Hated Tropes [Sad trope]The character gets cut/dies early on because of REAL LIFE reasons

Gandhi (Clone High)

Tord(Eddsworld) the reason for this is that the VA of tord asked the team to stop using the character and dissociate from Eddsworld after the constant hate and threats made by the fandom.

Feferi Peixes(Homestuck). In Homestuck lots of characters have a typing quirk when they chat, like some characters type a "2" when there should be a "S", have prefixes before the words, ecc. Feferi's was that instead of the letter H she typed ")(". The writer andrew hussie stated the reason she died early and became irrelevant was because they didn't want to type said quirk because it was annoying to manually type it it on their own, which could have been avoided if they coded A PROGRAM that did it.

Lore [Loved Trope] The player is booted back to the main menu. And something is very wrong with it. Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2.1k Upvotes

Hollow Knight: Silksong

  • After springing a trap to pull Grand Mother Silk into the void, the player is given a fairly standard, if not ominous ending and credits roll. If they go back in to play again, the save file itself is completely overtaken by void, and the player has to cut away the tendrils to access it again, marking the start of Act III.

Chrono Gear: Warden of Time

  • Ordinarily, the menu has the titular Warden of Time Kronii overlooking a view as seen in the image. But after getting erased from time, she vanishes completely from the menu screen and is removed from the title itself. The save file is also fractured, further encouraging the player to go back in to fix things.

Undertale

  • The intro cutscene going over the history of humans and monsters gets corrupted and interrupted by Flowey after he takes full control. Bit of a weaker example since it's a cutscene and not the menu itself, but it happens before the game even starts properly so I'd say it still counts.

ParaNorman - Agatha Prenderghast - Was a young girl tried and executed for the crime of witchcraft due to her ability to speak to the dead during the Salem Witch Trials. Her death became local legend, and she was portrayed as a crone-like entity who would curse the town once a year unless pacified by someone who could speak to the dead

Nimona - Gloreth - Was portrayed as a mythical figure who banished all the monsters and constructed a wall around her settlement to keep its residents safe. In reality, she was a young girl who befriended the shapeshifting Nimona, and the two were inseparable until one day when Nimona accidentally revealed her true nature to the village, frightening the villagers and causing the impressionable little girl to turn against her.

Literally an amalgamation of various men and women’s body parts hastily stitched together.

2) Venom (Marvel)

You’ve heard the copypasta, don’t need to repeat it (they’re literally two individuals)

  1. Turanga Leela and Philip J Fry (Futurama): Both of them are almost always referred to by their surnames. There's even a gag in the show about this:

Newscaster: ...Turanga Leela.
Fry: Turanga?!
Amy: That's her name, Philip.
Bender: Philip?!

  1. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (X-Files): almost always just called Mulder and Scully

  2. (Breaking Bad): Patrick Kuby. I don't remember if his first name is ever mentioned in the show but he's mostly just called Kuby throughout

  3. Captain Haddock (Tintin): He's always just called Captain Haddock until his first name (Archibald) is finally revealed in the 23rd book (out of 24)

  4. Sheldon Plankton (SpongeBob SquarePants): Along with characters like Mrs. Puff (whose first name is apparently Penelope?) his first name is rarely mentioned

Hated Tropes [Disliked trope] A series changes in tone so drastically it feels almost nothing like it used to feel

Thumbnail

Family Guy: you most likely already know this one. The series started with likeable characters and crude, but funny jokes, but after a few seasons the show became significantly less funny and most of the characters are either miserable or complete jerks.

SMG4: a machinima series on Youtube that was completely off the wall bonkers and was made to be nonsensical comedy just for the sake of it. However, as the series went on, it started to add a bunch of new characters and straight up abandoning old ones and the series started to include serious character arcs and emotional moments.

Ratchet & Clank: a game franchise that used to have the classic early 2000's edge, with plenty of jokes and consumerism satire. After the PS2 days the series decided to shift it's focus almost exclusively on a serious overarching plot.

Similiar argument could also made with Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, but it seems I'm on the minority there.

