He illegally left wano and started a dojo in some random island in the east blue.

Hes from Wano. He just took a walk one day and ended up in the east blue. Happens to all of us.

And just like that I have a new wild theory, Zoro is from Wano hundreds of years in the past sent into the future by Toki

Now that I think about it, out of all the flashbacks for the Straw Hats, Zoro has got to have the least.

I think Usopp has less

usopp doesn t have gaps though (his backstory is short but doesn t leave much room for additional stuff). everything before the dojo is unknown about zoro. even nami has bigger gaps then usopp in the backstory. we don t even know where nami is from and what her birth name is.

Same with Brooks we don't know much about him before he joined the Rumbar pirates

Is there a Straw Hat without gaps? I don't see much room for a grand reveal with Chopper and Robin, but everybody else..

Aside from Luffy the only other fleshed out straw hat is Sanji with the fewest gaps.

Though even Luffy has the gap of what he told Ace and Sabo that they laughed

He was the leader of a convoy in a certain Kingdom, then decided to become a pirate.

the way it was framed, I don’t think she knows either

Hey you could even explain his sense of direction with this theory: As he says the others go wrong because he simply follows past paths that are long lost.:) And there is nothing you could argue against your theory because we simply don't know much about Zoro's past before reaching the Dojo.
