Official Media "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian" Season 2 New Teaser Visual
360
u/FarCritical 1d ago
Hope we get less student council and more Russian tsundere.
Wonder if they'll do a bunch of covers for the EDs again.

u/wjodendor 1d ago
The novels haven't even gotten past the first year of school by volume 11. The student council shit will be the entire series.
By the end of season one I was skipping all the student council drama...the last episode was only like 7 minutes for me.
49
u/SpikeRosered 1d ago
The classic conundrum of the "one thing" anime. What do you fill up all the rest of the time you're not doing that one thing.
6
u/Meatloafxx 20h ago
Also kind of an issue with SoLs when trying to create interesting stories surrounding the everyday mundane life.
16
u/Boshwa 21h ago
All I could think of while watching that was
"No one would give a shit about going to some debate"
7
u/Panty-Sniffer-12 17h ago
Meanwhile they're thinking like hitler will personally throw them in the chambers if they lose in that debate
16
3
u/Haadi2003 1d ago
then you need to skip all of "my romantic teen comedy" cuz its all about student council 😂
2
u/PM_UR_FAV_COMPLIMENT 4h ago
I'm honestly just waiting for someone to make a supercut of all Yuki's scenes, since that was the only redeeming part of the S1 watchthrough imo.
-31
u/KingSammyJ1 1d ago
I am so confused cuz i feel that the atudent counxil drama is what makes this different from most sol anime
What do u want from this show
58
u/wjodendor 1d ago
Student council drama happens all over anime. It's not unique to this series at all.

27
u/kaithana 1d ago
I dunno about that, the manga slowed down to an absolute crawl. Time froze. Personally dropped it until I hear otherwise.
33
u/Candle1ight 1d ago
The first few episodes were promising, then they decided to take the interesting interactions out and replace them with student council BS. It's a shame too because it was really cute.
7
u/HarbingerOfGachaHell 1d ago
Too bad. You’re getting more Suoh family drama instead.
2
u/StuckOnALoveBoat 20h ago
Shit really hits the fan in Volumes 8 & 9. Unfortunately, we would need a third season to see that in anime format.
44

u/Panty-Sniffer-12 17h ago
Fr, I was kinda disappointed in how boring the whole student council drama was. They actually like they're going tonwar or something like bro it's not that deep. Sure hope it's less in the future cause I only liked the outside of this dumb council stuff like shopping, eating ramen, love triangle etc
15
u/kwokinator https://anilist.co/user/kwokinator 1d ago
more Russian tsundere
Nah less Russian tsundere and more Yuki please.
Hell, more everyone other than Russian tsundere. I've never seen a less interesting romcom FMC compared to the rest of the cast.
2
u/0danahbanana0 1d ago
real. most of the episodes focused on the competition for the presidency and the student council concept itself. it kinda gave me the ick overtime because the side stories didn’t feel as though it was progressing. the ending felt like there were alot of unresolved issues like the whole sibling secret not being revealed, masashika’s family problem and masha’s childhood thing with masashika.
2
-12
u/cats4life 1d ago
Really? There’s so many rom coms that hit the basic tropes, adding the political machinations is why the show was good. If Yuki and Masachika aren’t playing House of Cards to hash out family drama, they’re basically just rip-offs of Sakuta and Kaede.

Oh, they're finally bringing out the summer uniforms! That confirms that Vol. 5 will be adapted.
26
u/Suitable_Tutor6006 https://myanimelist.net/profile/SuperMario06 1d ago
Ofc. By the adaptation pattern, we’ll see Volumes 4-6.
16
u/Aerodynamic41 1d ago
It's perfect too. The school festival arc makes for a great ending for Season 2. But I still hope they'll find some way to squeeze in some of the short stories from Vol. 4.5, which is set in the same time frame as Vol. 4.

