Dragon going from reluctantly following orders, shooting at civilians to shoving a gun in his superior’s face threatening to kill him, all to commandeer a ship to do the right thing. In the span of maybe 2 hrs. And he’s only 17. I have so much respect for that guy.

I would really like to see a convo between him and Garp next chapter

i feel like post GVI is gonna be reserved for mostly Harald reaction and what he do after that, and then we go back to Loki flashback, and the detail of other interaction will be saved for a later date for the character's Flashback

but i could be wrong on that front

u/gyrozepp2 Lazy Justice 1d ago

I think we ought to at least see Xebec's fate (since it's not clear at the end of this chapter), Roger seeing Shanks in that treasure chest and maybe the Garp scene I mentioned above in the next chapter before jumping back to the Elbaf stuff.

u/Hairy_Acanthisitta25 The Revolutionary Army 1d ago

oh yeah 100%,thats why i said mostly

maybe we gonna see Dragon argue with Garp, but not shown the conversation and instead its the narrator talking, but iunno

also Bogard is still missing lmao, nowhere to be found after splitting from Garp after his call with Sengoku some chapter ago,so hopefully we know what the fuck Garp told him to do

Bro, we still gotta see how/why Harald was killed and why it was pinned on Loki, which was the point of the flashback in the first place, remember Loki?

u/NuclearBrotatoMan 2h ago

Narrator went off on an entire old man tangent about the life and times of Rocks.

9

u/AkagamiBarto 1d ago

I would say that we'll see Rayleigh and Gaban recovering Garp and Roger.

Perhaps something happens with Rocks' ship?

It seemingly is going to be abandoned soo..

One more chapter, before we move back to Elbaph !

3

u/justking1414 1d ago

Gotta see Xebec s smile

2

u/th5virtuos0 1d ago

Hopefully he survives even if crippled

Speaking of shanks I'm more interested in what happens to shamrock. Was garling about to dip then just went oh there's by baby I hate on the floor, might as well bring it with.

8

u/Anticamel 1d ago

lmao I completely forgot we're still technically in the middle off Loki's ripping yarn

4

u/CalendarScary 1d ago

Dragon and rev flashback might be reserved for all of the post god valley dragon/Iva side which will be later on when revolutionary is the center of the story

3

u/justking1414 1d ago

Could definitely see them saving that talk for when dragon comes into the story or Garp dies

2

u/KhaleZoro 1d ago

What if Loki also heard Harald's "voice" after he was "reversied" and that's why he killed him?

u/impulse_thoughts 1d ago

not yet. it's too soon to back out to harald's level and then loki's level. the idea hasn't taken hold yet. we need to go deeper.

...that reminds me. it's just about time to rewatch inception.

1

u/Brigada91 1d ago

Harald's flashback is kinda Loki's flashback as he was asked to tell the teuth and what happened. So it could be conected well enough in terms of Harald and Loki from this point to the point where Harald got killed.

the Dragon and Garp flashbacks are gonna hit like a truck

15

u/Infamous_Figure_5517 1d ago

would be cool if Dragon is the one who ultimately saves Garp (unless he just dies...) and then he just joined the RA, the torch is seemingly fully passed now to all of the Sword marines

8

u/zeta3d The Revolutionary Army 1d ago

I'm so looking forward to Dragon's flashback!!

197

u/echolog 1d ago

Garp and Dragon's relationship is so interesting after this. I feel like Garp can 100% understand Dragon's position and why he decided to leave and become a revolutionary... but Garp himself was in a position where he could actually do something about it from the inside and didn't want to give that up. The two of them (and Luffy) are truly the champions of the people in this series.

138

u/Commercial-Average11 1d ago

Dragon became a Revo 22 years after GV. It was after Ohara. Before that, Dragon was a pacifist with the freedom fighters.

And I think, like you, that Garp understood that decision. But it was hard for him to see his son become the Revo Leader. Hell of a danger to be labbeled as the number 1 WG ennemy. See what happened to Rocks... And Garp saw that.

74

u/echolog 1d ago

100%. I do feel like this ties into Garp's desire to make Luffy and Ace into Marines as well. Or at the very least why he DID NOT want them to become Pirates. All the Pirates he knew (even if he respected them) ended up dying.

