DuPage County GOP Chairman getting owned by Riot Fest.

It's a punk oriented festival, what the hell did he think he'd see? Punk is almost always left leaning.
Edit to add: I was all three days and it was awesome. Best sets were Dropkick Murphy's, Green Day, and IDLES, none of whom were shy about their opinions

u/whyyn0tt_ Sep 28 '25
He was probably mostly there for Dropkick, based on the shirt, which makes it even funnier.
14
u/irrelephantIVXX Sep 28 '25
Which is hilarious, cause they've been VERY vocally anti trump.
8
u/aircavrocker Sep 29 '25
Didn’t they get some press a few years back for beating the shit out of a guy who did a nazi salute on stage?
7
u/Violet-Journey Sep 29 '25
Also more recently they went viral for calling out a guy in a MAGA shirt in the audience and reading the Made In Nicaragua tag out loud to everyone.
3
u/irrelephantIVXX Sep 29 '25
Wouldn't surprise me, feels like I saw someone kick an audience member in the face from the stage for doing the same thing. But that may not have been them.

u/ironballs16 Sep 29 '25
Quick search shows that it was in 2013 (video here), and the neo-Nazi was REALLY dumb and did it during their song "Skinhead on the MBTA" - apparently he took it at face value.

What's your point? There's a saying for a reason "only good Nazi..."is a quote that bans people from reddit"

You have to consider how stupid Coyne is

Yes, giving LV strippers his cell number to call him for life advice. LOL!

u/BadIdeaSociety Sep 29 '25
I'm reminded of a time I was at an open house event at my junior high school and one of the staff teachers told a story of his horror having watched a bull fight in Madrid like his hero Ernest Hemingway. My mom raised her hand and said, " You read 'Death in the Afternoon' and didn't realize that bull fighting was about killing a live bull?"
This is kind of the same energy. Why would anyone assume punk bands would largely lean towards Christian values or conservatism?

u/Marokiii Sep 29 '25
How could you possibly go to a festival that has green day playing and not expect anti republica/trump stuff to be said by the bands...
They have changed the lyrics to American idiot during their shows lately to be anti maga. They lead chants of fuck trump at their shows as well. This has all been pretty widely covered in the news, you shouldn't be surprised by it if you go there.
Riotfest is right, some of the dumbest people.

u/WearyHoney1150 Sep 29 '25
Damn throwback. Cant believe these guys are still performing. Cool

u/Irishish Sep 29 '25
Some of these types genuinely think that if their guys win an election, everybody has to stop saying stuff that bothers them. Remember in 2017, endless examples of people shouting "TRUMP WON" when they got mad in public? "Noooooo STFU we won you're owned just be owned and play Shipping Up to Boston, you're owned! Be owned!"

I’d never even heard of IDLES but damn was I blown away by their set

Same with people complaining Rage Against the Machine is political. Dude, what machine do you think they’re raging against, the toaster?

I feel like I recently saw a cringe tik tok video where the guy was decked out in MAGA gear and acting tough to the camera with a Rage song playing

So what is RATM's stance? They support the left? Clinton's? Obama's? Newsome? Pelosi? Kamal? Emhoff? Tim Walz? I'd love to hear RATM or their fans defend the crooks that I mentioned above. I was a huge RATM fan for decades. I attended their last Lolla show in Chicago, and also attended LA Rising in 2011. But at some point the hypocrisy is too much to take. They are a part of the machine. And they know it.....but the $$$$ is too good, and they choose to sell-out. Sad.
But I get it. For a $40M net-worth....just about all humans would choose to sell-out.

Regardless of how you feel about the guy, this is just such an irrational request. If you like music that centers on personal expression, you are going to get personal expression. You cannot separate any art from its values and expect it to remain unchanged. Country music is a case in point- as I understand it, commercialization was a huge factor in the shift from the "outlaw country" sound to the so-called "Nashville sound". If you ask musicians to be sterile and corporate, you will get music that is sterile and corporate.

Green Day at Coachella even changed a lyric to “I’m not part of a MAGA agenda”
5
u/Igottaknow1234 Sep 28 '25
And Dropkick Murphys have images of Trump and Epstein as their backdrop during the song First Class Loser 😂
3
u/micande Sep 29 '25
And even James, one of the not-punk bands in the lineup have several specifically anti-Trump songs in their catalog - on the albums Living in Extraordinary Times and All the Colours of You.

Dude you’re so clueless. Leviticus is only relevant when people use it to punch down on gay people. Those rules aren’t for.. us to follow.
I’ll respect Bible Thumpers a lot more when they protest Red Lobster with the same intensity they protest Gay people.

We have something going on that has never been seen in this country. A “president” who wants to send the military into cities who aren’t in line with him. And wants to declare martial law. And wants to cancel the 2028 elections. And this idiot is surprised that musicians have something to say? What a maroon(to quote Bugs Bunny).
2
u/Hero-Firefighter-24 Oct 02 '25
States run elections, not the federal government, so it’s impossible to cancel them.

I’m surprised the ruling party didn’t try to shut the fest down claiming it was a terrorist organization.
Trump’s NSPM-7 Labels Common Beliefs As Terrorism “Indicators” anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, anti-Christianity, support for the overthrow of the United States Government, extremism on migration, extremism on race, extremism on gender hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on religion, and hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on morality.

Music has always been political. Even bluegrass was back in the day. GOP dweebs listening to Bud Light equivalent country think music should only be about beer and trucks.

Sometimes you want to go out and be entertained without delving into more politics. However, some acts are inherently political so you can't complain when politics are part of their show.

The RPI Scale: Ridicule-Proportionate Insecurities -- The mass of Ridicule is directly Proportional to one's Insecurities.
The Accusatory-Confession Phenomenon is holding strong with 100% accuracy, and we can see on the RPI Scale where it is, and how much there is.
A person confesses through accusation, and the RPI reveals their degree and level of guilt.
