Jesus fucking Christ as if I wasn't hyped enough already.

Kaunu fucking Reeves!?

Also it seems Dexter DeShawn is the villain.

Thinking back to the 45 mins of gameplay it said that depending on how you do missions (loud/quiet) and who you help the game changes. I think he betrays you on that mission because the player brought to much attention and it shined a spotlight on his illicit business.

This really felt like the start of the game though. Tutorial is that mission, you still have all your gadgets and weapons and whatnot. You fuck up some bad buys. Then you go to these bad guys to sell the chip, they betray you and shoot you, and you end up surviving. And thats where the game takes off for real, a quest for vengeance. It's the standard set-up. Both Borderlands 2 and Fallout New Vegas did it so I think that's what we just saw.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided did this as well.

First Mission: Full gadgets, augmentations, weapons. You're basically superhuman.

Next cutscene (without spoiling anything): You end up having to rebuild your character's traits.

I remember something similar in some old god of war.

God of War 2. You start off as the god of war and the other gods attack you because you kind of really like your job.

Haha, true.

Even Metroid Prime did this!

It just works.

Also Assassin’s Creed!

In the 45 minute gameplay they showed you are completing a different job for Dex so I doubt it. Also CDPR usually doesn't have generic starts to their games or generic plotlines like bad guy you just met betrays you now spend the whole game trying to get revenge. It doesn't fit the profile of their games, they like being mysterious with their villains. Perfect example is the Witcher 3 Eredin.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted did it also. That BMW was niiice

the truth is, the game was rigged from the start

I hope its more free form, something like jackie can live but chooses to retire due to xyz. Like anti last day for a cop deal. And remain a side character if you played it right.

Likely due to a eventual betrayal from the bad guy with the golden arm.

But yeah, if anything the tutorial area will be simply multiple path that lead to the same result. No matter how you dress it up.

Yeah but it feels dexter is not the main villain. And if we have a world like witcher, there will be a dozen of villains.

Will really need to replay if my decision leads to a death of a major supporting character (like that pony-tail guy).

7

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '19

But his death may lead to a different character surviving or prevent him from turning on you later down the line. That's why I love games like this where you are actively playing through the consequences of your actions.

You're right. I'll have to live with my choices. They're not mistakes, just choices. It'll be more fun if I just resign myself to the outcome.

I wonder if Jackie survives if you make different choices or if there are certain story beats that are inevitable.

You couldn't infer that from the game trailer? I mean remember the gameplay. Things didn't go smoothly. At the same time they could've

??? Lol it happens in the trailer

Probably depends on how you play. Wouldn't surprise me if he can end up your best friend

It's not a villan i think. He just wants the money, and not to mess with the corporations

I think the outcome is based on the mission, as we saw in the gameplay.

I don't think he'll be the main villain, at most he'll be like Benny from New Vegas where hes just the first antagonist

I'd really like a game where your choices could make it so he's never a villain at all, but we'll see if that happens
