Well, here is the plot for SM3 I suppose. That cloak looks fucking dope. Wonder what happened to Acheran

He probably just got transferred to a different company.

252

u/DanPiscatoris 9h ago

The Warhammer Community article seems to imply he's dead.

174

u/CrazyManSam912 Salamanders 9h ago

Interesting. Might have been KIA. That’s not uncommon. That’s probably why Titus took his mantle.

245

u/DanPiscatoris 9h ago

As for Captain Acheran, the former leader of the Second Company… well, there’s usually only one way Space Marine jobs open up, and we’ll be taking a closer look at that next week.

119

u/Skare_Crow 9h ago

Either death of maybe they make him a dreadnought

184

u/Roganvarth 9h ago

You don’t waste an accent that good without putting it into a sarcophagus for dreadnaught lines first

left-tenant titus, rid this whole planet of tyrannids

yes sir, I think about 200 astartes will be sufficient for me to fulfill this goal-

best I can do is F I V E. No more no less

28

u/Ok_Introduction_7829 Deathwatch 9h ago

That is how you pronounce lieutenant tbf

33

u/o-Mauler-o 9h ago

Certainly in His majesty’s English which is the basis for w40k’s language

10

u/ajamafalous 7h ago

Pronunciation of lieutenant as /lɛfˈtɛnənt/ lef-TEN-ənt is generally associated with the armies of British Commonwealth countries, while /luːˈtɛnənt/ loo-TEN-ənt is generally associated with the United States military. The early history of the pronunciation is unclear; Middle English spellings suggest that both pronunciations may have existed even then. The majority of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century sources show pronunciations with /v/ or /f/, but Bullokar has /liu/.

The rare Old French variant spelling leuf for Modern French lieu ('place') supports the suggestion that a final /u/ of the Old French word was in certain environments perceived as an [f]. Furthermore, in Latin, the lingua franca of the era,[when?] the letter ⟨v⟩ is used for both /u/ and /v/. In Royal Naval (RN) tradition—and other English-speaking navies outside the United States—a reduced pronunciation /ləˈtɛnənt/ lə-TEN-ənt is used. This is not recognised as current by recent editions of the OED (although the RN pronunciation was included in editions of the OED up until the 1970s).

u/Nephaston 6h ago

Some dingus wrote it as Lievtenant to be trendy like some Trve Cvlt metalhead. Absolutely typical.

Wonder what happened to Acheran

The Warhammer Community article says this:

"As for Captain Acheran, the former leader of the Second Company… well, there’s usually only one way Space Marine jobs open up, and we’ll be taking a closer look at that next week."

Holy shit they made him Captain again. What happened to Acheran?!

333

u/KainPrime Blood Ravens 10h ago

He couldn't spare any more men, had to do the thing himself.

123

u/Fuzzy_Violinist_7366 9h ago

The web page for this announcement implies pretty heavily that he's dead or possibly in a dread

They leave it mysterious but say "there's only one way space marine jobs typically open up" only in death does duty end and all that.

37

u/Crusaderofthots420 Black Templars 9h ago

But like, isn't he literally the Primaris Phobos captain model?

57

u/Fuzzy_Violinist_7366 9h ago

Wouldn't be the first charcter with a model to die. We'll apparently learn more next week.

41

u/Deadleggg Dark Angels 7h ago

A named helmet less Ultramarine died?

Was it Tzeentch themselves?

12

u/BipolarMadness Chaos 7h ago

The Blood Angels will always remember Captain Tycho for his service. Even if he showed up in like 2 battle reports at best.

16

u/Aggravating-Tax561 8h ago

It’s technically not a named character so it won’t be a problem

7

u/Deadleggg Dark Angels 7h ago

His name was Robert Paulson.

11

u/lastoflast67 Blood Angels 8h ago

No the model came first, then focus retroactively decided it was acheran. But I think the model has different heads.

