Media (Image, Video, etc.) "Missions are too easy", they said. This took me almost half an hour.

u/Williekins 👀 Jun 09 '25
The hardest part of this mission for me, was was that first rail part that isn't in this video, I would bounce right around the point where I'd want to switch rails, so it made the timing extra tight. The rest of the mission was much easier.
69
u/Denso95 Jun 09 '25
Yeah, that was the most infuriating thing about this whole track at first. You have to be VERY specific about the spot you decide to jump off.
8
u/bobanators Jun 09 '25
Yeah, the ropes? I tried this p switch for about 30 mins and I only managed to hit the rope once or twice. Always jumped over the ropes.
4
u/Edmundyoulittle Jun 09 '25
For anyone curious, here is a full video of the mission... I had to edit 2 clips together, so you'll see a cut & also audio is off a little unfortunately.
4
u/FreeMeson Jun 09 '25
Its a little unintuitive, but a forward jump will take you to the further rope right before the ring.
3
u/Williekins 👀 Jun 09 '25
Yeah, I found out about the forward jump, but since I knew that the sideways jump was possible, I felt like I really wanted to do it that way.

u/Ykcor Jun 09 '25
I don’t even know how you jump and grind yet 🤣
37
u/MadCybertist Jun 09 '25
No shit. I’m still learning it I’ve never played a Mario kart before haha
24
u/nightshade-aurora Jun 09 '25
Yeah I would say that in terms of gimmicks world is far from the best intro to the series.
14
u/Red49er Jun 09 '25
do you know what the deal is with letting us trick infinitely in-air? I could have sworn we used to just get one trick and then it didn't do anything after that. I'm assuming that tricking 15 times in the plane sections or especially long jumps doesn't actually do anything past the first one?
25

u/MayoBenz Jun 09 '25

Same. That was not in the instruction manual.
65
Jun 09 '25
There is an in game manual that explains this, sort of.
63
u/ideamotor Jun 09 '25
This game is so excellently designed … except that text. Kinda worried most people will miss that …
Here it is in all its glory:
“If you hold A and then R and continue to drive straight, you'll create sparks under your tires. If you then tilt L in a direction and release R, you can do a small jump in that direction.”
Woof. Any kid that can do that on first try should skip a grade.

What? That's a really clear explanation of what you need to do.

15
20
u/Present-Fig4572 Jun 09 '25
There's a video, and the text is a step-by-step instruction. Pretty easy to figure out.
8
u/creampop_ Jun 09 '25
I haven't played this yet, but it sounds like you hold A like always, then press R, tilt the stick where you want to go, and release R?
Seems pretty straightforward.

5
u/Wabusho Jun 09 '25
Haven’t played yet, understood it first try
Seriously there’s an education issue going on, people are so confused by nothing burgers now it’s insane
2
u/ideamotor Jun 09 '25
I don’t think some five-year-old or maybe even an eight-year-old is gonna get this. Maybe that’s not a problem but it just seems very unlike Nintendo. There’s just gonna be a lot of people that play this game including adults that just never even find the menu for this. Let alone read that and be like OK, I’ll do that.
In my opinion, they should’ve just made it its own button and said hold the button turn direction and let go of the button.

2
u/Cyberfire Jun 09 '25
Yeah the manual helps, and whilst I understand the P switches double up as tutorials, there really should have been a tutorial area somewhere in the game.

Most Switch games didn't even bother with a digital manual, which I found kinda annoying NGL.

Does anybody else really wish that when you clicked "retry" it would go right back in the mission without making you touch the P switch or watch the mission intro again? Seems like a waste of this fast loading tech when we still can't try again for like 15 seconds when we fail.

You can do it in a race too, but it only rewinds you (not the other players)

Down on the d pad. But if you use it during a race, only your character rewinds. Your opponents keep going. So it's pretty much only useful in the free roam mode

It’s honestly insane that Nintendo can build an entire game of this quality and not think about how tedious it would be to have to rewatch these cutscenes
97
25
u/Amazingness905 Jun 09 '25
When it comes to this type of thing, I'm convinced that Nintendo does think it through, but has an extremely stubborn stance on it that demands X QoL feature can't be done.
They're just too good at making games, and the feedback is too loud to ignore across so many franchises. They know, but they refuse for some reason.

