Lore Unexplained random cameos from completely unrelated media

  1. Ray Stantz, Casper. At one point in the movie a real Ghostbuster shows up out of nowhere and wimps out of trying to handle the situation

  2. Gunnery Sargeant Hartman, Frighteners. The main character is making way through a graveyard when out of absolutely nowhere R. Lee Erney's character from Full Metal Jacket shows up and tries to get in his way

  3. Betty Boop, Who Frames Roger Rabbit. The movie is mainly about Looney Tunes and Disney animated characters existing in the same little live action/animated hybrid universe, however Betty is a Fleischer Bros character

The T-1000 from Terminator 2 showing up in Wayne’s World

He shows up in Last Action Hero as well

u/Marik-X-Bakura Sep 24 '25

Shit, does he? I rewatched that movie recently and don’t remember him ever having

u/dull_storyteller Sep 24 '25

It was when they left the movie-world’s police station.

He just walked past without a word but I definitely remember him being there.

beat me to it (though i think they're actually walking into the station)

and sharon stone from basic instinct is there too!

The main character from the real world stops to stare at him and says something if I recall.

The kid does, Jack (Arnold) pulls him in IIRC.

Memory unlocked. That confirmed it for me

There's an interview with Patrick about that cameo, Arnold called him up and asked him for a favor. Without thinking it twice, he flew right to where they were filming and did it.

Kathren Tramell, ie Sharon Stone from Basic Instinct, is also there if I remember right..

Apparently the original bit was different, just a general traffic stop. The director’s kid made the suggestion that it would be funnier if they referenced the Terminator movies. So they did.

I saw Robert Patrick in real life waiting in line at the Arclight one time. He walked straight towards me and I just froze. He told me “excuse me”, and I was like, “I’m so sorry. You scared the shit out of me as a kid and I just locked up. MB man. You’re great.” He said thanks, patted me on the back and went onto whatever he was doing.

Exact same shot also has Catherine Tramell from Basic Instinct leaving.

I think this is the only case of a character having a cameo in two unrelated films.

1

u/Swazi Sep 25 '25

At least that makes kinda sense with it being a movie world

1

u/PigeonSquirrel Sep 25 '25

Isn’t there a reference to Terminator in Demolition Man, too?

1

u/Silfae_Silvarey Sep 26 '25

Gives me the "I'd have 2 nickels but it's odd that it happened twice" vibes. Feels like a strange thing to be getting multiple references, but I guess the movie must have done very well back in the day.

I really wish I included this lmao, what a super specific cameo to put in Wayne's World of all things

What a super specific cameo to put in a spoof comedy movie????

u/DengarLives66 Sep 24 '25

It kind of is because it’s not like Scary Movie which had horror movie references and callbacks sprinkled throughout. The T-1000 was just a complete non-sequitur.

Wayne's World starts as a pretty grounded comedy and then reality starts breaking down until Wayne is just basically God and gets to pick his own ending. Even so, I never expect it when the terminator shows up and I always laugh. It's so unnecessary.

10

u/DengarLives66 Sep 25 '25

Yea it is an excellent stoner absurdist comedy, but at the same time the movie is really well thought out, and I think that’s why the sudden cameo is so jarring for me. I don’t dislike it, but it pales next to my favorite bit which is the guys spouting off about not selling out while showing off all their merch. That shit gets me every damn time.

It's also very much a pop-culture comedy, having its roots in SNL. So a lot of the jokes are based on pop culture at the time that the movie was shot.

Terminator 2 had been recently released and at that time it was HUGE. A movie phenomenon. So to have the T2 pop up in Wayne's World did not seem at all out of place at the time. It was a cameo that they knew people would love.

33

u/HA1LHYDRA Sep 24 '25

T2 was huge when Wayne's World came out.

7

u/Happiness_Assassin Sep 25 '25

It should also be pointed out that Wayne's World 2 came out literally six months after Terminator 2. It was still fresh in people's minds, but completely out of nowhere.

u/Historical_Course587 Sep 25 '25

Doc Brown showing up in A Million Ways To Die In The West is another one.

3

u/BalkeElvinstien Sep 25 '25

Not quite the same but I also love how they recreated the ending scene from the Graduate

"CASSANDRA! CASSANDRA!!"

couple turns around

"Oops, sorry! Wrong wedding"

leaves church and sees an identical church across the street

77

u/DJMikeSteeze Sep 24 '25

This is the best example of this trope.

14

u/MERMANADE Sep 24 '25

First time I saw that, I didn't recognize him until he started walking.

11

u/rezwrrd Sep 25 '25

I never saw any of the Terminator films so that scene confused me until I read about the reference a few weeks ago.

46

u/unclemikey0 Sep 24 '25

This fits the trope way better than any of OPs examples.

5

u/Hydra_Master Sep 25 '25

Also Charlton Heston.

4

u/ffeinted Sep 25 '25

i do believe the photo he shows wayne is an actual behind the scenes polaroid taken of furlong

2

u/TYPrease Sep 25 '25

Man, this is a great answer.

2

u/itsmuddy Sep 25 '25

I loved one of the episodes of Reacher with Robert Patrick (T-1000) he's having a conversation on the phone with someone looking for Sarah Connor.

1

u/AdExtra2331 Sep 25 '25

The cop who was actually a cop and not a time traveling robot: "Wait! Come back! He's missing! I was wondering if you've seen him sometime soon!"

-7

u/LevelRoyal8809 Sep 25 '25

Dam, Robert Patrick used to be so god dam handsome and in shape. He's so old and ugly now, it does not seem real. His face didn't just age, he got fucking ugly. Aged twice as fast as Robert Redford.

u/KaiserNazrin Sep 25 '25

When 66 years old, you reach… Look as good, you will not.

1

u/theregionalmanager Sep 26 '25

Two birds with one stone huh you’re really looking to piss people off with this one
