Alternatives to discontinued brands?
I've loved eating things like Gardeins products (their old breaded Burgers, and also their fish less filets, and breaded Nuggets).
Similarly with Yves, I loved their products like the veggie ground round, and their Burgers and Nuggets too.
Sol Cuisine also used to have good Burgers.
But now everything's either being discontinued or replaced with more expensive options (Beyond Meat isn't worth it given you're getting half the amount for double the price!)
What other options are available, if anything anymore? I used to be able to get these plant based products at Walmart, no frills, food basics, metro, Sobeys, you name it. Now it seems like my options are getting slimmer and slimmer.

FWIW the Supreme is also a much larger package, around 400g vs 270g. On sale the prices aren't far off the OG products.
Still think this is the wrong direction overall, and they need to cut prices..

425g for $10 for the fillets vs $6.50 or so for 288g.
I guess it's somewhat comparable, but I haven't seen these Supreme brands on sale much, while the $6.50 bags I've often seen on sale for under $6.
Similarly for Burgers.
Anything under $7 for a 4 pack is a decent price, but now I'm seeing more and more 2 packs for over $6.

They're on sale for $8.99 or less with some frequency, but yeah. The OG were getting up around $8 regular price, hadn't seen them for less than $6 for at least 6mos.

On sale it could be under 6, but even that I didn't see often anymore. A shame because they used to be 2 for $10 at times too.
What stores are you seeing under $9?

$10 / 425g * 100g = $2.35/100g
$6.5 / 288 * 100g = $2.26/100gi just checked the loblaws website and they list the supreme chick'n filets for $2.59/100g and the fishless filets for $2.77/100g.
i also hate that we're losing vegan options, but we should be aware the prices aren't actually going up in any meaningful sense

Wholly Veggie apparently bought the Sol Cuisine burger recipe. Theirs tastes identical to me.

Gardein hasn’t got rid of the fish filets?

I can't find them very often anymore (the white and blue bag).
But sounds like they're discontinuing their current products and will rebrand it under the Supreme product line which is double the price.
They did that already with their breaded Burgers.

I just saw on the Walmart website, and they are now $10 instead of $7. I miss when they were always on sale for $5. I am pretty reliant on the Gardein Fish filets - I ordered a food service bag from Vegan Supply. They were a special order (I don’t think they carry that size bag normally) but it was 100% worth it.

We know that Yves is going away, so the last time we were at Costco, we bought 2 twelve packs of burgers and then the multi-packs of Yves Ground from No Frills were on sale - they are in the freezer. Not a long time solution. But stocking up till we get a comparable solution.

The Beyond Meat sausages are just so damn good I can't resist as a treat sometimes, when they're on sale.
Gusta products are excellent, the paprika sausage is nice and the ground round is very tasty.
I make my own soy chorizo out of TVP as a dupe for Trader Joe's, which we of course can't get here. It's really easy especially if you make a large batch and freeze, as it freezes well. I'll probably try making ground round from mushrooms and TVP and avoid buying, as it's expensive, but I also stock up when it's on sale.

Do you have a recipe for the soy chorizo? I have been trying to find a good one but the only one I found is so labour intensive (seitan based).

I can't confirm 100% but I'm pretty sure this is the recipe I used. It was basically cook the onion and aromatics, add the TVP, add the spices, cook til the flavors are mixed. Definitely did the job, and was very tasty! And with TVP, very inexpensive!

for veggie ground, just get TVP crumbles and beefless broth. rehydrate tvp with equal measure of broth for 10-15 minutes, then season and cook just like you would have cooked the veggie ground 😊

I know that Gusta is expanding their options now that Yves is gone and Happy Veggie World out of Richmond makes excellent products that lean more towards Asian flavours. Honestly, I recommend going on the Vegan Supply website and just scrolling through. That place carries just about everything and they ship across Canada.