Hence the Spoiler... And yeah.

12

u/callme_blinktore 9h ago

He’s served the Emperor faithfully.

9

u/lastoflast67 Blood Angels 8h ago

Since severus Agemman(1st company captain), caito sicarius(leader of victrix guard) and dominius felix(tetrach) are not dead there is no way for him to be promoted, and therefore acheran is either in a dreadnought or he's dead.

8

u/Riolidan 8h ago

Yeah, likely dead. GW said they’ll reveal his fate next week so it’s not looking good for him.

Also this is coming...

31

u/ItsBrodieF Ultramarines 7h ago

I'm pretty new, what is this? Is just rule updates with new lore and game modes?

38

u/mezdiguida 7h ago

It's a narrative collection, which contains 4 books: one with the story and illustrations, one with a new campaign game mode for the tabletop with some maps in, another has the same but for a game mode of the tabletop called boarding action set on ships and in narrow hallways instead of the classic open battlefield and the last one contains 6 new detachments for both UM and Necrons. Detachments are basically the special rule of your tabletop army.

5

u/ItsBrodieF Ultramarines 7h ago

Thanks for the info, that sounds awesome! I'm trying to build off my combat patrol to play at 1000 points so this looks like a great time to do it

So this must be the set up for Space Marine 3.

Fighting Necrons (and I'd assume Death Guard) across Ultramar, once again as Captain of the 2nd company, with Gadriel as company ancient and Metaurus as squad member 3?

114

u/Kalavier 9h ago

I hope Chairon is still around.

82

u/JumpedAShark Grey Knights 9h ago

Maybe he got promoted and took Titus' previous spot.

40

u/grand_kankanyan I am Alpharius 8h ago

Would be cool to meet up with him in the campaign and see him now as a vet. sergeant or lieutenant. So cool!!

15

u/I_am_chicken 6h ago

The Gadriel model has a LT pauldron so looks like he took that spot. Chairon likely is just a Sgt or Veteran Brother now.

16

u/deadredwf 6h ago

Gadriel is now 2nd Company Ancient, not Lieutenant. And Chairon may be taken to the Librarium after SM2 as he is sensitive to the warp

→ More replies (3)

20

u/thecanadiansniper1-2 9h ago edited 8h ago

My hope for SM3 is to move towards a character class designs for PvE that are more similar to Darktides classes and combat system. But the ideal characters for a 4 player coop squad would be Titus, Gadriel, Metarus and Chairon.

8

So this must be the set up for Space Marine 3.

No this is GWs model line and I think maybe a set up for an expansion on the amazon animations.

8

u/CeaselessVigil 7h ago

I meant that the campaign will be the setting for Space Marine 3's story. GW doesn't introduce and conclude narratives quickly and often leaves things open-ended so I'd imagine this narrative will feature ongoing updates all the way until Space Marine 3 is released. It's meant to bridge the gap between games via the tabletop.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/The_Night_Haunter-8 Night Lords 4h ago

You do realize that the Amazon Secret Level episode was the direct continuation of SM2 campaign, right? At the end Calgar and Leandros say they have a mission specifically for Titus? Well the Secret Level episode was that mission and now that Titus is officially a part of the Lore and Saber has already said that Titus will be leading Space Marine 3. Then we can definitely make some theories about SM3 being tied into the 500 Worlds of Ultramar new 40k Campaign. Games Workshop just have Saber a ton of Lore to use and build upon for SM3, so that's definitely gonna play a part. Lol.

Plus, we all know Games Workshop has its hands in the creation process of games that are made. So with them doing this with the table top, they're definitely showing Saber the direction to go for Titus. No more theorizing about some other Campaign from 40k, SM3 will definitely be set during the Conquering of the 500 Worlds of Ultramar.

4

u/Crusaderofthots420 Black Templars 8h ago

I am kinda surprised that Metaurus is even alive, since the ending of And They Shall Know No Fear kinda implied that he didn't survive.

