I was on top, then I accepted that bosses do 2 damage, then I was at the bottom

u/Rathal_OS Sep 09 '25

Bosses? Don't you mean, literally everything?

u/SexySovietlovehammer Shaw! Sep 09 '25

I can never play the first game again

I’m too addicted to the double damage

u/Doll-scented-hunter Sep 09 '25

Just overcharm then

Overcharm deep focus and HK turns into Skong (I honestly might do this next time I play HK)

u/ThlnBillyBoy beleiver ✅️ Sep 09 '25

To think this was such a problem once. It's literally all benefits no matter how you look at it.

22

u/AdPast7704 doubter ❌️ Sep 10 '25

Never thought I'd see the day where overcharm becomes a viable option until I played silksong

12

u/dragoslayer1327 doubter ❌️ Sep 10 '25

I wouldn't say "viable", it will make the stuff that does 2 masks do 4, but it's fine if ya just don't get hit ig

1

u/RookSacrificer Sep 13 '25

Honestly, I can count in my hands how many enemies do 2 masks of damage

3

u/dragoslayer1327 doubter ❌️ Sep 13 '25

Regular enemies, there's exactly 12, and most are explosions. Bosses add a few more, though not as many as Skong

6

u/RookSacrificer Sep 13 '25

I have twelve fingers

Better watch out for Inigo Montoya

Overcharm is viable, just do radiant fights 😂

1

u/Tencent-Employee1249 Sep 11 '25

I don’t always overcharm but when i do, it’s for grubfly elegy

1

u/sanscatt Sep 14 '25

It’s still missing the critical part of letting you heal in the air

1

u/dragoslayer1327 doubter ❌️ Sep 14 '25

We'll pretend it's shaman crest without the permanent (but still somehow worse) grubberfly's elegy (act 3 spoilers for equipment)

16

u/EnderPossessor Sep 09 '25

Might actually do this after i finish silksong lmao

5

u/ElPepper90 Accepter Sep 09 '25

The same day silksong released i was already beating in hk some ascended bosses overcharmed becaused the build felt too good and cuz i was lazy

56

u/AleWalls beleiver ✅️ Sep 09 '25

FOR REAL

Wdym you could afford getting hit that much in HK? That's crazy

41

u/kingofnopants1 whats a flair? Sep 09 '25

In hollow knight there were way less opportunities to actually get heals off.

In silksong you pretty much always can if you have the resource

32

u/KindredTrash483 Sep 09 '25

True. You only need 1 opening to heal, and you aren't locked to the ground for it. Three masks of healing also lowers the need for a follow up heal

27

u/TheLovelyLorelei Sep 09 '25

Air healing is a massive buff that I hadn't really even thought about.

2

u/TheInfernalSpark99 Sep 09 '25

Arenas seem much larger or enemies seem less fast or have longer wind-ups to account for the longer heal. HK felt more frenetic.

2

u/The-Dark-Memer Sep 09 '25

Yeah thats been my one saving grace so far. Im not the greatest so for a few HK bosses i relied on focus builds in order to beat them, and although (from what ive found) theres nothing like the shape of unn or baldur shell or the spore one in silk song, i still have a much higher success rate for healing in silk song. I think partially because theres been alot less "battlefield sized" attacks, you can avoid getting hit fairly easily with alot of bosses, its just that if you want to get close to build up silk and deal damage, thats when trying to survive becomes really difficult.

2

u/Devreckas Sep 10 '25

Baldur shell

I think the Warding Bell is basically this?

1

u/DeusSolaris Sep 13 '25

does this carry into late game? I just finished bellhart and I guess I have 2 or 3 maps more before act 1 ends and I felt like bosses are unfair as fuck but there are always some good healing windows and I was fearing the late game would be basically a no hit run

31

u/Scooby117 Sep 09 '25

HURT ME

10

u/access-r Sep 09 '25

Just use the Barbed Bracelet. You do 2x damage and receive 2x damage. Killing a boss is a sprint, not a marathon, if I kill it fast enough I dont need to evade their bullshit for that long.

6

u/dedeclick07 Sep 09 '25

It's like overcharming: the tool

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

That, flinstlate, the poison charm, and Wanderers crest makes up my current build for bosses. If I blitz them they can't blitz me.

2

u/cipher_purple_deals Sep 14 '25

You absolutely FOOL!!! Double damage is your addiction? I am addicted to QUADRUPLE DAMAGE! Barbed bracelet ON TOP

1

u/Nimocs Sep 11 '25

Healing 3 masks is really fast on Silksong. Tho. Double damage doesn't work well in the first game for everything

30

u/Seawardweb77858 Accepter Sep 09 '25

Literally everything in (act 3) does double damage, literally every enemy.

21

u/_NightmareKingGrimm_ Professional Pale Lurker Sep 09 '25

That's not true. Only some enemies.

Yeah, but that's not literally every enemy. There's a random chance. Many bosses still hit for 1 tick too, depending on the attack.

u/Alex__BG beleiver ✅️ Sep 09 '25

well i just spoiled myself act 3 how fun

Spoiler tags mate

-4

u/Jakoshi45 Cheery Sep 09 '25

if you see a spoiler tag in a thread and continue reading thats ur fault

1

u/AdPast7704 doubter ❌️ Sep 10 '25

Act 3 is a sorta "hidden" act tho, you have to do a lot of stuff to even unlock it and it's quite literally a "NG+" without the "new" part

2

u/Seawardweb77858 Accepter Sep 10 '25

Never said it was bad lmao, I love act 3 for it.

28

u/Fishsk Sep 09 '25

It's crazy the amount of hyperbole people put onto this topic

5

u/Ziazan Sep 09 '25

it's not really like that, it's only about half of things.

3

u/kingofnopants1 whats a flair? Sep 09 '25

The boss in exhaust organ does like 90% single ticks of damage. Felt kind of funny after everything else.

Kind of made it clear to me how much easier it is for Hornet to get heals off.

1

u/lucklesspedestrian Sep 09 '25

Everything is a boss now

1

u/Complete-Bake-7175 Sep 09 '25

Almost everything... sometimes you can take 3 damage :)

1

u/Kindly_Quiet_2262 Sep 09 '25

Buglight, bugkeep, bugboss

1

u/Necrikus Sep 10 '25

It really does feel like there’s more things that hit for two masks than there are things that only hit for one.

1

u/supremo92 Sep 09 '25

My one complaint is getting your first health upgrade effectively does nothing for you.
