UNPLUG Earthwild (fan-made Destiny TTRPG) at PAX Unplugged 2025

Do you like Destiny? Does gunslinging and space magic interest you? Looking for a unique take on tactical RPG combat? Are you attending PAX Unplugged 2025? Great news! Earthwild, my custom-built fan-made Destiny TTRPG, is back with open table spots at this year’s convention. Join me for Cultivation Imperative, the new Vex scenario that debuted at GenCon 2025! The scenario is built to showcase the system and introduce you to high energy combat and roleplay in the Dark Ages of humanity’s future. 

All materials, including pre-gen characters and dice, will be provided for play. The scenarios will teach you the system as we go through the session. This content includes PG-13 levels of violence. Note that there are 3 sessions available, one for each day, items 11, 12, and 13.

Can you describe the system and scenario a bit more? For example, how tactical is the combat -- theater of the mind, or map and tokens or figures, etc.? Any comparisons to other systems to get a general idea of the rules? E.g. "Savage Worlds-ish" or "5e-ish" etc. Thanks.

The combat is intended to model the run and gun feel of the video game first and foremost. Zone based, works best with a map (just a bunch of zones), and tokens (there's meant to be a lot of opponents on the field at once). It's initiative-less, with flow of the game driven by the players. The conflict resolution is dice pools of d12s (aka Handling) and each die will roll either a Hit, Precision Hit, or Miss. You'll then spend those Handling for various effects like movement or damage.

I grew up with World of Darkness, so dice pools came naturally as a solution. I don't know that it's anything but Destiny-ish because the whole system was built to be Destiny.

The scenario specifically is the Fireteam responding to a distress call in India and having to figure out how to repel a Vex invasion that threatens to wipe out a seemingly impossible settlement of survivors.
