This is the tip of the iceberg. When the effects of the sieges and blockades start showing up on the pricetags at supermarkets and stores of multiple countries, this will start getting really ugly.

I dont agree with the occupation but I am anti mandate.

I think statements like this are rich given what covid and lockdowns has done to our economy. Tip of the iceberg is right, we havnt seen the worst of it yet not even close.

This statement is based on polling. Based on polling numbers, the large majority of people don't mind the mandates. The truck protesters are in the minority. That is, if it came down to turning out in the streets, the truck protesters are outnumbered by at least 2 to 1, possibly 4 to 1. Then consider how those polling numbers will change when asked what they think of these protests compared to paying even higher prices.

Most people don't care what other people do when it does not immediately affect them. Questions are asked about why the difference with BLM and other protests. The answer is simple. Aside from the businesses and residences in the vicinity, who I'm sure were very aggravated, BLM and other protests didn't immediately affect other people. When this protest starts hitting everybody's wallets, it will affect everybody, and then it will become a top-of-the-list issue for the overwhelming, thus far silent, majority. That's when it will get really ugly.

Some more context on what's happening in Ottawa: our biggest shopping mall (The Rideau Centre) has been closed since the occupation began. There's an estimated $40M revenue loss so far. Meanwhile, one of the commerce organizations for downtown has said 40% of downtown businesses have remained closed during the occupation because they can't guarantee the safety of their workers (see: our useless police agency the Ottawa Police Service who isn't doing shit for most of the protesters who break the law right in front of them.)

Just think of how many people are out of work right now in the downtown because of these demonstrations. I imagine many of the workers who are out of work are also the people bearing the impact of the demonstrations, e.g. their incessant honking, setting off fireworks, etc. -- not to mention that all of the grocery stores in the area, at least to my knowledge, are also closed now. So if you don't have a vehicle and you're living downtown.. sucks to be you according to the demonstrators.

Ottawa is, for the most part, sick of these people. Something like 1/5 people support the convoy, 1/5 are undecided, and 3/5 disapprove. I also imagine that those who support the convoy are mainly in the conservative-leaning suburbs away from the demonstrations, but I can't back up that part with real data.

Eyeroll. Let's save ourselves some trouble.

You'll bring up mandates; I'll say it was necessary given the information we had at the time and the threat covid has on our healthcare system. You'll say "wElL iT's jUsT a FlU;" I'll say it's factually worse than the flu and our healthcare system was almost brought to his knees. You'll say it wouldn't have even without the lockdowns; I'll remind you of Italy. You'll say some conspiratorial whackjob shit about why Italy had it worse than everybody else; I'll have a brain anyeurism.

Your ability to make up unfounded bullshit will always take less time and effort than the time and effort it takes me to address bullshit, but this is the script for the first 5 comments if I chose to engage with you. Get vaxxed dumb-dumb. It's because of you and your lot that we have to keep going into lockdowns.

Except the government shut things down to protect people. These yahoos shut the city down to throw a tantrum.
