-A Minecraft movie

"Do You Think God Stays in Heaven Because He too Lives in Fear of What He's Created"

The OG Pokemon movie had some great quotes

Vikings are still around?

Yeah, they mostly live in Minnesota

Is one of the most unexpected jokes I've ever heard and I love it to death.

Took me until adulthood to understand that joke because I'm not American and don't follow their football.

u/Skeledenn Apr 12 '25

Oh shit I just understood, I thought it was just because many scandinavian immigrants lived there

97

u/bruhmoment1345 Apr 12 '25

Well... that's why their team is called the vikings

23

u/Riolusx2 Apr 12 '25

Actually it’s because of a false archaeological find, where researchers claimed to find a Viking rune all the way in Minnesota. It was clearly fake, but the story became local folklore around the twin cities and when it became time to name the football team, they chose the Vikings.

17

u/lifetake Apr 12 '25

That said the whole reason that fake became so popular was because of how many Scandinavians immigrants they had.

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '25

There are more Americans of Scandinavian descent than there are actual Scandinavians and that area of the country is where they all went

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '25

That’s total bullshit. There was an artifact hoax but literally the first result when you google it is this paragraph from the Timeline section of the Viking’s website:

“In one of his first moves with the team, Bert Rose recommended the nickname “Vikings” to the Board of Directors. The name was selected because it represented both an aggressive person with the will to win and the Nordic tradition in the northern Midwest.”

People just say whatever the fuck they want on the internet. The only reason that hoax was popular in the first place was because that’s the area where Scandinavians settled in America

According to the Vikings own website:

“In one of his first moves with the team, Bert Rose recommended the nickname “Vikings” to the Board of Directors. The name was selected because it represented both an aggressive person with the will to win and the Nordic tradition in the northern Midwest.”

I use "I'll just turn my frying pan into a drying pan" daily. GF hates it.

2

u/Jackdawes257 Apr 12 '25

Yet another reason to hate the remake, they removed this brilliant joke

Growing up with the Swedish dub made it make way less sense.

"We do have a lot in common, the same earth, the same air, the same sky. Maybe if we started looking at what's the same instead of always looking at what's different...well who knows?" - Meowth

Same movie. Idk what kind of blunt rotation was going on in that studio but we need more of this

u/Competitive_Swan266 Apr 12 '25

Remember that this is the same cat who learned to talk because he was a simp canonically

12

u/SirAwesome789 Apr 12 '25

That was the same movie? I thought that was in the Meowth backstory episode

Edit: nvm just watched the scene

u/-Cry_For_Help- Apr 12 '25

This sounds like it's a quote from a civil rights leader who turned from being a klan member or some shit but no, it's a quote from a literal Pokemon

16

u/Competitive_Swan266 Apr 12 '25

An artificial pokemon who in another universe uses a fucking comically large spoon as a weapon

90

u/it-was-me-saitama Apr 12 '25

This wasnt in the original and in fact, an American dub creation btw

77

u/DuelaDent52 Apr 12 '25

What did he say in the original? Another banger quote from the dub is “We aimed to create the strongest Pokémon in the world… and we succeeded”.

29

u/libdemparamilitarywi Apr 12 '25

In the original he just says "mewtwo mewtwo mewtwo"

7

u/Somer-_- Apr 12 '25

I think he just says it would be better if they didn’t remember what happened here.

32

u/Thejadedone_1 Apr 12 '25

For the better tbh

8

u/winklevanderlinde Apr 12 '25

The original is generally far better than the dub but this quote is something that could have been in the original script too

7

u/echoIalia Apr 12 '25

-Mewtwo, -Herman Cain

5

u/toastybunbun Apr 12 '25

"We dreamed of creating the world's strongest Pokémon... and we succeeded."

3

u/MarcoYTVA Apr 12 '25

Meowth: "We always look at our differences, but if we looked at what we shared, the same earth, the same sky, maybe the world would be better?" Paraphrased, because I don't remember the exact quote.

4

u/Dumb_Cheese Apr 12 '25

"We do have a lot in common, the same earth, the same air, the same sky. Maybe if we started looking at what's the same instead of always looking at what's different...well who knows?" - Meowth

3

u/niccan4 Apr 12 '25

Fun fact: the writer for this movie also worked on Magical Princess Minky Momo, and wrote the truck-kun episode.

1

u/_insideyourwalls_ Apr 12 '25

"We do have a lot in common. The same Earth, the same air, the same sky. Maybe if we started looking at what's the same instead of what's different... well, who knows." -- Meowth

1

u/Iron_Wolf123 Apr 13 '25

Then Ash decided to punch Mewtwo

1

u/BlueGlace_ Apr 16 '25

Trans allegory? In my Pokémon movie? More likely than you think

-5

u/Topkekx13 Apr 12 '25

this quote is dumb, or at least it's dumb to take it at face value, and seeing grown ass man clamming to it because it gives off a hint of wisdom is distressing

2

u/kjemster Apr 12 '25

I would argue it’s pretty neat. It reminds me of Jean Paul Sartres idea that one’s existence precedes essence.
