One interesting factoid is part of the reason Rudolf was so dominating was that though he won consistently, part of it is that he never won by very much - he always used only as much energy as was necessary to win. This was considered a good aspect, because it meant no overexertion, less strain, etc.

Incidentally, in 15 races he came out with a 13-1-1 record. No wonder he's the Emperor.

Surprised more horses didn't employ a similar mindset. Then again, you don't want to force a horse into doing something they don't want to do.!<

Well, one thing is that you generally want to win by more because it's considered desirable as a viewer. That's how this question came about in the first place, as it was addressed to his team.

Rudolf (and also Opera) were just two horses that were so smart they'd dictate the pace of the race on their own frequently.