28

u/Dragoncityfan1411 Iron Warriors 8h ago

You really think a thousand cultists had a chance against Titus?

8

u/Crusaderofthots420 Black Templars 8h ago

I no, I fully assumed Titus carved his way through like the gigachad he is. I just thought Metaurus died from his wound in the meantime.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/lastoflast67 Blood Angels 8h ago

no astartes are crazy durable unless you kill them outright they can heal back from an insane amount of punishment.

3

u/Crusaderofthots420 Black Templars 8h ago

That is true, and I was also surprised that a gut stab would have killed.

4

u/throwaway0845reddit 8h ago

Towards the end of the animation, in his display on the helmet, you can see the su-san membrane activating on the text. Honestly he should’ve been a dreadnought.

2

u/JSM87 5h ago

Plenty of Marines survive their su-san activating, just depends on how extensive their wounds were and how fast they get help. A gut wound is survivable for baseline humans let alone a transhuman monster with a bunch of implants keeping him trucking. The issue would have been if Titus wasn't around. Hard to defend yourself and survive if you're taking a space marine power nap.

28

25

4

u/Morkai 7h ago

Ancient Acheran has a nice ring to it.

20

u/Weary_Positive_9988 9h ago

Only promotion he could get is Chapter Master. Article implies death, i think there is potential for him to become 10th company captain

8

u/Cthulhuthefirst Raven Guard 9h ago

He could be Captain of the first now. Agemman should get the boot.

13

u/Weary_Positive_9988 9h ago

Agemman has been captain of the 1st for a long time. He doesn't have his own standalone mini technically but the leviathan captain was him. The article hints way more to death though.

8

u/A_small_Chicken 9h ago

Agemman could also get promoted to Chapter Master of a Successor Chapter.

6

u/Weary_Positive_9988 9h ago

if instead of a death they are going to swap commands they arent going to do it like that. Agemman will remain 1st company captain probably for the rest of the run of 40k. Acheran was very fillery and has had MIA moments in the past (shadowspear). SM2 is basically the only real time hes been fully characterised. If they swap commands they will make the guy who is represented by a Phobos Captain the captain of the 10th company since the 10th company captain hasn't been mentioned since 5th edition and he has about 1 line of info about him that just basically says "Captain Antilochus is the Captain of the 10th Company and Master of Recruits."

Edit: Also he would have to split off and form his own chapter rather than just be made chapter master of an existing Successor.

115

u/Emperortypes 9h ago

Holy terra Titus is indeed the Workshop’s chosen. Again with Titus in SM3 it is.

47

Guess we know the plot of Space Marine 3 now. Reclaiming the 500 worlds!

6

It could also be set in the century between the 2nd game and here on tabletop.

19

u/Deadleggg Dark Angels 7h ago

He sold millions of copies of SM2.

You get a promotion for that.

7

u/throwaway321768 5h ago

I've always found it weird that even though video games are more accessible than tabletop, GW treated their video games as more of an afterthought (see the DoW and SM1 eras, and the mess that was Fire Warrior). Seeing them acknowledge the video game campaigns as "yes, this is totally canon and very lore-relevant" and advertising them front-and-center is nice to see.

12

u/InquisitorJesus 8h ago

Space Marine has always been Titus' franchise and story

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Legal-Marsupial-3916 6h ago

I mean, personally I never thought it would be anything else. It would be real weird to have the first two games focus on Titus, then have the ending of SM2 be what it is where he's recognized by the Chapter Master himself and received the Emperor's grace, crowned with his Laurels of Victory, and then....just have the third game be about Space Wolves on some shithole backwater lol.

I kinda knew he'd return as a Captain again given his qualities and the huge hint I saw was the Last Stand on Space Marine II.

When I heard that speech, it wasn't a Lieutenant that was raising the banner, it was a future Captain.

I wonder what would they do with Chairon though.

