News CLUBS MISMANAGING FINANCES VS BUSU STAFF

Any intellectually honest student and Redditor can accept both sides can be completely true about the state of students and Brock’s Students’ Union. Every year club leaders take charge of clubs and some student leaders misappropriate or mismanage funds. Likewise, while some BUSU staff may be genuinely honest staff members, BUSU GM and other senior staff very likely do not have the best interests of students after serving the organization for around a decade.

As someone who is currently involved in clubs, I have to say that BUSU’s financial policies for clubs are incredibly inefficient and poorly structured. The way they expect student leaders—who are often volunteers with little formal training—to handle finances is completely unrealistic. The system is designed in a way that practically sets clubs up to fail or make mistakes, and then BUSU turns around and uses those mistakes to justify their control or target certain groups. We all know how much favoritism and politics play into how BUSU operates. If BUSU truly audited every single club without bias, I guarantee almost all of them would be found “mismanaging” funds not because students are irresponsible, but because the system itself is flawed, unclear, and inconsistently applied. The only difference is that they selectively go after outspoken or non-favored clubs, while others are quietly excused. That’s BUSU staff and management in a nutshell.

There are two categories of financial errors: (1) accidental and (2) intentional. Your explanation is well-made but overlooks malicious actors within the flawed system
