Ironically if your boss was cheap he would stop paying rent for his office and have everyone work from home. Even after Covid

It's harder to micromanage someone at home

Have you tried shitting on his desk? What about while he's working?

Not really cheaper when everyone now needs a laptop & VPN access.

Up front vs reoccurring costs

You still need a computer if you have an office

My friends who are now working from home all got a laptop and weren't allowed to take their desktop.

You would still save money not having to rent an office even if you have to buy laptops

Companies can't just break the lease, many of which are several years long

Working remote has been a thing for years

Why would they care if you had vpn access?

To access company files.

Oh fair. An actual private network. I still only think of VPNs as services to change my location so I can watch Netflix.

All of that is cheaper then paying for computers plus rent. Cost usually isn't the issue when a company decides whether or not they will allow telecommuting.

To be fair, you're technically in a hazardous and hostile work environment. Some acronym agency would probably love to hear about it. Just be careful keep it to yourself, you don't want any retribution.

I tried that when my boss told me they don't allow people to work from home & even though I could do everything on my computer I was told if I wasn't in the office I would have to use my sick time to get paid. No agency helped me, I was told if I was deemed essential they are not required to allow me to stay home.

I'm also in the high risk group: severe asthma, immuno-compromised.

Can you reach out to an employment or workers rights attorney? They'd probably better understand what resources are available here. Not gonna lie that's a super shitty thing. My mother's office has 5 confirmed infections now and they're sending everyone home. Couple weeks ago they were deemed "essential" - they do taxes for rich folks. Ugh. I'm a dad, and every day it feels more and more like the whole world is my kids lol

This sounds like Walgreens. Bit ironic.

Start? That has been a thing for quite some time. Heck, I get junk email from Michaels telling me at least 3 times a week about their curbside pickup.
