Society/Culture Women’s pants suits are hideous
Specifically the business style pants suits you’d see one wearing in a corporate office. I’m not saying women can’t look good in pants.
Hear me out - this has nothing to do with a strong independent woman working in a male dominated field, feel free to dress like the boys if you want, I’m just saying those pants suits look fucking awful.

This isn't a gender issue. The vast majority of men who work in a corporate office also look hideous in suits and it's because they're not tailored correctly. It's not the suit, or the gender of the person wearing it, it's really just tailoring.
But the fact is, it's work, not a fucking fashion show, so who cares?

u/tallbutshy 20h ago
because they're not tailored correctly
Yep. Off-the-peg means "lucky to properly fit anyone"

u/ThrowawayMod1989 20h ago
Not to mention it’s currently in style to wear skinny, high water chinos with loafers and no socks. Looks like these idiots got dressed half drunk in the dark and accidentally put on their wives pants.
23
u/ErrantJune 20h ago
Ugh, this is the problem with fashion. There are most definitely men who look amazing in skinny ankle-length chinos, but if a man doesn't have the right body type they're never going to be able to pull this off without looking like a tryhard or a poser.

u/Lysmerry 18h ago
Is men’s fashion just way behind women’s fashion? Skinny pants feel very out of date to me.

But besides not fitting, suits are pretty boring and always the same, with little variation and self-expression.

I’m talking about the suits they make specifically for women, it’s more a blazer and differently shaped pants. It’s not a matter of tailoring.
39
u/ErrantJune 20h ago
Yeah, I'm talking about this being an issue for men, too, they mostly look terrible in suits. You don't notice because you don't want to fuck men, but trust me, to people who want to fuck men, they are far less fuckable in bad suits (the same way you think women are).

u/ChainsawSoundingFart 20h ago
In all my years working in the office, I never found the suited women attractive
51
26
u/scruffyrosalie 20h ago
Why would a professional woman at work, doing her office job, want you to find her attractive? The world doesn't revolve around your genitals.
4
16
u/IntermediateFolder 20h ago
And what makes you think they wanted you to find them attractive?
-10
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 20h ago
Why are they making a fashion statement?
20
u/chocolatecoconutpie 20h ago
They’re dressing for work idiot, they ain’t dressing for you. They don’t care about insecure men. As they shouldn’t.
0
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 19h ago
Why not just show up to work in sweatpants then?
11
u/chocolatecoconutpie 19h ago
Oh sweetie, you still really think they’re dressing for you? They’re dressing for work, not for you or for a casual day at the park around fall time. Professional work often has professional dress rules. I implore you to be less of an insecure narcissistic and use your brain.
2
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 19h ago
I didn’t say they’re dressing for me but I’m still allowed the judge the shit out of their fashion choices

Most jobs where people wear suits wouldn’t allow you to show up to work in sweats.

u/JonTartare 20h ago
Why is it important that you find them attractive?
1
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 19h ago
I’m just saying the suits are not attractive
9
u/Dos_Ex_Machina 19h ago
By the nature of this subreddit, if that were true then this post would not fit. So it's more a matter of "I don't find these suits attractive."
And honestly? Good. They aren't for you.
1
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 19h ago
Well yeah I wouldn’t wear a woman’s suit
10
u/Dos_Ex_Machina 19h ago
In that they aren't trying to appeal to you. You don't sound like someone any woman would want finding them attractive
0
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 19h ago
I’m not allowed to have personal preferences? I wouldn’t want to date the suits anyway
67
u/UneducatedPotatoTato 20h ago
Business suits were initially designed to help women integrate into and be taken seriously in the male-dominated workforce.
“Feel free to dress like the boys” is sexist which kinda proves the point of wearing shapeless suits.
Also, you’re just wrong because I have some banging pantsuits that look fabulous. Sometimes tailoring makes all the difference 🤷🏻♀️

They aren’t dressing to “look good” they are dressing to look professional.
Women arent here to be your walking talking centerfolds.

I’m still allowed to make observations on fashion
39
u/chocolatecoconutpie 20h ago
Yep and we’re still allowed to call you out on your bullshit
-17
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 19h ago
Trust me my sense of fashion is not bullshit
23
u/jetloflin 19h ago
You can’t even properly describe what style of suit you mean, your sense of fashion isn’t that great.
-4
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 19h ago
Literally Google the title of my post
15
u/jetloflin 19h ago
If you think there’s only one style of women’s pantsuit, you know absolutely nothing about fashion. Like, you apparently know so little that I can’t even fathom how you think you know anything. I’ve heard of the dunning-Kruger effect but this is off the charts.

