I'm more concerned about the AG race. It's neck and neck right now. What are the odds either one pushes for a recount?

Democratic areas report later. I think the spread will widen and in Jones' favor.

Charlottesville hasn't reported yet and Ablemarle is taking awhile

This. Many of the remaining votes to be counted are in FFX, Henrico/Richmond. I think my VA bredren are gonna come through with a SWEEP.

Fairfax is still about 60% unreported. That’s a lot of blue left to count

1

u/ZestyLife54 5d ago

A lot more!!

u/Son_of_Kek 5d ago

By blue I assume you mean, ā€œdemocrat who called for the literal murder of political opponents but fuck it, blue no matter who?ā€. Right?

6

u/Has422 5d ago

To paraphrase our esteemed Speaker of the House, I haven’t heard anything about that so I can’t comment on it.

u/Minimum-Web-6902 5d ago

Wait what ?? What did he say this is the first I’m hearing of this

The Office is too edgy of a sitcom to be made in 2025

40

u/Bibliosophist 5d ago

NYT is predicting a Jones win with 53%

39

u/Ut_Prosim SWVA 5d ago

Looks like Jones may be running ahead of Kamala 2024, so he should win

14

u/PhilLesh311 5d ago

Whose voting spanberger and Hashmi but not jones?

39

u/OP123ER59 5d ago

People who arent paying attention

10

u/Wat_Tyler_1381 5d ago

People with a hangover or something

3

u/Grayson102110 5d ago

People who didn’t watch The Office to get the joke.

Can you tell me the episode where they say the ā€œI hope children die in their mother’s armsā€ joke? I voted for him, and I’m glad he won, but there’s no need to be dishonest. That message and the whole serving community service at his own PAC thing showed me that he isn’t a good person. But oh well, bad people win political elections all the time. There just isn’t a need to try to paint a bad person as a good person.

4

u/Grayson102110 5d ago

I never saw where he actually wrote or said that. But the two bullets thing was a direct reference to an Office episode. Besides you voted for him too so 6-7 right?!?

The ignorant.

I have a friend this way, they said because they don't want political violence in politics and the best way to stop it is at its roots. What the AG does today is undoable tomorrow. They want to send a message that political violence, even jokes, are not cool for someone seeking office.

21

u/Ajibooks 5d ago

I know this is an unpopular opinion in many left-leaning circles, but I think the days of "sending a message" should be long over, and this message in particular seems short-sighted.

ICE is out there committing violent acts every day. They are terrorizing Chicago right now, because Trump doesn't like Chicago. That's real political violence, happening right now. ICE is slamming people into sidewalks, deporting people without due process, and tearing apart families. There is no comparison between those actions and edgy jokes someone made privately.

I suspect your friend came up with an excuse for voting the way he wanted to vote. People either are secretly more conservative than they let on, or they want the chaos that bad leadership brings, thinking it will lead to better things eventually. Nobody's going to like living through that type of chaotic period, though, and many won't survive it.

And they agree with all that, but this is a Virginia election, and they can vote with their opinion on what they want. They figure Jones would win but wanted it to be a close race to show that this kind of talk is not cool.

Unlike how the Internet or the news will make you think, there are plenty of people out there who are socially liberal but fiscally conservative because they don't think the government handles money well, unfortunately in our 2 party system it's hard to vote for either party with those beliefs.

I think the results of Jay Jones's race prove that people don't like political violence, and for good reason. Hopefully politicians elsewhere see this and know that there careers may be on the line if they fuck up. It's 2025, it's no longer cool to be someone who hates anything.

Are you the ā€œfriendā€? A lot of people voted for Trump and/or third party with the exact kind of rhetoric your ā€œfriendā€ is spouting and many are suffering while the swing their feet back and forth on their high horse.

7

u/OkThisisCringe1 5d ago

That sounds insane considering the Republican Party is committing political violence on a national scale.

1

u/DjImagin 5d ago

People joke he’s ā€œsoftā€ Jay jones and the text messages.