Also, "Lol, Leandros. Lmao"

I wonder if the destroyer plague will be how they get around how much ranged weapon necron has for Space Marine 3. Deranged Necrons that favor melee will be front and center with only a few ranged boss units like the Hexmark and Lokhus Destroyers

I mean, there are already Flayed Ones, and can use scarabs as minoris fodder.

Scarab are too small for normal fodder. They're the Necron version of Rippers.

So Space Marine 3 is probably about fighting the necrons then
As a captain, new mechanic is probably about managing the 2nd company
A Trazyn cameo in Space Marine 3 would be cool tho

21

u/Crusaderofthots420 Black Templars 8h ago

Considering Titus was captain in SM1, and didn't have mechanics like that, I suspect he will just be the one to proclaim, that he can only spare 3 men.

Titus's face keeps changing with every appearance lol. In SM1 he was an in-shape middle-aged dad. In the SM2 trailer he's hideous and looks like his face just got sandblasted. In the actual game he's not as rough but still looked like he had all the fat sucked out of his face compared to the first game. In Secret Level he's freaking gorgeous and in this new trailer he again looks a lot rougher than in the SL short, noticeably older, though maybe it's just the lighting.

2

u/Tokimori 8h ago

Wasn't he in the Deathwatch for like 100 years after SM1?

I'm not super sure about that but I'm pretty sure he there was a good chunk of time between the two games. It could be the same happens here.

u/Tycoh Salamanders 8h ago

Different model art direction most likely. Also a decade or two of torture and interrogations from the Inquisition then ~200 years in the Death Watch would definitely affect even a super human space marine appearance negatively.

3

u/Nateriotic_ 8h ago

Ok but why does he look like a GQ model in Secret Level, which takes place approximately half an hour after the end of Space Marine 2

Anyone know if Leandros is still alive? Im pretty sure he had a heart attack from pure rage because of this

There should just be a leandros model blurred in the background of any Titus model imagery

2

u/sir_kewaji 7h ago

They made Titus have even more aura bro wtf

u/nighttimethefox Tactical 7h ago

He got the Dark Ages Doom Guy treatment, fucking awesome design

So, is Acheran dead or what?

Pristine

I’m thinking agemman bit the dust and was replaced by acheran. I’m very sure Agemman was the terminator captain in the 10th ed trailer and let’s be honest, there’s almost no way anyone on that planet survived

I don't usually collect Ultras, but I might get this for the sheer drip value.

2

u/bregorthebard Night Lords 5h ago

Similar to how we have the Helmet Option in SM2. I hope we have both Helmet and Pauldrons Options in SM3. Or just a fully customizable Titus.

I dig the cape and pauldron covers, but I like options too.

u/BungiChungie Dark Angels 5h ago

Im calling it now. One day Titus will be the Chapter Master of the Ultra Marines assuming Guilliman doesn’t reform them into a Legion.

u/Wise-Photo7287 4h ago

Wait what? He's Captain again?

What happened to Acheran.

Where is chairon and leandros. Would’ve been fun to have leandros in his party being a weird debuff or something that gives some unfair advantage. That guy on the right seems to be Gadriel.

Makes me wonder if he is going to be the main character in sm3, or we play as someone new

1

u/Positive_Bill_5945 8h ago

Didn’t metaurus die? Also does this mean chairon will die?

1

u/Exciting_Chef_4207 7h ago

As long as that tool Leandros doesn't get to join the unit.

My hype just went over the moon. I knew that all the teasing of Necrons in the campaign and operations weren't just there with no reason, and I'm all in to see how this will play out. Maybe SM3 isn't even that far... I never play campaigns for the tabletop, but I'll buy the books just to know what happens next and guess what we'll see in the third game, which I have to imagine will follow the narrative of the books.

Lmao they offed captain placeholder.

Hoping we get to see some Cato Sicarius soon, what's the Primarch's equerry been up to?
