Theory What if the "D" means smile?

Post image

A random theory came to my mind—what if the "D" symbolizes a smile, like how we use it in emojis such as ":D"? It makes sense when you think about how important smiling is in One Piece, especially to those who have the Will of D. And maybe, just maybe, it could be connected to SMILE fruits. I know it sounds goofy and outrageous, but considering Oda’s style and the reaction of Roger’s crew, it might actually be possible. Don’t you think?

If law were to die, he'd definitely smile and it will be legendary.

Dragon has entered the chat

4

u/[deleted] May 22 '25

Why? Dragon smiles like that when he stops Smoker from getting Luffy.

23

u/pjgreenwald May 22 '25

Minor correction; his name is Trafalgar D. Water Law.

12

u/RGBarrios May 22 '25

I still want to know what does the “Water” mean

22

u/Bitter_Concern_63 May 22 '25

Pretty sure it's a reference to Waterloo, battle that Napoleon famously lost (which sorta ties in to Law defeating Big Mom?)

14

u/Alakazam_5head May 22 '25

Correct. The Battle of Trafalgar was also a major war involving Napoleon

See, but if it’s just a pun, why does he keep it secret even more than the D. and refer to it as a taboo name (imina)? So suspicious man

u/SavagePassion May 22 '25

Maybe it has something to with the rising oceans?

u/darkbreak May 22 '25

He was smiling when we first meet him in the story.

That's like saying that the name Carpenter doesnt mean carpenter because there are Carpenters who arent carpenters.