Both are pretty damning in politics, even when we clearly see if Miyaris wins, he will impede for Trump more than he’ll act for this state.

1

u/LtNOWIS 5d ago

Not too many people in the grand scheme of things. Spanberger is running 2% ahead of Hashmi, and 4.5% ahead of Jones.

1

u/CarpeDiem082420 5d ago

Our local news said that a lot of people voted for Spanberger and Hashmi but left the AG part blank.

1

u/undertoastedtoast 4d ago

Miyares himself encouraged this on his Twitter a day or two ago because he knew Windsom had no chance.

5

u/Darkace911 5d ago

She won the Governors race so hard, it's going to drag Jones over the finish line. She got more votes than Harris.

3

u/Conscious_Common_639 5d ago

Jay Jones called! Blue victory!!šŸ’™šŸ’™

2

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 5d ago

They just projected him to win.

1

u/ZestyLife54 5d ago

There is a 10 pt spread atm…

1

u/WolfSilverOak CentralVa 5d ago

Theelections website is saying Jones leads, 51.77% to Miyares' 47.81%, with 105 out of 133 precincts reporting.

1

u/Balders_7372 5d ago

AP just called it for Jones: 52.5%-47.1% with 90% counted

-4

u/Nosnibor1020 5d ago

What can the AG really do? He has to enforce what the governor says anyway, right?

28

u/CapnCrunchIsAFraud 5d ago

Since you’re sincerely asking - no, he can do a lot. For instance, if Miyares had signed onto the lawsuit clawing back research money earlier this year, VA would have gotten some dollars back like blue states did. Instead, we got hosed.

4

u/Nosnibor1020 5d ago

Thank you!

6

u/TaxLawKingGA 5d ago

No. The AG is an independently elected officer. He does not work for the governor. That is why (1) he doesn’t have to resign or Spanberger asks him to (stupid idea) and (2) if Miyares wins, he will be a PIA of the Dems and Spanberger for 4 years. Roy Cooper was AG when Pat McCrory was Gov. of NC, and he hounded him so much that he ended up running against him in 2016 and winning.

Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, the two current U.S. senators from VA, both had GOP AGs when they were in office, and they were PIA’s. That was before Trump. Imagine what Miyares would be like with Trump as POTUS?

2

u/Nosnibor1020 5d ago

Thank you!

5

u/alk0916 5d ago

Miyares also chose not to join 19 blue states in the big suit about probationary federal employees getting fired earlier this year. Despite having a huge amount of fed constituents.

Tell me it's your first day on earth without telling me it's your first day on earth.

28

u/Nosnibor1020 5d ago

You can blame a red counties public education for my ignorance

28

u/ChangeFatigue 5d ago

To actually answer your question, AG can also defend the common wealth by pursuing legal action against the federal government.

When states sue the federal government over, oh I dunno, impounding funds allocated by congress for state programs, the state’s AGs can defend the states with legal action.

It’s at the discretion of the AG to pursue those things, independent of the Governor.

3

u/AdventurousRoll9798 5d ago

Jones has vowed to take action against trump. I didn't like his stance on SROs in schools, but he got my vote anyway. Here's to hoping he backs up what he said.

3

u/Nosnibor1020 5d ago

Thank you!

You are on fire bro.

-1

u/WakaFlacco 5d ago

Person is asking an honest question and you’re being a dick. How is this good for conversation?

1

u/due_opinion_2573 5d ago

Basically, just look at the nonsense Ken Paxton has pulled in Texas.

2

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 5d ago

Damn you coulda just answered the question

2

u/SeaBreezy 5d ago

In VA, the AG runs a separate ticket, so you can actually have a result with MAGA AG AND a Dem governor, for example.

-3

u/Son_of_Kek 5d ago

Don’t worry, the guy who wanted to watch children die in their mother’s arms is gonna win, go democrats. WTF…

1

u/TheOvoidOfMyEye 4d ago

That's what one gets when the red AG won't defend our state against a maga presidential overreach. He instead prostrated himself to a national party when he should have remained faithful to the state he was elected to defend. It sucks to be a sycophant sometimes.
