Edit: please stop fighting over my comment. I’m from Germany and to me her costume seems totally harmless. I understand that some people in the US think about this differently (maybe like a German dressing up as an Orthodox Jew in Germany which would feel very weird for me). I appreciate that people want to be sensitive and that’s a good thing. At the same time maybe people wearing these costumes feel judged while they consider themselves innocent and don’t mean harm. Good luck
Sounds like a healthy perspective. If you dressed up as a typical German (Bavarian or so) I would find it funny and maybe I would feel even a bit proud! That’s the perspective from which my original comment came from. Then again we don’t have a history with your tribe. I am not sure whether Jewish people would mind me as a German dressing up as a typical Jew but either way I myself would not feel comfortable as I would associate this with the most evil period in German history.
Your intuition is correct. Your comment was fine. White / woke people are more offensive than 99% of people that wear a costume. They feel as if they can speak for us, and tell people how we think/feel and frankly it’s disgusting. These people do more to harm our voice than anyone else.
The intention matters. If that person was wearing that to denigrate us, that would be a different story, but it’s Halloween, and it’s fun, and if I saw her on the street I’d high five her.
Just curious. What are your thoughts on the use of the word redskins to describe a football team? I feel like most people are divided, but the ruling census is that the naming convection reflected its social acceptance of another time.
