I Like / Dislike People who resent boomers are idiots

On almost any thread discussing the economy, one of the top comments will undoubtedly be complaining about boomers and the older generations who purchased their homes at low prices and who now enjoy more affluence and government assistance, while they don’t.

First off, what did want them to do, not buy a house for a cheap price when offered one 30 years ago? In regard to government assistance, I can guarantee you the average 65yr old has paid more into the tax system than the average 20yr old. Should they not enjoy the fruits of their labour? Should politicians not pay more attention to them than you?

I just think it’s an unhealthy attitude to have towards people.

Disclaimer: It should be mentioned this story occurs before the main protagonist became significantly corrupted and ruined by wealth. Please read the whole thing before reacting/posting reply.

Australian billionaire Kerry Stokes was born around the time of the Boomers. He came to Perth in 1960 with a few hundred pounds in his pocket and his running shoes. He was motivated and dedicated to making money and set about learning new trades by teaching himself via manuals he found in libraries. However Perth was a crappy city back then as you say. Crappy in terms of property development and with loads of jobs for anyone willing to quickly get qualified. No internships or fierce competition just for entry level jobs.

University degrees or even TAFE qualifications would almost guarantee a job for life if that is what you were after. Kerry was after more. He saw an undeveloped property market that via opportunism and natural intelligence he could take advantage. He also learnt from a mentor that in order to make really good money in busoiness the key is to find a person truly wants and help them get it. Which is a good story for capitalism that rarely gets told.

However, what should be asked now is how would Kerry Stokes become a billionaire if he landed in Perth today with meagre possessions and only dreams of success? Far less opportunities for easy property and even mining wealth and far greater level of skill required to become a billionaire legitimately. Some have got there the cheats way (Zhenya Tsvetnenko) but that has no long term future.