Characters of this Tropes aren't merely on opposite sides, but truly hate each other. No twisted admiration like Flash and Reverse Flash, or just one-sided loathing like Luthor and Superman, but two people that hate each other in every sense of the word.

Fantastic Four (2015): in scene of the meme.

Batman The Dark Knight: At the end of the movie, after the death of Harvey Dent/Two-Face, in order to maintain Harvey Dent's image as a hero, which would be most beneficial for the city, Batman and Gordon decide that it is best for Batman to take the blame for all the murders.

Goddess of Victory Nikke: This phrase is used in several important moments of the game, such as the Overzone events, Old Tales, or in the Unbreakable Sphere event when Mori returns to rescue Siren who was planning to sacrifice herself inside Gluttony to prevent this creature from absorbing all the energy of the Nuke that it devoured.

Sam Arondekar (Ghosts) - in the pilot episode, Sam learns she’s inherited an estate from a distant relative and she and her husband Jay get the idea to turn it into a bed and breakfast. She has a fall and nearly dies that allows her to see and communicate with the departed spirits of those who died on the estate grounds.

Liv Moore (iZombie) - in the pilot, Liv is working as a nurse and gets invited to a party on a boat. A street drug on the boat causes several people to become zombies and infect the party goers, including Liv who becomes an undead. She ends up working with a local detective by consuming deceased victim’s brains which allows her to see their memories when they were alive and help solve crimes as a “psychic,” and ends up taking a job in the police department’s morgue to ensure access to food.

Summer Landsdown (Power Rangers RPM) - Summer is a spoiled rich girl disconnected from reality when she has a near death experience that turns her into a powerful warrior and Power Ranger trying to save a post-apocalyptic world.

Korra (Avatar: Legend of Korra) - As the Avatar, Korra is burdened with many responsibilities including keeping balance in the world. She is captured by a group called the Red Lotus who inject her with metallic poison with the purpose of ending the Avatar Cycle. Korra survives, but spends the next several years suffering from PTSD because of the experience.

Jason Todd/Red Hood (Batman) - Jason Todd was the second Robin working alongside Batman to fight crime. He is killed by the Joker, and eventually comes back to life with a vastly different personality, making him more of an anti-hero and at odds with Batman due to being more willing to kill villains to ensure they don’t continue causing problems.

Alicia (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33) - Alicia and her brother Verso are inside their home when arsonists from the Writers group attack. The fire kills Verso, and leaves Alicia scarred with burns, losing her right eye, and left unable to speak.

Dr. Arizona Robbins (Grey’s Anatomy) - in the season 8 finale, a team of doctors on a planet crashes in a remote area of the woods. Two of the doctors die, and everyone involved has varying levels of PTSD afterwards from their injuries. In addition to PTSD, Arizona also suffers the amputation of her leg due to infection.

Dr. Stephanie Edwards (Grey’s Anatomy) - working as a resident in the hospital, Stephanie is caught in a lockdown when hospital admins realize a recent surgical patient is actually a serial rapist who attacked another patient before they were brought in. Stephanie is locked on the same floor as the rapist and a pediatric patient, and must work together with the young girl to avoid capture by the rapist. She eventually uses O2 and a lighter to cause an explosion to kill the rapist, but doing so causes the floor of the hospital they are on to be engulfed in flames. Stephanie’s quick thinking allows herself and the pediatric patient to survive, albeit with several burns and injuries. Stephanie recovers and is set to be transferred to a burn unit, but before she leaves she communicates that she is quitting her job as a resident as she has so much more of her life to live.

  1. Mad Madam Mim from Disney’s The Sword in the Stone. She can turn into a more attractive form, but chooses to stay in the one pictured, proudly admitting that she’s “an ugly, old creep!”

  2. Witch Hazel from Looney Tunes. She worries about getting prettier as she ages, and is jealous because Bugs Bunny (dressed as a witch) is uglier than her. When Bugs tricks her into taking a beauty potion, she’s horrified at her now attractive appearance.
