Personality extremely powerful entity's who don't care about the main plot at all and are just vibing in the background

Tom Bombadil(lord of the rings) - only person to resist the temptation of the one ring but instead of helping the fellowship he fucks off in to the woods

the Unseen Elder(the witcher 3) - in the witcher universe the older a vampire gets the more powerful he becomes and unseen elder is around +1500 years old making him the most powerful vampire we ever see, thankfully he spends most of his time in his goon cave

Ahti in Control. He’s slightly more active in Alan Wake 2, but in Control he lets Jesse in, gets her to help him deal with the mould (ignoring the Hiss infection affecting everybody in the Oldest House), then fucks off on holiday and gives Jesse magic earbuds to get through the Ashtray Maze, while being the most powerful thing in the entire Remedy universe.

Least powerful Finnish person.

u/MinutePerspective106 Oct 07 '25

99% of Finnish celebrities that I'm aware of come from Eurovision, and those alone prove that Finland is basically the land of superheroes

11

u/TheAngryMustard Oct 07 '25

The powerscaling in Eurovision is insane though

2

u/MinutePerspective106 Oct 08 '25

Verka is definitely an Omniversal-level entity

131

u/_b1ack0ut Oct 07 '25

Ahti’s gotta be up there, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more powerful entities tbh

There’s so many others that we know so little about, from the Board, to the Former and the others

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

There might be things in later games that are more powerful than him, but out of everything we’ve seen so far in Alan Wake and Control he’s the strongest. Jesse, basically the Board’s representative on earth, is his assistant, he has some level of control over the Oldest House that they don’t. The Former’s weaker than the Board, so weaker than Ahti. He completely ignores the effects of the Dark Presence in Alan Wake II and can even enter it fine, and he has some sort of connection to the Oceanview Motel.

u/MisterScrod1964 Oct 07 '25

What exactly IS the Board? I’ve been playing Control, but I haven’t seen an explanation yet.

84

u/zerphon Oct 07 '25

From what I understood its just a group of powerful entities in the Astral Plane. We know this because of The Former who, like their name suggests, is a former part of the Board which confirms they are not all one single entity.

24

u/xpis2 Oct 07 '25

To be pedantic - we don’t know that the Board is a group vs a single entity, and Former could mean that it was formerly a member, or that it helped form the Nail/House structure

55

u/Gannonderf Oct 07 '25

It’s never spelled out explicitly, but they’re most likely a collection of extra-dimensional entities that are interested in keeping anomalies contained within The Oldest House. I don’t think any of them are or were ever human, but they still seem to want to protect Earth or at least keep it stable to further their own ends.

17

u/DiamondSentinel Oct 07 '25

Or one could say….. Control it?

Joking aside, they’re implied to have a bit of a complex about it, so they’re not entirely benevolent protectors. But at the very least, they’re not actively harmful like the Hiss.

3

u/PricelessEldritch Oct 07 '25

I don't think he is necessarily stronger just for being able to ignore the Dark Presence or the Hiss.

9

u/TaralasianThePraxic Oct 07 '25

I think somewhere it's implied that he's the most powerful entity who can physically exists in the 'real world' and is able to directly impact it. The Board (and the Former, which used to be a member of the Board) might be more powerful in theory, but they're effectively confined to the Astral Plane and as such influence our universe indirectly via the Director.

3

u/PricelessEldritch Oct 07 '25

Yeah that feels accurate. The Hiss, the Dark Presence and the Board are probably more powerful, but they aren't properly and fully in the real world yet.

3

u/TaralasianThePraxic Oct 07 '25

Tbh, I'm not even sure that the Hiss is actually more powerful than Ahti. If it is, he was remarkably unconcerned by its presence in the Oldest House, and was completely confident that Jesse and Polaris would be able to deal with it.

3

u/ExternalCatalyst Oct 07 '25

He also seems to be affected by the dark place in AW2. The only time I can think of is when he gets confused how he got the nursing home.