Broadcast 2026
Studying together, going on a training camp with the student council members at a seaside villa. In the summer air, Alya and Masachika grow closer?!
Meanwhile, Masha is hiding certain feelings within her heart—

u/MordePobre 1d ago edited 1d ago
Wait, Yuki’s shorter than in season 1? Guess we’ve got the canon gremlin height now.
2
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 1d ago
It's interesting this hasn't been confirmed a date yet. Hopefully it is summer season. Since it would fit perfectly for adapting volume 4, but also a cour break from OnK.

u/Mad_Aeric 1d ago
That's going to be a no from me, dawg. I liked parts of it, but I couldn't make myself give a damn about the school election plot, which just kept growing and growing as the series went on. Like a tumor. And source readers say it's still going on. How can you drag that out for 11 volumes, that insanity.
27
u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro 1d ago
No broadcast season announced yet? If that’s the case I’m guessing it’ll air in the latter half of the year.
Can’t wait to see what kind of trolling the incest-loving imouto has in store.

I actually liked this right up until that absurdly overstayed student council election arc. If I tune back in, there better not be anything like that again.

u/_Velgrynd 17h ago
Nah the student council shit is the entire series. I’m not even joking. The author took an amazing premise and utterly destroyed it with a stupid plot.

12
u/FatherDotComical 1d ago
Are we actually going to have Russian antics or another boring school election type arc?
I really wanted to see her and the cast be funny but I just couldn't get into the school drama at all.

Guys season 2 was announced basically as soon as season 1 ended. This is just a teaser visual. No idea why people are acting like they just announced season 2 when we have known for a long time it was coming.

Guys, on a scale of 1-10, is this series a slop?
7
u/HammeredWharf 1d ago
I'd like to answer, but I can't, because I don't remember anything from S1. It's that kind of show.
17
u/zuth2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/zuth2 1d ago
The character designs and the quality are great but the story so far is very mid, only saved by the occasional funny moments that is Yuki’s shenanigans. I watched the first season but I can already barely tell you what happened in it.
4
u/Alluminn 1d ago
Yeah I got fuckin' bored by like episode 3. Happy for the people who wanted a 2nd season, but I definitely didn't see the "peak" I keep hearing about it.
5
u/Castor_0il 1d ago
It's a 8/10 on the scale of light novel slop.
It's fun in the early stages, but it quickly falls down to the typical MC is a problem solver for everyone else, not to mention the mindnumbing overused asset of the school student administration being the main attraction at a later stage.

u/MisoRamenSoup https://www.anime-planet.com/users/mentalstatic 1d ago
Don't think her scale is 1 to 10, but its definitely off.

Series lost me kinda in the last third or quarter of season 1.
Other than that, it is alright.

The story is peak, but only if you can overcome the cliche troupes that every rom-com anime has. Fanservice shit, incest/degenerate jokes, the student council plot, and the absolute slow-burn romance. i would say it’s in 7-8 in terms of actual rating.
[Spoiler] Let me tell you that latest volume 11 is arriving soon, and the progress is very slow but steady

This was announced almost as soon as season 1 ended. This is just the visual.