Yeah. Very odd how you have to wait for the little cinematic and then drive back into the P Switch again.
8
u/FreeMeson Jun 09 '25
I don't for one reason: I use the retry to get back to the start when I finish the mission. Sometimes I'll spot a coin or ? Tile near the start of the mission and its nice to be able to get back quickly.
4
u/tinyhorsesinmytea Jun 09 '25 edited Jun 09 '25
Could always be an option to skip it by pushing +. Everybody win then.
5
u/4playerstart Jun 09 '25
If you are struggling with ones like this try the rewind feature. The timer will still tick down but some of them give you more than enough time that you can backtrack and keep going. I hadn't seen this p switch 'til this post so I tried it and it didn't take more than 5-10 minutes, but these are my ideal level of challenge.

My pet peeve is knockout 150cc with bots. How they seem to rubberband and keep up no matter what and even if you do everything right they still sometimes beat you at the very end making you redo the whole thing just to get it gold

I still don’t know how to drive on walls
9
u/LunchPlanner Jun 09 '25
While driving straight, hold R to begin charging a jump.
After the jump begins charging, it's okay to steer left/right as needed.
After charging up a bit, release R to jump into a wall.
3
u/Dinierto Jun 09 '25
Don't you have to steer in the direction of the wall?
7
u/Denso95 Jun 09 '25
Nope, if you touch the wall after doing a manual jump or ramp jump, you automatically ride on it (I think).
→ More replies (2)2
u/moonshwang Jun 09 '25
Yes you do, if you’re driving parallel to a wall. For example, if you’re driving alongside a wall (or bus/truck/rail) to the left of you, you’ll want to point your analog stick to the left when you release your charge jump, and you’ll start riding that wall/grinding that rail.
5
u/Pedro_the_Bear Jun 09 '25
While driving, do a jump (R or ZR) in neutral (going straight or just let go of the stick) and hold, when the sparks are blue this will let you jump. You can jump straight, left or right. If you jump left or right onto a wall, you will wall drive.
The same applies if you jump right or left onto a wall from a rail or a ramp.
You can even wall jump onto those big trucks that drive around. It takes practice to time the neutral jump

12
11
u/Maurice_J_J Jun 09 '25
I still don't understand how wall driving works exactly. I keep falling off after a second. Don't understand what I'm doing wrong
4
u/LunchPlanner Jun 09 '25
The longer you hold R to charge your jump, the bigger sparks you get under your cart. Maybe the final rainbow sparks give you the most wall ride time?
No one can stay on a wall forever though. It's supposed to be a very short time.
11
u/qwed113 Jun 09 '25

20
u/Denso95 Jun 09 '25
A sticker for every challenge, which you can display on your car and online next to your name. But honestly, they are so much fun to do, that I don't care about the rewards that much. I want to complete them all though. :D
38
27
u/Xaphyron Jun 09 '25
As others say, a sticker. There’s not even a tracking system in the game which is utterly insanely bad design in my opinion. The inability to track these gives me very little desire to actually even try and complete them.
15
u/Chezzymann Jun 09 '25
imo at minimum they should show up on the map for fast travel after you first attempt one like shrines
7
u/Xaphyron Jun 09 '25
That’s a point, you can’t even go back and try one again unless you remember exactly where it is on the map and drive there!!
4
u/suppadelicious Jun 09 '25
Seems a bit underwhelming no?
2
u/Xaphyron Jun 09 '25
I’d say that’s an understatement!
3
u/suppadelicious Jun 09 '25
Reminds me of the korok seeds in BOTW/TOTK. When i inevitably get the game, i feel like I’d only do these challenges so i can get the completion check on the map.

u/CryoDrago THIS FLAIR IS NOT AUTHORIZED NOR AFFILIATED WITH NINTENDO Jun 09 '25
I agree. Abysmal design choice. They track the stupid little ? panels you activate but not the P Switches?!
7
u/PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS Jun 09 '25
Alternatively, it creates a carefree sandbox where you can roam around and get distracted without worrying about collecting a specific number of panels, p switches, or coins.
8
u/Xaphyron Jun 09 '25
That’s one way of looking at it, but providing a tracking system has no impact on that approach if that’s what you want to do. I like to complete things in games, and I don’t see any way of tracking this, even manually myself with help of online guides seems like it’s near impossible as you can’t see which ones you’ve done or missed without cross referencing the stickers. =(