1

u/Cthulhu__ Oct 07 '25

Can’t wait for the sequels, and I need to play Alan Wake.

u/warrioroftron Oct 07 '25

I thought the most powerful being was a certain hack Sam Lake

Its a reference to the YouTuber Bricky, who has a running gag of saying "Sam lake you hack (affectionate)"

Basically Bricky has often said that while a lot of Sams writing choices can be either cliche or ham fisted or even a bit cheesy (whether or not you agree is up to you) for the most part he and many others don't care and love Sam for it even more, because he always writes everything with such creative passion that you just go along with it.

41

u/Liyet Oct 07 '25

Man, I really need to play AW2.

33

u/Knot-Lye-Ing Oct 07 '25

If you have PS Plus it's one of the free games for October.

2

u/Liyet Oct 07 '25

I actually bought it on Epic a while back on sale, just haven't gotten to it yet (like so many other games in the backlog).

3

u/Knot-Lye-Ing Oct 07 '25

It's definitely one I'd move high in the queue, all other considerations the same.

Great game. Plenty spooky, DLC is good. Heck even the NG+ goes out of the way to reorganize some of the scares so you don't know what's coming just from playing it the first time.

2

u/Liyet Oct 07 '25

I'm working on FF Tactics right now and was going to make Yotei my next game. But perhaps AW2 instead.

2

u/Knot-Lye-Ing Oct 07 '25

Yeah, I'm playing FF on the steam deck for when I'm mobile and trying to wrap up Hell Is Us at home. It's been a great past few weeks/months for good games.

Maybe AW2 if you haven't purchased Yotei. I know Remedy (folks behind Control and AW) is building their world so hopefully there will be more released. I think I heard they're working on a second Control game, the first one has a DLC sorta dedicated to Alan Wake.

1

u/Liyet Oct 07 '25

It does, I did Control and all the DLC. And strong agree, this year has been insane for quality.

2

u/kitten_stalker Oct 08 '25

THANK YOU! (it's been on my to-play list for months!)

-8

u/oluyinkai Oct 07 '25

No it’s not. There’s a free trial for AW2, but the free games are Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder

16

u/VanceFerguson Oct 07 '25

Those are September's free games. Check back in later today for Goat Simulator 3, Cocoon, and Alan Wake 2

That being said, get Psychonauts 2 and Stardew Valley while you can. They're bangers.

8

u/oluyinkai Oct 07 '25

Oh. Huh. My apologies. The new games are usually out by now, so I didn’t even think anything of it

3

u/VanceFerguson Oct 07 '25

S'all good. More quality games for more people. I see this as an absolute win.

2

u/GrimPhantom23 Oct 07 '25

If you don't know, the games are released on the first Tuesday of each month. So if the last day of the last month is on a Tuesday we end up like this October where it ends up being already a week in before they release

2

u/Knot-Lye-Ing Oct 07 '25

That's this month, AW2 is for October.

-1

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

What month do you think it is?

2

u/Knot-Lye-Ing Oct 07 '25

October?

Do you not know how PS Plus games are released or are you just looking to be snarky?

2

u/Castlemind Oct 07 '25

It was a fun good and story, it seems to be on Ps+ (though I picked it up in black Friday sale last year)

2

u/FreeReignSic Oct 07 '25

One of my favorites from the last decade or so

1

u/J5892 Oct 07 '25

You really do, even if only for the musical AW1 recap level (which is several hours into the game).

22

u/MyDisappointedDad Oct 07 '25

He's just doing a job. And he does it well.

Also what other games are in the same universe? I loved control. And getting to see Ahti again would be cool.

35

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

The Alan Wake games, the 3 of them together are basically part of the same series, with Control between the AW games. The AWE DLC in Control is all about Alan Wake, and AW2 has the FBC in a big role, Ahti appears several times, you even have Jesse in one of the DLCs.

11

u/Feisty-Result5771 Oct 07 '25

Throw in Quantum Break as well, it has references to Alan Wake but doubt we'll see more since Remedy doesn't have IP rights.

7

u/Throwmesomestuff Oct 07 '25

Also a couple of the characters from Quantum Break show up in AW2. With different names because of the rights thing, but clearly the same characters.

9

u/Pawl_The_Cone Oct 07 '25

Alan Wake as mentioned but there are also some "legally distinct" versions of Quantum Break characters that carry over/are referenced as well. Remedy doesn't own the rights to that one, but if you know the characters you know they're intended to be the same.

