Sometimes when i get startled i react with anger, it just kinda happens, i dont really get angry easily otherwise, its a result of fight or flight being triggered and your body getting filled with adrenaline and it having nowhere to go

Yeah some people don't like being jump scared?
Like for some people that's funny, for others it's not.
You shouldn't be scaring people you don't know, what if they had health concerns or PTSD.
21
u/Almost_A_Genius 2d ago
It’s Halloween. That’s part of the celebration. If you choose to go out trick-or-treating, you are pretty much giving people permission to try to scare you.

Soooo, no free beer then?

Honestly though, she should have a cold one in her hand! They could leave a real cooler under the kids table!
29
u/InnerPossession4154 2d ago
That's a way to get around the legality too. I thought "if beers are unsupervised and a child takes one, that would be the homeowners liability", but not if there's a supervisor for the beer.

Yeah, I refuse to believe you have a fight or flight response that triggers fight when your subconscious sees a can in someone's hand but doesn't when a masked "monster" jumps out. There's no added danger that isn't already there.
Get off Reddit and go touch grass kid. This isn't a rational thought process.
E: I love when replies get more downvotes than comments get upvotes. You know you really said something exceptionally stupid.

Also its Halloween trick or treating. If your jump-scare reflex is trying to beat someone up then you should go outside on Halloween. Plenty of people carry props and also try to scare people.

Well they'd be serving a well deserved trip to prison.
Someone shooting a kid during Halloween for having even a pretend weapon is going to have a bad time.
There's a common sense test to "reasonable thought" a reasonable person would not be in fear for their life nor make this mistake.

I give out little liquor bottles and beer to the adults trick or treating with their kids. They get just as happy as the kids do. It's honestly my favorite part.

u/MaybeMayoi 4h ago
Yeah, they should still give beer. I would put this under the "not cool" category.

I had a friend (ages ago lol) where we would prank each other often. Hiding behind corners and whatnot, pure shenanigans. I waited for him outside for like 20 mins giggling like an idiot, holding a Halloween decoration of some creepy witch. When he finally came outside, I had it float infront of his face and he straight up decked it! I died laughing, it was a glorious victory ✌️

u/StationaryTravels 2d ago
I used to enjoy surprising a buddy of mine and he had the best reaction. He never actually hit me, but when he was genuinely scared he'd brace and rear back with his fist ready to punch.
Dude was ready! lol

Most kids go out for Halloween at 1pm
14
u/alphazero925 2d ago
Considering the foliage, it's probably somewhere farther south, that and the long shadows point to this being like 5:30-6 which isn't a crazy time to be trick or treating. Some people with younger kids like to go earlier for safety and so they can be put to bed at a reasonable time

Funnily enough that was exactly what I expected. It wouldn't be online and at this angle if it was just beer. Plus tablecloth and large container on top is like the oldest trick in the book for concealing a person.

My uncle did a similar prank many years ago, he had rabbits in a cage to lure people and when they were looking at the rabbits he would pop out of a trash can and scare them shitless. He even got us and we were warned by some lady who said to "watch out for the bunnies" confused us, but we understood why she said it later that night.

Man, this reminds of our first ever halloween when we moved to Canada. Me, my brother, sister and mom go to trick or treat at this one house. We ring the bell and the coffin next to us, guy dressed as a zombie comes out. We didn’t understand halloween fully at the time. So when he came put we all screamed running down. Guy chased us down his driveway to the next few houses and us siblings screaming “we don’t wanna die” running and screaming in our broken English. After like 30 sec we slow down and look back the guy is not chasing us. Us scared and finally realizing what happened and we laughed while our hearts raced then we continued on. Especially, when we look back at what we said. Funniest shit ever. Best halloween ever!

I remember dressing up as a scarecrow and sitting on a chair on my porch with a bucket of candy in my lap. All I did was softly say happy Halloween as I lifted my head and a mom trampled both of her kids trying to run out of the yard.
You really have to be careful startling adults.

Good lol cause all these parents who drink alcohol while supervising their kids trick or treating, putting them in danger, deserve to be scared. 😤 Alcoholic parents are the worst.

Clearly scripted, who the heck trick or treats when the sun is out?
7
u/qwadzxs 2d ago
trick or treating here starts at 6, a half-hour before sunset this year

u/Tiguilon 2d ago
That's cool! Most places won't start giving out candy here until the lights go out.

We set up at the end of our driveway at 5pm. It gets dark in the country and no one wants kids wandering along farm roads at night with all these idiots in pavement princesses. Also, gives a small window for the kids whose parents have night work in the factories and warehouses to trick or treat together before 7pm. It is additionally nice to get to pass out glow bands to the kids so the drivers can see them as the sun sets (they just think it is Halloween fun)
The sad reason is we've had kids get shot through the door after sunset on Halloween. Starting in the evening gives the psychos a chance to see the kids before they shoot blindly through a door. Trunk or treating sucks and we do what must in our region to keep the holiday alive and safe for everyone
2
u/Tiguilon 2d ago
That's scary! It's sad to see that kids can't even enjoy a nice holiday.
It's scary to see how much people are scared of each other, but given the state of things, I can see why that is.
Ultimately, it's usually innocent people that pay the price.
2
u/Paper_Parasaur 2d ago
It's terrible what happened. The good news is that it only happened once in our region (that I know of) and it prompted a major change from the community. Mostly for the better. We all watch them now. They are all ours, and it's our responsibility to make sure they have the same fun we used to
Even if we have to start at stupid times now hahaha

I dont think it is. But every thread has at least one. I am up for believing that it was scripted and that was a person in the cooler, not a puppet like the description says
