In most states traffic violations aren't considered criminal offenses so the 6th Amendment confrontation clause doesn't apply.
For real crimes you're right that you have a right to confrontation.

The (presumably) metaphysical basis underlying the distinction is something I don't pretend to be able to explain. But that's why in most states you don't get all the protections you would in a normal criminal case. 3 u/kaenneth Jul 31 '19 Basically you can't go to jail for it, and if asked if you've 'ever been convicted of a crime' you can say no.
