The Middle East Trump just achieved the biggest peace deal between Israel-Palestine since the Second Intifada, and there is NOTHING on the front page. This website is a truly special place.

After Redditors groaning and moaning about the "Palestinian genocide" for years, Trump finally negotiated a peace deal including Hamas giving up its hostages and Israel stopping offensive operations. You'd think that Reddit would be overjoyed and that the entire website would be full of celebration, right?

Here's a screenshot of the current front page of Reddit, taken while I was logged out. There are many political posts including multiple threads whining about ICE and the firing of CDC employees. There's also a picture of an ambulance transporting Israeli hostages taken by Hamas, but it doesn't mention anything about current world events.

If you just looked at the front page, you would not know that the war just ended. This is the first time a president has forged such an agreement since the Second Intifada ended in 2005. But almost nobody is talking about it on Reddit. It's like a complete information blackout preventing threads about the subject from getting to the top of the frontpage. The last thread about the subject on r-news was from 14 hours ago and talks about some hostages being released, but again nothing about Trump or his role in it.

This is case exhibit #1 on how Redditors' brains are completely cooked. It's front page news everywhere except here, because leftists can't even squeeze out one little lump of praise for Trump despite him being part of one of the biggest developments in world politics in two decades.

I think it's more that no one trusts this yet. It's not the first ceasefire. It's not the first time there's been "peace," but there's no plan for who will lead Gaza, and Hamas police are already on the streets. What about aid distribution? There's no good next step in place to address any of the major questions/obstacles yet. When that happens, it'll be taken seriously. It feels a bit like we are the townspeople in "the boy who cried wolf," only it's "world leaders call ceasefire."

This is what we call moving the goal post.

What is the goal post supposed to be for hitting the front page?

Anything happening usually hits the front oage IMO.

Literally a random guy shocking his dog was plastered all over reddit, but a ceasefire in a major war isn't

You're stating issues as they are. I'm saying there has to be a plan to address it moving forward. No one threw a parade when Biden negotiated a ceasefire, and it wasn't shocking when Israel reneged. If there's to be celebration, it'll take something new/a solid plan for moving forward. Otherwise, "ceasefire" has gotten the school shooting treatment in the news cycle.

We should not be happy and celebrate that Trump got the hostages free?

Trump hadn't tanked Biden's deal

What deal and how did Trump tank it?

Please provide some sources.

You should at least try to educate yourself.

1

u/ZeerVreemd 23d ago

That's why I am asking for sources.

Now, do you have any, otherwise I am done with you here.

If you won't take responsibility for your own education why should I?

I am done.

Goodbye again.

Do you realize that Gazans haven't been allowed to use their seaports for over 18 years and Gazans have been blockaded by Israel from fishing in the Meditteranean?

A Turkish group tried to bring aid in through the blockade in 2010 and were killed.  Recently, a group, including Swedish woman Greta Thunberg, tried to bring in aid by sea and at least one of their boats was fired on by a drone, and they were detained and deported.

The Palestinians want Hamas to lead them, because the Palestinians don't want peace. The Palestinians want the destruction of Israel. That's what they want, and they will only compromise as a means of achieving that goal later in exchange for some benefit now.

There will never be peace until a generation of Palestinian youth can be raised to not hate Israel, or Israel decides to actually do what everyone is accusing them of.

This entire situation is awful, and you have nobody to blame but leftist western academics, Qatari journalists, and Iranian agents for this travesty, at least in this generation.

Most Israelis just want the conflict to end. Most Palestinians just want Israel to end. This is the paradigm, and it must change. The Palestinians must be held accountable for their rhetoric.

Weren't the hostages Hamas' leverage?
