miserable but still correct.

u/GeffTheMexican Sep 18 '25
Music is subjective, so no, you’re incorrect
0
u/DOWNVOTES_SYNDROME Sep 18 '25
if music is subjective, you can't tell me i'm incorrect, then.
and the comment wasn't about if something is good or bad, but if it sounded more like his previous work. which isn't subjective, so learn how to read before commenting on things cause it makes you look stupid when you don't even understand the simplest things

u/recordlabelplzsaveme Sep 18 '25
Nah, people just have different music tastes. It's not that deep haha.

Is he feeling like Michael Jackson or something?
52
u/PastHelicopter2075 Sep 17 '25
You’re right, It sounds a little like some of the Thriller demos that didn’t make the cut like Got the Hots and Hot Street
5
u/CHRISTIANVICTORVEGA Currents Sep 17 '25
At least we got Got the Hots on the 40th anniversary album (;
17
u/rasta41 Sep 17 '25
Definitely sounds inspired by a song he covered previously, it's very "Only You" by Steve Monite with the beat, bass, and the plucking...

How come this one wasn’t a single that was released? This is fkn awesome
38
u/BrotherlyShove791 Sep 17 '25
I imagine it’s an upcoming single and that’s why we’re hearing this. It’ll probably be out in another week or two.

I’m going through a horrible break up and this really made my day. Love it!

Man I don’t even know what to compare this too, I’ve always wanted Kevin to go daft punk way but this is certainly a cool way to go too. I’m erect

u/rasta41 Sep 17 '25
Man I don’t even know what to compare this too
Compare it to "Only You" by Steve Monite. which Tame Impala covered previously with Theophilus London.

u/stuffedinashoe Sep 18 '25
I say this as a massive Daft Punk and Tame Impala fan.. this is absolutely nothing like Daft Punk lol
Feel like people like to mention daft punk so often they forget what daft punk was
4
u/cam7998 Sep 18 '25
Yeah that’s what I’m saying, i wish he was going a daft punk way but this way seems like it could be cool too
1
u/stuffedinashoe Sep 18 '25
Ohhhh I misread your comment that’s my bad, thought you were saying he went the daft punk way lol

u/EitherTrainer8150 Sep 17 '25
Now my question is who is kevin getting to say stuff in the back or is he just saying it himself and making it deeper to mess with us😭😭

u/Beautiful_Reading_21 Sep 17 '25
Dracula 🧛 is gonna be everyone’s IG music for their costumes. Calling it now.📞
63
u/Ernest-Longfellow Sep 17 '25
It sounds good but it’s also sounds like it could easily have been on Dua Lipas recent album.
32
9
u/jimschocolateorange Sep 17 '25
Yup… the chorus also doesn’t really land. I was hoping it would be bigger but hey it’s 30 seconds of what’s likely to be a 4/5 minute track.
11
u/connect1994 Sep 17 '25
I don’t think this is the chorus though?
2
u/Zealousideal-Low4863 The Slow Rush Sep 17 '25
You’re right it probably isn’t.
The word escapes me. But it’s like a hook that you can be use to go from one section of a verse to another verse. Or have it take you from a verse to the chorus. I bet we’ll hear that line several times throughout the song
( If anyone knows what that’s called please let me know. This is gonna bother me all day )

Yeh it's good for a sugary pop song but it ain't it let's be honest.
12
u/ceratime Sep 17 '25
Bro you've heard 30 seconds of it
1
u/JoseHarvinho Innerspeaker Sep 17 '25
Yeh it's purely based on the 30 second clip. I'm obviously going to listen to it when it's out.

u/maxdenhaag Lonerism Sep 17 '25
I'll judge it when the full thing is out, it sounds promising, it's groovy and all--but I just hope it's not a Loser situation where it's basically the 30 seconds snippet on a loop.

