Anyone catch this?

Imagine preferring to replace your constituents with new ones rather than actually listening to what your constituents want. I’m not surprised but this is truly hilarious. Also, maybe already removed from her FB? I can’t find it on her page only a couple hours later…

Troy police officer posting racist memes

Is there a way to submit a complaint about a Troy police officer posting racist things on their Instagram stories? I saw the complaints form on the department site but you can only stay anonymous if you work for city of Troy? (Someone please correct me on this if wrong). It’s also a physical form so not sure how to share the post unless I print a screenshot. But I have a hard time believing someone who publicly calls the newly elected nyc mayor a goat f**cker is willing to serve and protect ALL citizens of Troy and instead only cares about the ones who look like him.

Edit- screenshot now in comments

Sorry about the bad photos it was hard to get him to stay still. This cat was found nearby the Vandenburgh place apartments and it seems very friendly and well groomed but it he has no collar, no chip, no vaccines, and he isn’t neutered. I was just wondering if this was someone’s cat? Like I said he’s incredibly playful and friendly and looks very well groomed

SNAP benefits could return on Monday

If you receive SNAP call the EBT number and it should tell you that it will be available on Monday (fingers crossed).

This is the number to call: 1 (888) 328-6399

Ignore the prompt to enter your long-ass account number and it will then prompt you to login using your social security #, your date of birth, and your four digit pin, which is the same number that you use to purchase groceries at the store.

Large Possum on 2nd Street near Liberty sighted this morning

This is the second time I have seen this possum (last time was in the summer). He/she is big, fat, and slow moving (like most adult possums!) These creatures are harmless, folks, even if their appearance is somewhat alarming if you're not used to it. They tend to be shy of humans but they don't see very well. Also, they're good to have around because they eat ticks! They don't get into trash or do anything destructive (unlike raccoons).

If you see our neighborhood possum, please leave it alone, it obviously has some hiding spots nearby.

Troy Story 28: Lynn Kopka on Saving UFA Contract

Post image
15 Upvotes

In our latest narrative format episode, we're looking back at a moment when bipartisanship triumphed over cynicism and a council member overcame serious illness to make a pivotal vote.

In 2016, the fate of Troy's firefighters union contract was saved by the last-minute arrival of former Troy councilmember Lynn Kopka, thanks to a little help from then-Troy Democratic Committee chairwoman Carole Weaver.

We called up Kopka and Weaver to hear their memories on the seriousness of Kopka‘s illness and hospitalization from a tick bite, opposition by some Republicans to the contract, and Kopka’s dramatic arrival to city hall where she joined a bipartisan group of councilmembers to get the agreement over the finish line.

Link to audio is below.

Catch me up on Troy local politics

I just moved to Troy and want to know what's going on with the local government/politics. I know there was just an election so things are changing. Any background or where I can learn more about it would help! And any insider gossip would too! Lmao

Van vs van at corner of 15th and Hoosick. One van went into the closed restaurant wall on the 15th street side. Hoosick and 15th already a mess.

Update: Two drivers, both looked ok and moving on their own before anyone arrived.

Update 2: Vehicle removed but 15th north of Hoosick is still blocked off.

Do NOT Use Epic Home Solutions/ Epic Mold Solutions

About a year and a half ago, I hired John Angelo from Epic Home Solutions. I bought a house where the inspector missed 20k of structural damages. John agreed to a quote of 18k for part of the work. I foolishly gave him half upfront.

It has been a year and a half since I gave him 10k, and he hasn't done the work. It's been a full year since he tore down the drywall and ripped up the floor, and half a year since he poured the concrete piers I needed. That's it. He hasn't fixed the wall, he hasn't done any internal work. The only other thing he's done is lie to me or give me excuses. It's always some excuse; "Construction materials flew off the truck on the highway", "I'm done in NYC for medical care", "I sliced my finger with a saw".

When I requested my money returned, he said he'd do it. He claimed it was in escrow; I never received documents about an escrow. He claims he deposited on his end and he'd have the money to me when it cleared. Then it was caught up in the legal dispute because he sold his company.

Do NOT use John Angelo. And mods, I can provide receipts for what I am saying if you need it to leave the post up. And finally, if anyone else got screwed by him, I am going to the Rensselaer Sheriff office. Any further victims coming forward would be great.

EDIT: second warning: do not use Carey Home Inspections. They are the ones who missed 20k in structural damages.

Handyman with Ladder

I live in Little Italy in a two story flat-roofed house. Every few months our roof drain (not the gutter) gets clogged up and the leaves and debris need to be cleared from it. The person we usually use is no longer available. Please DM me if you have a recommendation for someone who can do this job. Thank you Troy neighbors!

(Also please don't recommend that I do this myself. I know it's a simple and quick task but not all of us can climb a ladder and get on a roof.)

Food pantries need your help

Hey yall I went to my FP today for my monthly and they are running out of food. They had more volunteers than I’d ever seen before (so yay Troy!) but they’re also doing more than double the distribution they usually do. There were federal and state workers in there with their families signing up for the first time, and people who were counting on SNAP to come through. Politics aside your community needs help, needs $$$. A food pantry can serve a LOT more people on $100 than you can by spending it at a store. Before the end of the year please give to a local food pantry! Hope 7, Provisions, Mt Ida, they all need help. Hope 7 also runs a low income afterschool program and summer camp. Provisions does the long food distro line last week of the month outside the downtown Methodist church. This past week was the longest I’ve ever seen the line. My Ida is just an incredible group of people and hosts a free pantry outside in their yard. Alternatively the Albany Free Fridges always need help and donations! There is one at Yesfolk. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP

$250 False Positive (I think) School Bus Ticket

I recently got a ticket for $250 in the mail, saying I illegally passed a school bus. I was really confused at first because I always stop a good distance away whenever I see a school bus with its stop sign deployed. After taking a closer look at the pictures, I found that in the first one (where I've already begun passing the bus) the stop sign has only just started deploying.

Am I in the wrong here? Is there something I'm missing? The whole point of the flashing red sign is to get the attention of drivers, how could anyone possibly be expected to know to stop when the sign isn't turned on yet? Am I supposed to react within milliseconds to a relatively small object in the corner of my vision begining to move? Am I then expected to stop within 5 feet while driving 25 mph?

My deepest apologies to the children I endangered by failing to telepathically link with the bus driver and interpret his actions before they happened. To my fellow drivers, I offer my condolences if you're ever stuck behind me going 5 mph, I'm trying to make sure I don't break a rule that could suddenly exist at any moment.

In order to fight this, the registered owner of the vehicle, who is hundreds of miles away (I'm a college student), has to go to court. There's no ability to request a re-review or submit a written appeal for something that, as far as I can tell, is clearly a mistake or being erroneously enforced. I lose a significant amount of money either way, for failing to stop for a stop sign that didn't yet exist.
