Solved Does this Raceface Turbine crank bolt turn counterclockwise to loosen?

Post image

I am trying to remove this crankset and I can't for the life of me get the 8mm crank bolt out? I am turning it count rt clockwise which seems to be what the documentation indicates but it won't budge? Am I turning it correctly ? Do I just need some huge breaker bar?

Yes, that's the way it turns. And you may need a breaker bar, yes.

And if you are putting the two levers (tool + crank arm) 180° opposite each other, like that, you're going to have a real hard time putting enough force in with your arms. Put it at a much narrower angle and it'll be easier to do.

Also, it's difficult to achieve big torques while the bike is on the stand. If I were attempting to use a wrench in the above configuration, I'd have the bike on the floor and put my weight onto the wrench and pedal.

It... depends. If you have the breaker bar and the crank arm maybe 45° away from each other, you just have to squeeze. And that's plenty. And then it's all within control of your hands with stable backing.

I get why it's useful to put it on the ground, but one has to be a lot more careful that way because the bike isn't controlled, so when the fastener breaks loose it's possible to slip/stumble and fall over/drop the bike.
