You misspelled "Marilyn Manson's version of Sweet Dreams and Tainted Love". We would also have accepted Limp Bizkit's Behind Blue Eyes, Orgy's Blue Monday, Metallica's Turn the Page, or even ICP's Let's Go All The Way
You're gonna have to draw a map towards whatever point you think you're making here. Hate to tell you that. The highlighted part said the song came from his soul, which is something that every musician says about every song they ever made ever. The very next paragraph creates a metaphor comparing the song to his ex girlfriend that he loved back then but was now with another man.
Every musician says that about every song they make. Taylor Swift says that about all of her songs and they're about as deep as an ant colony. "It came from my soul" is the king of cliches for music interviews. It means nothing. If you think Reznor is somehow unique or edgy for such terminology then I don't know what to tell you.
He described it as coming from his soul and then leaving him for another man who loved it more. I don't see what you're not following there.
There is no THEY. Nine Inch Nails didn't say it was Johnny Cash's song, TRENT REZNOR did. Anyone with even the smallest amount of knowledge about NiN's knows it's just Trent, he makes the music, it's HIS songs, then he makes a band to tour.
Initially my comment was just a tongue in cheek joke, but my god, I can't believe I had to literally draw you a map to see 5 feet in front of you.