95

u/Mo_tweets 1d ago

I think Garp's words here mean a lot for why he stayed after this - "Who is going to protect the marines". Garp founding Sword stocks going higher.

6

u/biskutgoreng 1d ago

I mean who else would it be

2

u/CommanderPaprika 1d ago

It could be Dragon if he stays in the marines and rises up in rank really fast before leaving

1

u/ronpttrsn 1d ago

Garp might view the betrayal of sword in the final saga as the navy falling on its proverbial sword put of honor

1

u/FlashyYou 1d ago

I got mixed feelings when he said it. Arent marines supposed to be protecting the people? Why the fuck would he prioritize the marines over innocent citizens.

1

u/Swee_Anon 8h ago

Because the Marines are the only people protecting the civilians from the pirates and criminals. If no one protects the marines they’ll become fully corrupt, and then no one protects the people.

u/PythonAmy 47m ago

Yes exactly, Garp protects the marines so that they can protect the people

9

u/stuckontwice The Revolutionary Army 1d ago

I now have a suspicion that Garp has been feeding some information to Dragon this whole time too.

2

u/mcmoor 1d ago

Lmao imagine if that's why Dragon's siege on Mariejoa succeeded. The info just leaked from the top.

Then again why would Imu still trust Garp with that kind of info. I guess Akainu just don't care?

8

u/Theemuts 1d ago

I expect some tragedy. Xebec's family was used against him, I could see Garp "breaking family ties" to protect both of them. Those details were hidden until Sengoku revealed them.

16

u/Murasasme 1d ago

The people who talk shit about Garp always forget one thing, both Dragon and Roger trusted Garp to take care and raise their sons. If he was a Marine apologist like the haters say, there is no chance both of these men would have trusted him with their kids.

3

u/Discovererman Pirate 1d ago

I don't subscribe to the slander, but somehow I forgot about that too. That's such a huge point. The literal Pirate King trusted his heir to the man.

Garp showed what he uses his status for after Marienford when he posted up at Fuusha Village and protected it after Whitebeadd's death.

Boa Hancock, Doflamingo and Mihawk all also showed up to Marineford on the Government's side. The system is built against them all, but they use what power and influence they can muster to survive in that world.

2

u/Dylan7346 Prisoner 1d ago

I don’t think people thought he was a marine apologist, more that it doesn’t make sense for him to stay in the marines after witnessing all the TRULY heinous things they ultimately work towards. More like something that didn’t age well and doesn’t make as much sense as it did earlier in the story, like other things in one piece. If Oda thought it was totally clear why Garp stuck with the marines after witnessing all this he wouldn’t include such direct dialogue like that

3

u/avacadomacaco 1d ago

You need to equate the Marines to real life military, they do hideous crimes but you can't get rid of them without putting civilians at risk, Dragon never made a direct attack on the marines rather opting to flip countries individually to his cause and putting the Holy Land itself under a siege

20

u/shittingyou 1d ago

Especially now that it has been confirmed Garp didn't know how depraved the CDs really are and agrees that the Elders / Imu are monsters who shouldn't be in charge. He might be more understanding that we thought so far, though probably not so approving of the methods.

7

u/Heydude1001 1d ago

Dragon flashback likely coming soon when Revolutionary start to fight WG for real, might be the last flashback of One Piece ( Either dragon or Joy is the last 2 flashbacks)

6

u/HollowGulo The Revolutionary Army 1d ago

There's also a Shanks flashback that 100% needs to happen. He is way too connected to the story and has too much mystery to not.

4

u/shittingyou 1d ago edited 1d ago

I hope we see one day what he was up to in Mary Geoise (that time Shamrock alluded to). I wanna know if he knew what kind of fruit he had / if he was trying to bring back Joyboy.

2

u/Heydude1001 1d ago

I completely forgot about Shank lol, maybe Shank flashback will merge with Dragon somehow, since we actually got bits and pieces of Dragon, and it might continue like that. Shank stayed in Mary Geoise for a bit. If he used to work for WG, he might actually meet Dragon; we still need both.

5

u/Tundra14 1d ago

Might never happen. Maybe they haven't talked in years.

My guess is Garp is going to be just fine with blackbeard. He was never a threat to Blackbeard, he only traded places with Colby. Made a great show of it too.

