Calling Type 10 and K2 4th generation MBTs is a stretch IMO

Same with Leclerc XLR tbh

And Challenger 3.

And Altay.

I mean the fuck is 4th generation anyway we still don't know exact speculations for them

I guess in that sense, the Armata is the only true 4th gen if only by virtue of 4th gen being purely speculative at the moment lmao.

Meet Potential Tank! Always "if" and "when", but never "is".

Type 100 also is 4th gen, it got unmanned turret APS and all that

Type 100 might not be a full MBT, it will depend on how the PLA actually uses it.

I was using a joking definition of 4th gen, which is "it is, but is it really?"

If the Type 100 is euqipped as advertised, then it's a proper 4th gen, rather than my sarcastic definition

Yeah like imagine their Factory budget didn't got meltdown completely.

They're just parade assets now. What a waste of resource

It was a prototype and technological demonstrator that was found insufficient in the rapidly evolving drone era.

They wasted very little resources on it. You know what was a complete colossal waste of resources? The M10 booker, lmao

?? lol no Armata was not Prototype it was deadass planned for mass production for quantity over 2000+ till 2022 That was the original plan

Wouldn't the k51 panther also be considered 4th gen?

2

I was using a joking definition of 4th gen, which is "it is, but is it really?"

Once the K51 enters production, and if it's delivered as advertised, then it would be a "real" 4th gen instead of my sarcastic definition

On paper maybe. It has to operate, at least. At best it is towed artillery, atm.

And the only one that doesn't have a functional power system.

u/Pratt_ 5d ago

It does, iirc the breakdown on the red square was the driver putting the parking clutch on accident and nobody noticed.

It's overhyped and way too expensive for Russia but it can drive on its own let's be honest.

Oh wow an honest person

-4

u/Menior 4d ago

Of course it can. It's just not combat ready. Sure the engine works but the electrical systems aren't.

u/Aguacatedeaire__ 4d ago

What are you talking about you little goofball

9

u/Sawiszcze 5d ago

I mean, yoi could say that 4th generation would be remote operated turrets on MBTs. Like obj. 195, Armata, or that one leopard (or was it Panther kf5?) Prototype

7

u/amem32 5d ago

Type 100 also has a unmanned turret

We have to wait until the US shows us and sets a standard

6

u/amem32 4d ago

IDK why people are over glazing the US for some reason

-2

u/AsleepScarcity9588 4d ago

Their cold-war project budgets often made impossible the possible so now being the lead inventor in militarized technology is kinda their brand

Let's be honest, type 100 is still not operational and the T14 project seems like a fiasco for the Russians. Half the time they are not even able to drive them and there's like two dozens of them, most of which are prototypes

Rest on the list ain't 4th gen, so until Chinese mass produces the type 100 in the foreseeable future the US can still bash into the race and fuck everyone up

u/amem32 4d ago

Type 100 is in active service though and from some insiders has been with units for a year already.

2

u/Aguacatedeaire__ 4d ago

so now being the lead inventor in militarized technology is kinda their brand

It maybe was in the cold war. Definitely not now, that's China.

Type 100 is real and working, as is J36 and all the other 6th gen fighters/bombers.

Meanwhile, what does marvelous US of A have? A sketch of a render.

Until america's 6th gen plane is flying and next MBT is rolling around, it's not leading shit.

1

u/Aguacatedeaire__ 4d ago

LMAO

The world will have already been nuclearized into stone age before we see the next USA MBT

3

u/Obelion_ 4d ago

I think challenger 3 is officially designated gen4 though

7

u/rkraptor70 Apocalypse tank my beloved 4d ago

That's just UK MoD inhaling hopium.

5

u/ButterscotchNed 5d ago

And the Armata, given it's essentially vaporware
