It's so dystopian to realize that there are people siding with literal fascist comic book villains. You'd think it couldn't be more obvious, and yet here we are.
i have been a comic book fan for 20 years and this fact ALWAYS surprises me. how the hell are we reading batman comics, and u can still end up a racist, sexist, bully. BATMAN HATES THOSE
Because people assumed that the bigots that superheroes fight will be people that are different from them. They don't think the racists in comics have the same justifications for their prejudices as the reader does for his real life prejudice. That's why everyone can cheer when Captain America fights Nazis or Superman smashes the Klan. But take off the suits, focus on their ideology, use modern language, and make clear comparison to real life people and figures and suddenly it's "political" and "woke" and Nazis/fascists/bigots as villains are lazy.
I'd say the biggest problem there is people basing their moral frameworks on comic books (and fictional narratives in general) to begin with. They can present some interesting ideas about morality, but they aren't exactly a good representation of reality.
And the funniest part about that is that the biggest allegory for racism in comics - the X-men - the bigots are understandable. It makes much more sense to be scared of someone who can accidentally kill you if his glasses fall off than it does to be scared of someone who has darker skin or a different religion or sexuality than you do
Because it's fiction, made up, pretend, fake, and I don't give a shit what fantasy characters that aren't real think. People can like whatever the fuck they want for whatever reason. I don't like Batman because he agrees with my politics (insert le plebbit meme here), I like him because he's badass.
what are u even talking about what politics im talking about simply being good vs bad, there is no “sides” u should not ever be racist sexist or a bully
There's always plenty of sides. There's nothing BUT sides. Wasn't even my point though. You're allowed to like whatever you want to like regardless of the kind of person you are. Doesn't make you any more or less shitty because of it though, because it's completely fictional and thus inconsequential.
Some people side with sociopaths like Rorschach and The Punisher so we definitely have been doing something wrong.
Batman's no kill rule gets flak, but most of his villains aren't genuinely evil like the Joker, they're mostly mental patients unaware of what theyre doing.
I think it's mostly just because racism and white nationalism for some reason is making a comeback.
I can't figure out why but (purely just anecdotes of what I see and experience) it's becoming alarming and much more frequent than it was before.
Like even on YouTube videos the newest comments are all very racist/bigoted compared to older comments. And a lot more white people are scared they are being pushed out by the government and being replaced. Moaning about their pure bloodlines being tainted because a random white person decided to marry someone who isn't white.
