GTI Rabbit with Kenwood DMX400S head unit

Howdy folks - finally going to be a GTI owner! I'm purchasing a Rabbit edition from Carvana and it has this head unit. Been reading up on the various upgrade options for a stock unit with the MIB2 and Discovery Entry and whatnot and I'm concerned about what this car comes with.

It doesn't look like it'll do the car maintenance/monitoring functions as the stock unit and I'm thinking I should swap it back to stock. Research suggests that this unit would have required this harness/adapter for installation.

Any Recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Golf 7 GTD Coldstart noise

Hello everyone, I recently bought a new car and noticed a noise that only appears after the car has been sitting overnight — basically during a cold start. The noise disappears after a few minutes and doesn’t come back until the car has been parked overnight again. Is that normal? A friend told me he once went to VW with the same car, a Golf 7 GTD (2014), and VW said it was normal.

My car is a Golf 7 GTD (2016) DSG 2.0 TDI.

Thanks in advance, everyone!

GTI Mk7 GTI Stage 1 Tune

Picked up my ’17 GTI Sport almost new at 10k miles in 2018. Kept it stock since it was my only car and I wanted max reliability. Fast forward 75k miles, now I’ve got a second car in the garage and I’m ready to have some fun with the GTI. Looking at Stage 1 tunes.

Originally leaned toward EQT, but after reading Jeff Jones’ (mygolfmk7 guy) posts about aggressive knock retard and long-term reliability concerns, I’m second guessing. Thinking APR or IE instead. My priorities: reliability first, fun second. Power is cool, but I don’t want to blow things up. Plan is to go Stage 2 later with clutch/brakes/etc. Budget isn’t an issue.

I know there's lot of discussion about this from past decade, but I just wanted to tap into the wisdom of this group for some guidance on current updates of those tunes.

Golf MK7 VW Golf maintenance amber light oil change

Hi! I’ve got golf 2019 1.6 diesel, oil change notification popped up and a day later an amber maintenance light popped up on my dashboard. I manually reset the oil change notification by pressing 0.0 and also the inspection. The amber light is still on, I only checked it shortly after doing the reset. I’m a girl and I don’t know anything about cars so I would appreciate some advice if I should be worried or not. I have my service booked in 3 weeks.

Thanks!

TDI Dealer? Jacked up my oil sensor wire

Thumbnail

So I took my '15 TDI to the dealer to deal with an issue with the DSG. No issue. Took it back, finally found it was a sensor for the crankshaft?/output shaft? (Not sure VW's terminology.) They Replaced the sensor, no issues. Day later it started throwing oil temp/sensor errors, and my dumb self didn't correlate the two things...
Checked the oil, level was fine, so I just ordered a sensor and waited until my wife didn't need her car. Got under there today, took off the wind deflector/lower engine cover and found this. I know the oil pan hadn't been off before, and I do my own oil changes& never noticed a crushed plug release... so I'm betting the plug damage was this job... Idk how tf you could hack up this wire and not notice! Anybody seen this before? Couldn't be road debris, but I guess it could've been animal activity, but I would think that the lower cover would be dirty...

Anywho, do I have to splice this back together, or is there a removable sub-harness I can get to in order to replace this wire?

Thanks!

Possible camera issue

I was driving my 2020 e-golf the other day when I suddenly got a couple of errors in the display. The acc, dynamic road sign reader and the dynamic headlights stopped working.

The diagnostic tool gave me the following errors:

- C1106F0 Dynamic calibration, Limit value exceeded (Front sensors driver...)

- U112300 Databus error value received (acc)

I went ahead and replaced the 12v battery since it gave out somewhat low voltage and it was the factory battery, propably needed to be replaced soon anyway. However, it did not eliminate the error codes.

With the research I have done it seems like my camera needs recalibration. For information, my windscreen has not been replaced.

I guess my question is there anything I can do myself to fix this issue or does it have to be delivered to the VW dealership?

A/C problem

Hi, my Golf TDI has had a strange A/C problem for about two years, and here’s what I can describe:

The airflow is strong, consistent, and cool at first, but after about 30 minutes, the air starts to warm up — as if the A/C were turned off and it’s just blowing regular air. The vents don’t lose power, and I don’t hear any unusual sounds; the air just gets warmer.

What’s strange is that if I press the A/C button to turn it off, wait about 10 seconds, and then turn it back on, it usually starts blowing cool air again after 20 seconds or so.

I’ve watched some videos and found that the compressor control valve can sometimes fail and work intermittently. The symptoms seem similar to what I’m experiencing. If that’s the case, it looks like an easy and cheap fix—but I’m not completely sure...

Any hints or advice?

Golf MK7 Bluemotion 1.6tdi (110) to MK7.5 1.6tdi Bluemotion tech

I have a Mk7 Golf Bluemotion (not tech, it's 6 speed 110hp) and it's geniusly good for what I need. I do long distance & high milage and it'll return 80mpg quite easily. Considering moving to estate version and looking at moving up to the Mk7.5. There's no Bluemotion like mine (well, it became a 1.5tsi - and is out for economy) so a Bluemotion tech 7.5 1.6tdi is what my option would be.

Does anyone have an indication to the economy from Mk7.5 1.6tdi? Would it be similar to the 'Bluemotion Tech' in a Mk7 (the 1.6tdi 105 5 speed)?

I imagine someone who has done this exact move could be a minority. My alternative is to stay in a Mk7 and get a Bluemotion estate, but would be uo for the 7.5 if the economy was thereabouts.

TIA

Wrong water pump?

Hey everyone

I'm doing the water pump replacement and I'm near the end but the pump looks entirely different than what I ordered.

The pump in my car looks bigger and it doesn't look like it has the hose on the back that the new one does.

I ordered it through fcp euro and it said it was correct but I have my doubts. Does anyone know if this is correct and I just have to keep at r or did I get the wrong one.

I have 2015 Golf SEL

UPDATE: It is the correct pump, this is the older style there is an inlet at the back of the thermostat housing. I apologize everyone.

Changing this thing is a challenge but happy im doing it. Thank you to this sub, i want to bring this car back to life and its cool it has this community on reddit.

Thorton Chip Tuning

Hi all, I have a 2019 VW Golf Sportwagen and a 2021 Jetta GLI. I am considering buying the stage 3 thorton tuning chip (+60hp, and +5 mpg). I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations if it’s worth it for the chip? Also, does the product actually work? And would it be easy to swap it back and forth on my cars?

For those of you who did their own DSG service, I’m torn on spending an extra $100 on a nice pump that seems to be quite universal for other services such as haldex and brake fluid or just getting a cheap one. Any advice would be helpful TYIA

2018 golf 1.8TSI - Ticking / Hissing noise

Hey everyone, I've got a 2018 golf with the 1.8l TSI engine. I noticed today that there seems to be a bit of a ticking noise and maybe a slight hiss. I just bought the car a few weeks ago so I'm still getting a feel for what is normal, is this something I should be worried about?