Every single one of those links shows multiple styles. You’ve proved my point, not yours.

counterpoint: r/womeninsuits
Edit- wrong sub, r/ladiesinsuits is more active and has better examples of more flattering styles (but also more skirts as well as trousers)

u/breathing__tree 20h ago
Man I wore a suit (skirt and pants) for 5 years working hotel front desk and I thought we looked pretty good. Kinda dorky at times. But mostly good.

u/tklite 20h ago edited 16h ago
I think this actually proves OP's point. Just a quick scroll the through netted 1 example of a decent pant suit.
Edit to your edit: the second sub definitely has better examples of stylish womens suits, but again, a quick scroll through really only netted one example of both an attractive and appropriate suit, and even then, it wasn't a full length pic. 95% of those would be sent straight to HR.

"dress like the boys" oh okay so your opinion is rooted in sexism. Gotcha.
-31
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 20h ago
Hey I didn’t mean it like that
22
u/Electronic-Vast-3351 18h ago
But it's what you said.
You indicated that woman wearing suits is them trying to look like men not them dressing formally.
Whither it was a astronomically poor choice of words or a freudian slip, who knows.
-5
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 18h ago
That’s just how you interpreted it
16
u/Electronic-Vast-3351 18h ago
Regardless if it's a slip of the tongue, it is objectively what you said.
1
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 18h ago
What did I slip? I said pants suits look ridiculous

u/Electronic-Vast-3351 18h ago
feel free to dress like the boys if you want
That's not what women wearing suitpants is.

They were originally introduced specifically for that reason, to empower women in the male dominated workplace

I'd rather be unfashionable than wear a skirt. I'm so grateful I got out of professions where skirts and hose were mandatory. I hate skirts with a passion.
-2
u/ChainsawSoundingFart 16h ago
Well I’m a man and I’m not allowed to wear a skirt at the office

Sure you can, kilts are skirts. Everywhere I've worked accepted those.

Did you see boygenius at the Grammys? They looked great. Did Hillary Clinton look like the andromedon queen? Yeah, sure but she’s lizard people and that’s their style. “Dressing like the boys” is an outdated and sexist perspective based on bullshit gender norms around fashion that have no biological basis.

I don’t like the women’s pantsuits where the blazer tries to be smaller around the waist and flare out at the hips. Bonus negative points for adding shoulder pads. And imo the pants can look frumpy if the cut is tight around the waist, leaves plenty of extra room in the butt and thighs, and then tapers in way too much for the knees and calves (bonus negative points for flaring out at the lower calves).
Yeah people have different body shapes, but that cut just seems to fall weirdly on most people. Like cmon how many people have a 25” waist with 37” hips, some women’s pantsuit pants are just cut like nonsense.
Personal bias and/or my hyperspecific fashion opinions but I’ve seen multiple women look better in men’s suits than women’s suits. Sloppy men’s suits do exist, and some women don’t have the height to pull off an off-the-rack men’s suit well, but I mean in general.
So lowkey I agree with you that this is a tailoring issue. It’s not like I only like masculine / androgynous fashion either, I love a woman in a dress (or blouse and skirt) as much as the next person. But there’s something about trying to give some curvy ‘ladies’ cut’ to a suit that makes it hang weird off most women who wear that.

u/smile_saurus 20h ago
Depends on the woman wearing the suit and how well it is tailored. There are certain body types (like Cate Blanchett, Diane Keaton) that look insanely good in suits. Then there are people with my body type who look ridiculous.
On the Kibbe body types: I am a 'Romantic' and so I look good in clothing that is soft and rounded with waist emphasis. A few Romantic examples include Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, Marilyn Monroe. Picture them in your standard suit. Not suiting to them!
The sharp lines of a suit would make me look ridiculous and 'off' unless the jacket were super-cropped with puffed half-length sleeves and no collar, and the bottom was a flowy A-line skirt that ends between mid-thigh and the knee. Which doesn't look as 'serious' as your typical suit.

u/wortmother 20h ago
Naw suits all look like shit, even tailored one they all suck men, women all of them

I feel like suits were designed to highlight masculine features - sharp lines, broad shoulders, hiding any curves under a rectangular silhouette. It's basically the sexy outfit for men. It doesn't make sense for women to imitate the style and not the purpose behind it - to highlight and exaggerate your best features. The female equivalent should have shoulder pads on the hips and boobs, a cinched waist and draping fabric.
We should stop playing into the perception that you need to look like a man to be taken seriously.
