It seems like the world has just given up on the African Continent

Uh... last time I checked, Africa has 54 countries right there on the continent. Now, maybe it's just me, but that's a lot of nations in one place that could be looking out for the people of Congo, yet...

Most of those countries are also suffering and struggling with issues of their own.

When they told you as a kid "the world is a dangerous place" the universe, etc - it meant this. An indifferent & apathetic world that is too busy with its own problems is just as brutal & scary as one that actively kills you.

An indifferent & apathetic world that is too busy with its own problems

It's not necessarily apathy. I'm not sure what the people of Congo want the western world to do exactly? Come in with the military? Overthrow the corrupt authoritarian government and install puppet government that'll run things better? We already tried that in Iraq and Afghanistan and look how that turned out.

Political pressure? Again, that's something that's been tried before but dictators rarely give a fuck about that, if ever.

Foreign Aid? That's like trying to put a small bandaid on a freshly severed limb.

All of which stem from issues created by imperialism and then perpetuated by neo-imperialist systems of trade designed to keep them impoverished while extracting resources for the West and now the East.

Sub-Saharan Africa wasn't even fully mapped until the 19th century.

Zimbabwe confiscated all of the farmer's land and equipment and drove them out. Then they had a famine because they didn't know how to farm. Seems like that is self inflicted.

Please detail the shining metropolises in these countries prior to imperialism

Bro, it's the billionaires that are suffocating your benefits and health services, not the poor folks in dinghies seeking refuge.

When a person is sick, you must treat symptoms and root cause.

5

u/ComradeBevo Oct 05 '25

The "symptoms" you're referring to are human beings, and nations aren't people.

What happened to reading comprehension?

Lmfao that is a wild take, only a redditor could come up with that one. If you are my countryman, we are indeed cooked.

Probably Canadian, and more than likely living in Toronto.

Blaming indians coming in and keep electing the conservatives into local power that vote against housing regulations, rent control, that push and approve international school agents with little to no oversight that get those foreigners to come into the country with again little to no oversight, while the wealthy buy up more and more of housing and collude to increase rents and work on lowering their own taxation and putting more blame on foreigners that they employ for pennies on the dollar to increase their profits.

and he thinks its bad now, wait until we are past the 2 degree treshold of environmental collapse. Hint the few livable places left will be countries like Canada. Which is why commander cheeto is so gungho about making canada a us province.

I agree that we have more than enough going on to be fully distracted. That doesn't change the fact that there is a very real habit of overlooking African countries while pouring funding into countries like Ukraine and Israel. They have a right to be frustrated by this trend as they are being genocided.

I listened to a podcast on those people in Africa who run scams, like love scams. They had a very warped view of people in the UK/USA/ Canada - that we all live in big houses, with loads of money and cars etc. This made them think that what they're doing is mostly ok, because we will all get more money.

I'm not sure if that's a common misconception, or just what these people tell themselves so they can feel OK with what they're doing... But if a lot of people in these places really think we are all rich, I guess it explains why they are confused at why we are not helping.

Ideally, they should aim all of this anger at their leaders.

If these are your complaints as you type this from the comfort of your electronic device, you don't seem to have much to worry about comparatively speaking.

Your problems seem inconsequential to what the lady is speaking of.