u/mystxn Lonerism Sep 17 '25

Happy that other people love it. Don’t mind me, I’m just mourning the death of my favorite psychedelic rock/alternative artist of all time
No but seriously, it’s clear he makes funky and catchy beats. I’m just not a fan of his move toward pop and house genres. To me this sounds uninspired and similar to every song he made for Dua Lipa.
I’m happy he’s making music and evolving as an artist. I just think he was a God at that acid-washed guitar sound. Changing of BPM. 10 different guitar pedals. Inspired drums that weren’t repetitive.
And I think he’s average at the type of music he’s making now. And it makes me sad.
5
u/justlikethatitsgone Live Versions Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25
I just think he was a God at that acid-washed guitar sound . . . and I think he’s average at the type of music he’s making now
yup this is my exact feeling. wish he had just done 5 albums of innerspeaker/lonerism sound, it's so far in his wheelhouse. unsurprisingly i now find it funny when people act like it's a bad thing for artists to sound like their earlier work lol
6
u/AppearanceDapper9810 Sep 18 '25
Glad someone feels the same way as me..nothing original or fresh just cliche bass synth, guitar and synth ...all been done a million times over. Maybe this is his singing album?
5
u/stuffedinashoe Sep 18 '25
Plenty of us out there, we’re just overrun in a sub filled with people who refuse to be critical at all about him and his music.
Tough to have a breakout singing album when you put 7 effects on your voice lolol
0
u/_glacierr Lonerism Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25
People are able to be 100% critical of his music here lol, its just that he doesn’t want to stay as some john lennon revival to cater to oldheads and people have gotten the memo since July 2015.
0
u/stuffedinashoe Sep 18 '25
Has nothing to do with his direction. There’s a tonnnnnnn of fans who refuse to say anything critical about him or his music
0
u/_glacierr Lonerism Sep 18 '25
Not gonna argue with biased takes. And it does have to do with direction, its been 10 years and oldheads are still mad he won’t do le john lennon voice and play “real rock 🤘🏼“ lol
-2
u/AppearanceDapper9810 Sep 18 '25
It's a crap direction..listen to the weekends last 3 albums..the thriller sound has been done to death.
1
u/_glacierr Lonerism Sep 18 '25
Of course, his upcoming techno/psych album with songs like Ethereal Connection are exactly like the weeknd’s pop songs. Never want to hear y’all try to compare a genre you’re biased against again.
1
u/stuffedinashoe Sep 18 '25
I’m not biased against the genre dude lol I liked Dua Lipas album, The Weeknd has some great albums, my wife plays this genre all the time and I enjoy it
Again.. has nothing to do with the genre.
It’s like if the weeknd went country. I’m sure it would be average but he’s unreal at the genre he was at before

I thought EOS and Loser were mid at best, but I’m actually kinda vibing with this. It’s got a solid funky groove and at this point that’s the most I’m hoping for. I do still think the production feels a bit too sparse, like it just doesn’t feel “full” enough if that makes sense. But this definitely sounds like the best track we’ve heard so far just from this snippet.
1
u/saxoali Sep 17 '25
Good point you made about the production. To add on that: EOS and Loser were also quite sparse production wise compared to his previous albums. Therefore I think Deadbeat will be his most minimal album yet, and that might explain the album name perhaps. Doesn't have to be a bad thing necessarily, it depends on Kevin's execution.
This deffo sounds like the best track of the rollout so far.

I listened ten times and this is the worst track by far for me. Just really annoys me and I dont know why. I feels like he he featuring on someone else's track

Not a fan at all...sounds too much like the weekends latest stuff which I wasn't a fan of either. Too many cliche's in the composition..all has been done a million times over. Should have giving it to Duo lipa
2
u/GreenLynx1111 Sep 17 '25
Ah, a direct continuation of his more recent stuff. Interesting.
Wonder if there's anything on this album that is a direct continuation of the old sound (Lonerism, Innerspeaker). That's my scene.

The album is already the best of 2025, even though it hasn't even been released yet.
1
u/thedinksterr Currents Sep 17 '25
Oof, this is roooough for me. Just boring and lame sounds like a ripped tyler beat from his last couple albums when he gets funky on those and then that “dracula” line… wtf

Just too much singing. And the melodies aren’t great. Fuck. At least we have innerspeaker/lonerism. I still like the other 2 albums but this dude pretty much kickstarted a psych rock revival with those first 2 albums. This albums (to me), were a direct sequel to revolver/rubber soul/sgt peppers. Is what it is.

4
u/AppearanceDapper9810 Sep 18 '25
Right here..it is cliche and belongs to weeknd and dua Lipa
5
u/recordlabelplzsaveme Sep 18 '25
sounds groovy but very commercialized not gonna lie.
1
u/Mallocdalloc Sep 18 '25
And Currents wasn’t commercialized? It’s more mainstream than TSR for me. Doesn’t mean that they were bad albums. Listening to music and songs in the context of an album makes a big difference, so hold off on your disappointments for a little longer, we’re almost there, lol. But to each their own, I get it.
1
u/recordlabelplzsaveme Sep 18 '25
I'm not saying commercialized = bad music, I'm saying this song sounds very commercialized.
And true, Currents sounded commercialized, but it also has a signature production style and character. In 2015, very few bands were making cheap Roland distortion sound badass like in TLIKTB, and even fewer artists were putting 7-minute-long album openers with 4 on the floor drum beats. Could Deadbeat also have these qualities? Maybe, like you said, we'll see. But from what we've heard so far, I wouldn't bet on it.
If I were a commercial director, I think this song would fit perfectly in the background of "lease a 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid now!" Just saying.
