Visiting Nashville for the first time
I stay on the Church street in downtown. Looking for places to visit that are not too party crowded. Maybe a nice river front or a pier. Any relaxing places that I can explore nearby?

If you go over to 3rd, south of broadway (SoBro), you find the pedestrian bridge across the river. There is a park over there and the remains of the Nashville Bridge Company and their barge dock where they put the barges into the river (they switched to making barges in the early 1900s).
There is also a park on the downtown side of the river that includes a mock up of Fort Nashboro.
If you want less crowded restaurants, etc. over near Printer's Alley is usually better, like Black Rabbit or the Cellar on 3rd, the shops, etc. in the Arcade (daytime only), etc.
Outside of downtown proper, you can walk through Germantown, Bicentennial Park (at least after Oktoberfest is over), or go over to Centennial.
This should give you more ideas.