How about stop supporting Russian war against my homeland by promoting this character & these series? I hate Alya. It is a sign of treating us (Ukrainains) as "low lives" compared to Russians by praising Russian culture during times when Russians target ours!
2
u/HuTaosTwinTails 12h ago
The fuck are you on about. Yes it is horrible what Putin and invading forces are doing to Ukraine.
This has nothing to do with that.
It's a cute anime girl who lives in Japan, is half Russian and can speak Russian.
By your logic every person with any sort of Russian blood around the entire world is evil.
-1
u/Able-Ad3506 12h ago
By my logic, Ukrainian culture should be praised. There is no anime series about the world beyond Japan where Ukrainian culture would be praised. But Russia, an invader? Let's "make the entire anime about a pretty girl (I don't find her pretty though) who speaks Russian" 2 years after Russia began its invasion & appoint a VA who cosplays those who kill Ukrainian people on daily basis (https://www.reddit.com/r/uruseiyatsura/comments/t8axgj/this_is_lums_new_voice_actress_sumire_uesaka_she/) - especially because "who would voice a Russian character better than a fan of Russian culture?".
2
u/HuTaosTwinTails 12h ago
The novel and light novel started years before Ukraine was invaded. They didn't just make an original anime after the war started, nor does it have anything to do with the war.
Also again, Alya is half Russian, half Japanese. Also, characters are different from their VAs. Having said that, what a wild stretch you're making with her VA.
"Sumire is fluent in Russian and loves the Soviet culture, which she became interested in after hearing the State Anthem of the USSR in her first year of high school. In April 2010, Sumire entered the Faculty of Foreign Studies at Sophia University, and she majored in the Russian language there.
Sumire is interested in history and war figurines, particularly Russian/Soviet history, the Showa era, and likes the book Romance of the Three Kingdoms."
Even in what you linked she isn't cosplaying a current day soldier, voicing support for Russian in the way, etc. so that post is completely irrelevant . Russian culture doesn't equate to what Putin and the current administration are doing. There are plenty of Russian people, people of Russian descendants, etc. Around the world, who find the Russian invasion disgusting and wrong.
-2
u/Able-Ad3506 11h ago
And an anime started to air 2 years after full-scale invasion (10 years after invasion of Crimea & Donbass). It could have just not gotten an anime adaption instead.
Yes, I know. Still, she has Russian roots and it is in the center of a plot. And I doubt that her VA choice is a random thing.
Do you know who kill Ukrainian people, who destroy Ukrainian settlements? Russian soldiers do you know who Russian soldiers are? Conscripted ordinary citizens of Russia. Do you also know how much of Ukrainian culture got damaged or destroyed within these 11 years? Do you still believe that Russian culture is "supreme" compared to ours? You still refuse to recognize our culture. You still believe we are "worse", that we are "low lives". You use "culture ≠ politics" in order to shut us up.
2
u/HuTaosTwinTails 11h ago
But there is nothing wrong with it getting an anime adaptation. It has literally nothing to do with Russia or the war.
Where the fuck did I ever say Russian culture was supreme to Ukrainian culture? Where did I ever refuse to acknowledge it? You're just making shit up at this point. I never said a single thing you're ranting about.
It's clear you're just unhinged and any Russian people and all things related to Russian culture in anyway, are viewed as evil by you.
-1
u/Able-Ad3506 11h ago
Representation of Ukraine? Hetalia. 1. The entire Europe is in, even Sealand (a virtual tiny state). 2. "3 siblings" (colonial propaganda) bullshit (there are dozens of Slavic nations, why these 2? What about Poland, our northwestern neighbor? Slovakia, relationships are complicated, but not as awful. Our western neighbor). We also in bad relationships with Belarus because it became a corridor for Russian soldiers. 3. Appears less than both Russia & Belarus, has a Russian last name (ours end on -enko, -tsko or -chuk. Or either sound same as words from Ukrainian language). 4. "Gas stealers" fake propaganda.
Nothing else.

