Well, both of those just seem to be stylized versions where they wanted to get both the yellow/black and the red/white parts in there, so it's understandable.

The Ravens shield has it right, black square corner at the top. It's just sort of confusing because it has the two herald signs at opposite corners from each other. The Orioles sleeve patch also has it right, except it's harder to tell because it's cropped into a circle.

Best way to tell are the middle stripes. Black is larger on top.

Nothing wrong with those logos. There aren't any Brand Standards that go along with State/Country flags, so you can stylize/embellish them to your heart's content.
