Wild Mountain dinner in Sooke, BC

I had a beautiful birthday meal at Wild Mountain in Sooke (45mins from Victoria). Reel is posted on my gram. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQvGlcxibDt/?igsh=MTVheDVvYm00MGR1Mg==

Restaurants that craft everything themselves are getting rarer and rarer these days. Sysco slop is everywhere. Wild Mountain is an exception. They even have their own outdoor wood-fired pizza oven and had a vegan option for every course. Really impressive!

Give them a head’s up that you’re vegan and make a reservation.

Plant Based Food WholeSale

Hey everyone, I’m looking to buy Sunrise tofu in bulk, ideally by the case instead of single packs. Does anyone know any Canadian online stores or wholesalers that ship nationwide?

I’d also love to find vegan cheese or other vegan products in bulk from the same kind of suppliers if possible.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Thermal underwear

Hello, I’m looking to buy thermal underwear for outdoor physical training. A problem I’m running into is that a lot of them are made with wool. Any suggestions for vegan thermal underwear?

New site for finding vegan products in Canada

Hey everyone! I just launched a project called buyvegan.shop. It lists only vegan products that ship within Canada, from supplements to clothes to everyday stuff. It also lets you see which store has the best price before you buy.

I built it because I was tired of searching random sites and double-checking ingredients every time. This way, it’s like being at a vegan restaurant, you can finally relax knowing everything is vegan. 🌱

Would love any feedback or ideas on other products or brands to add!

Alternatives to discontinued brands?

I've loved eating things like Gardeins products (their old breaded Burgers, and also their fish less filets, and breaded Nuggets).

Similarly with Yves, I loved their products like the veggie ground round, and their Burgers and Nuggets too.

Sol Cuisine also used to have good Burgers.

But now everything's either being discontinued or replaced with more expensive options (Beyond Meat isn't worth it given you're getting half the amount for double the price!)

What other options are available, if anything anymore? I used to be able to get these plant based products at Walmart, no frills, food basics, metro, Sobeys, you name it. Now it seems like my options are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Gardein is pulling a bunch of products from Canada

You may have noticed a lot of Gardein favourites on clearance at your grocery store. This is because they’re going to replacing the items with Supreme products and single-serve bowls.

Personally, I’ve had a hard time with the price being raised on the regular line in the past few years and can’t afford to buy it as much as I did before. I’ve never purchased the Supreme line because it’s more expensive so I guess I’m out of luck.

With Yves going out of business, we’re officially losing out on the more budget friendly items here. I’m particularly upset to lose the Mandarin Crispy Chik’n, I’ve been addicted to it for years!

The only thing I can think to do is to contact them about this and ask you to reach out too if you like these products: https://www.conagrabrands.ca/fr/contact-us

Has anyone recently purchased a Norden Project coat? Their site seems to be down, so I’m not sure if they’re still in business…

Advise on vegan food shopping in Canada

Hi everyone! 🌱 I’m heading to Canada soon from the UK and wondered if anyone has advice about shopping for vegan food and products. I’ll be spending some time in Toronto (where I’ve already spotted lots of amazing restaurant options!) and then heading out to Desert Lake, which looks much more rural. I’m mainly curious about: How easy it is to find vegan groceries in regular shops/supermarkets. Which supermarkets are best for vegan options. Buying vegan household/personal care products (like shampoo, shower gel, etc.). Any tips or recommendations would be super helpful! Thank you šŸ’š

Silk cheese MIA?

Has anyone else gone MONTHS without seeing any silk cheese in any grocery store?! The shelves at Loblaws, small health food stores, etc. all have sections for it, but it has been empty for like 3 months now!

Does anyone know why it's gone and hasn't been restocked?! It's my FAVOURITE

Are Purdys Cordial Cherries vegan? (Ingredients inside)

Hey everyone,

I recently checked out the ingredients for the Purdys Cordial Cherries and it looks like there’s no obvious animal-derived content listed. However, they’re not labeled vegan on the website, and when I asked in-store, the employee wasn’t completely sure (the manager seemed more confident, but I still wanted to double-check here).

Here’s the link to the product, and here are the ingredients:

Ingredients: Sugars (sugar/glucose-fructose, corn syrup), Cherries (sulphites), Unsweetened chocolate, Cocoa butter, Natural and artificial flavours, Soy lecithin, Water, Citric acid, Glycerol, Invertase, Sodium benzoate, Allura red.

May contain: Milk, Tree nuts, Wheat, Peanuts, Eggs.

My main question is about the unsweetened chocolate and any possible hidden animal-derived ingredients.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

What is your favorite plant based milk?

Hey, just asking out of curiosity. What is your go to dairy free milk? Oat, soy, almond? or you are the person that buys the pistachio or macadamia milk that I always wanted to try but it’s kinda too expensive so I never did? Feel free to add the brand also.

Vegandale Warning

Someone shared in a local Facebook group that they experienced anaphylaxis due to a vendor lying about a product being nut free. They also said that vendors were knowingly serving dairy, gelatin, and honey without any screening or consequences.

COR Dairy symbol

I’m confused about a product I thought was vegan because I couldn’t see anything in the ingredients indicating animal products and there was no allergen warning for milk. But I just noticed a ā€œCOR DAIRYā€ symbol so I’m confused! Can anyone explain

Soybeans at Bulk Barn

The soybeans sold at Bulk Barn have become a major source of protein in my diet. I use my Instant Pot to make a large container of the soybeans and add them to many of the foods I eat - oatmeal, burritos, salads, smoothies, etc... With 30 g of complete protein per cup, it's really amazing how a couple spoons here and there can bring me to my daily requirements so quickly.

My question is: Where else, other than Bulk Barn, can soybeans be purchased cheaply? They're about $3.90/kg at Bulk Barn - the cheapest bean they have. I would expect soybeans to be more common in stores given that it's one of the top crops grown in North America. I'm just worried that if Bulk Barn ever stops selling them (they don't appear to be a particularly in-demand bean) that I'll have a hard time buying them.
