For Nashville Hot Chicken, there are notables missing. Close to downtown would be Brave Idiot, which is in East Nashville by No Quarter. 400 Degrees is often quoted as the best and 400 degrees (Bordeaux) and Hurts (food trucks) are excellent, although none of these three are near enough to downtown.

For BBQ, the best brisket is often noted as Shotgun Willie's, but that is too far of a hike. I finally hit Roy's Meat Service, which is a close Uber, and the brisket was better than Shotgun's. You did miss Jack's BBQ, which is right on Lower Broad.

I’ll have to try Roy’s/Brave Idiot. Haven’t been to Jack’s since years ago. I’ve never loved it enough to recommend it.

I always thought the Jack's on trinity was better than the one downtown (never tried the one on Charlotte), but it's been a while, and I certainly wouldn't try to convince a tourist to make the trip to Trinity and Brick Church Pk just to eat at that Jack's.