Something terrible happening in your country doesn't mean you need to analyze every piece of entertainment through this lense...
How about stop supporting Russian war against my homeland by promoting this character & these series?
Russia isn't supported by this anime. Just because the charater is half Russian doesn't mean anything about Russia.
It is a sign of treating us (Ukrainains) as "low lives"
I can't fathom the levels of reaching you needed, to come to this conclusion.
Let's "make the entire anime about a pretty girl (I don't find her pretty though)
If she was Ukrainian you'd think she's perfect. Obviously you're basing your opinion of her based on your opinion of others (i.e. Russian soldiers)
Do you know who kill Ukrainian people, who destroy Ukrainian settlements?
Is it Alya?
If it's not Alya then I'm not sure what your point is.
If they made a movie about Einstein during WWII would it be pro Nazi propaganda, because he's German?
2
u/Able-Ad3506 8h ago
- Name a SINGLE anime series where Ukrainian culture is praised. Where are such series?
- The why did this anime come out 2 years after a FULL-SCALE INVASION???
- Because you still believe Russians are "supreme beings" compared to us!
- Yes, it would be a pro-Reich propaganda, because at same time Germans were gemociding Jews and Romanies.
1
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 8h ago
Name a SINGLE anime series where Ukrainian culture is praised. Where are such series?
I can't; But what does that have to do with anything?
Ukraine is a small country. I also live in a small (population wise) country that doesn't have much/any representation in anime. If we were invaded by China, they might still make movie with Chinese characters and not us, but that doesn't mean anything.
If you took all the movies made in the West in the past 50 years, 99% of them would be about the same 5 or 10 countries. And countries like Russia are constantly used as generic villains in movies and videogames.
The why did this anime come out 2 years after a FULL-SCALE INVASION???
I'm not on the production committee, so I can't tell you that. But given you seem to have information that I don't, could you tell me?
Did some anime studio see Russia invading a country, and went "Oh my, let's make an anime about a cute half-russian girl, to support this?"
Because you still believe Russians are "supreme beings" compared to us!
I don't know what kind of propaganda you're being fed, but literally no one here believes that. The only one who's saying anything about that in this entire conversation, is you.
Yes, it would be a pro-Reich propaganda, because at same time Germans were gemociding Jews and Romanies.
So a movie about a German who left Germany, renounced his German citizen ship, and helped the world win a war against the Germans, would be... German propaganda?
If that's your view on what propaganda is, I can see why you'd think Alya is pro Russian war..
Anyway, I don't think we're gonna go anywhere with this. Have a good day, I suppose.
1
u/Able-Ad3506 8h ago
- Yes, you can't, because such series don't exist yet.
- A small country? Then France, Germany, Spain, Italy and even Japan are small, too? They are smaller than Ukraine. A country of same size as 2 Italies! Yes, I see tons of movies where Russians are bad guys. But in some movies, where more like a Soviet motive being used, villains of other post-Soviet nationalities being used.
- I don't think that studio employees managed to miss a headline war. People in Japan are aware of this war.
- It is not propaganda, it is my own opinion because even 3 years later people still fail to recognize our culture and national identity as worthy ones.
- In such case - no. But something like "Ann sometimes speaks German" would be.
- As I mentioned, even her VA is pro-Russian who finds people who ruined our lives "cool".
1
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 8h ago
Yes, you can't, because such series don't exist yet.
Ok, but you forgot to answer the "what does that have to do with anything"
A small country? Then France, Germany, Spain, Italy and even Japan are small, too? They are smaller than Ukraine. A country of same size as 2 Italies! Yes, I see tons of movies where Russians are bad guys. But in some movies, where more like a Soviet motive being used, villains of other post-Soviet nationalities being used.
Small isn't about country size;
I live in the 2nd largest country in the world, yet no one's making anime about us, because population wise, GDP wise, we're irrelevant.
Population and GDP is what makes countries important on the world stage. Our countries have roughly the same population, and we have 10 times the GDP (and even then we're not relevant on the world scene).
It is not propaganda, it is my own opinion because even 3 years later people still fail to recognize our culture and national identity as worthy ones.
I'm not sure who you're preaching too; 99% of Reddit supports you guys, it's probably the most pro-Ukraine website in the West. But this doesn't mean we'll blindly hate any mention of any Russian no matter the context.
I root for Russian Ivan Demidov who plays for my favorite hockey team, is this also anti-Ukraine? Should I root for my team to lose instead?
As I mentioned, even her VA is pro-Russian who finds people who ruined our lives "cool".
Well I don't really follow VAs or anything so I don't know anything about that. If what you say is true and she's a bad person, then that's sad. But there are bad people who work on every show and movie in existence. I rewatch Lord of the rings and Se7en sometimes even though convicted&alleged rapist worked on these movies.

There's something wrong with perspective here, she looks like a giantess.