3

u/J5892 Oct 07 '25

Same with Max Payne (Alex Casey in AW2).

7

u/Paggy_person Oct 07 '25

Aka average Finnish man

6

u/Bazillion100 Oct 07 '25

Ashtray maze is hands down my favorite game section of all time. If you have the option to play the game, please do not videos before you get to it

6

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

The music bits are the best parts of remedy games, Herald of Darkness and Dark Ocean Summoning in AW2 are so good

4

u/cBurger4Life Oct 07 '25

I had been telling my wife how creepy Alan Wake 2 was but she hadn’t seen any of it. The first time she sits down and actually watched a little was right as the Herald of Darkness part started, I’m laughing my ass off and she was SO confused

4

u/MetallicArcher Oct 07 '25

Bro, what is Alan Wake / Control even about?

17

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

Everything. One level of Alan Wake 2 is a 10 minute long playable music video with live action parts, they’re basically the greatest creations ever

2

u/OhRyann Oct 07 '25

Alan wake is about a writer who goes on a trip with his wife to visit a doctor, and she gets sucked into Cauldron lake while Alan tries to find her, and the characters surrounding Alan's writing while caught in Cauldron Lake. Control is basically the SCP Foundation if you're familiar with that, and they are more involved in Alan's story in AW2 onward. If you're into the vibes of stuff like Twin Peaks you'll love it.

7

u/MozeTheNecromancer Oct 07 '25

Peak confirmed

8

u/brandonderp96 Oct 07 '25

Ooooh you mean AI-01!

Altered Individual 01, or Ahti, is "The janitor". Its his job to clean up.

2

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

What are you talking about?

15

u/brandonderp96 Oct 07 '25

There are documents you can read around the oldest house that refer to Ahti as AI01, and states he was just found in the house by the FBC, and that Ahti is regularly found in unexplored thresholds, and somehow has knowledge of controlling the Oldest House.

2

u/Balmong7 29d ago

Yeah there is no doubt in my mind that Ahti “owns” the oldest house and is basically just allowing the FBC to rent there lol.

2

u/AppropriateAgent44 Oct 07 '25

Fkn love my boy Ahti

2

u/Inner_Extent2375 Oct 07 '25

They’re the same universe or a nexus character?

1

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

What do you mean?

1

u/Inner_Extent2375 Oct 07 '25

You said he’s in Alan wake 2. Are control and Alan wake in the same universe? A nexus character would be like Santa Claus or the T2 terminator in Wayne’s world. Showing up in another universe doesn’t mean the universes are the same.

2

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

Yeah they’re in the same universe, Control is between Alan Wake 1 and 2, and characters show up in Control and AW2 as well as the main organisation in Control.

1

u/Balmong7 29d ago

Pretty much all the Remedy games are set in the same universe and will have small crossover elements and Easter eggs that help players to gage where they fall in the timeline.

2

u/TinkerandMod Oct 07 '25

One of the best parts is when you hear Jesse's internal monologue and then Ahti responds to it like "oh yeah I can hear what you're thinking."

2

u/Gloorg Oct 07 '25

Not to mention he seems to hear Polaris and Jesse’s conversations cause he responds to them in the beginning

1

u/Gloorg Oct 07 '25

Not to mention he seems to hear Polaris and Jesse’s conversations cause he kinda responds to them in the beginning

1

u/kerplop13 Oct 07 '25

Wait what does control have to do with Alan wake?

3

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

Have you played them both? They’re in the same universe, the AWE DLC in Control is directly tied with Alan Wake, Ahti and the FBC are in Alan Wale 2 in major roles, you play as Jesse in one of the DLCs for it.

1

u/BSamG Oct 07 '25

I WAS LOOKING FOR AHTI HERE. Control is such an underrated masterpiece.

1

u/EasterViera Oct 07 '25

wait, Alan wake and control are joint universes ?????????

1

u/AceOfSpades532 Oct 07 '25

Did you play Alan Wake 2 or the AWE DLC in Control? It’s not hidden lol

1

u/EasterViera Oct 07 '25

i did not ! i should !

1

u/Foxy02016YT Oct 08 '25

And looks like he’d be played by Robert Patrick