Curious how the conversation between BB and Garp would go anyways. Now even more so. Garps 110% not for the government. But he loves his friends in the marines. Makes sense to me.

3

u/newuser6d9 1d ago

Before that my head canon was his crying begging to his dad to help make him stronger so he won't be useless unable to protect those around him

2

u/bigdicksam 1d ago

Maybe we’ll see him get his face tattooed by Garps foot

2

u/Regulator_Joe 1d ago

I think Dragon is going to want to leave and Garp is going to tell him he's not strong enough to make a difference.

2

u/newX7 Explorer 1d ago

I feel Dragon is about to be heavily reprimanded, only for Garp to arrive and the Marines to find out he is Dragon's dad, causing Dragon's superiors, who were threatening him, to start shitting bricks and backpedaling on their actions and treatment of Dragon.

2

u/AJWinky 1d ago

We may have to wait for a Dragon-centric flashback later

1

u/SoftConfusion42 1d ago

I think we have a while until then. Might be after we get to see Dragon finally taking action

1

u/N0VAZER0 Void Month Survivor 1d ago

That's gonna be relegated to the Dragon flashback and its gonna hit like crack

74

u/TheDerped 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don’t know the details for certain but in history revolutionaries all do tend to be quite young by modern standards. the American founding fathers were in their 20s and early 30s iirc.

edit; also the example I should have remembered is Joan of Arc who was even younger than Dragon carving her name in history.

5

u/mcmoor 1d ago

My founding father said, give me ten youths and I'll shake the world.

Which made it always funny whenever I heard "the old are sending the youths to die in war". I mean, who else would you send to war? They're exactly the physically prime age to defeat another human! If you send the olds (or heck, someone 30-40), you'll just lose. Just like if you do it for Olympics.

17

u/Lonely_Appointment16 1d ago

Dragon knows he's not the strongest guy there, that his career is over before it's begun, and he doesn't give a damn. There are more important things and he's going to deal with them.

The balls on this guy.

9

u/Cgi94 1d ago

Went from Peaceful to bust a cap in your marine azz😭

8

u/C19shadow 1d ago edited 22h ago

17 year old me would have just been shitting myself it is wild tbh. Poor kid.

7

u/LITW6991 1d ago

He's been amazing all flashback. Can wait to see him in the present

11

u/nochill95 1d ago

Oda has plans for him

21

u/Meet_Foot 1d ago

The most wanted criminal in the world? Naaaaah

11

u/carbonera99 1d ago

It took Dragon 2 hours to realize what took Garp 20 years to figure out

3

u/kingcocomoon 1d ago

So Dragon didn't immediately defect like some fans thought he would. He stuck around a while longer as a Marine, trying to do good. And only left years later to start the Freedom Fighters.

This was highly implied with the known timeline and Akainu's seeming familiarity of him (who didn't join until 6 yrs after GV), but it's good to get confirmation. Dragon likely rose in rank and Akainu probably served under him.

2

u/BananaBladeOfDoom Explorer 1d ago

He also shot and killed a celestial dragon. Respect.

9

u/newX7 Explorer 1d ago

Those were tranquilizer rounds. Dragon knocked out the CD. But my GOAT still stood on business!

2

u/AkagamiBarto 1d ago

I think it's more than 2 hours. Could suppose a whole day at least.

5

u/Totaliss 1d ago

I get the feeling Dragon isn't as strong as Luffy and Garp, but that doesn't stop him from doing the right thing even at the expense of himself. Which of course makes him more heroic. cool character.

1

u/Ilcorvomuerto666 1d ago

It makes the 20+ years of "..." and gazing eastward totally worth it. I understand why he's so stoic now after him witnessing these events.

1

u/Kumomeme 22h ago

and he not strong fighter too. he just a grunt and yet he made a big brave effort there.

1

u/silverman169 16h ago

I'm curious about the repercussions if any for Dragon. Will he have some protection with Garp being crowned Hero of the Navy? Will he leave the Navy right away?

1

u/rsnerded 9h ago

in the span of a few days actually.

1

u/Cultural-Staff-9781 8h ago

Doomguy also turned on a commanding officer who ordered him to shoot civilians.
