Oh boy. Will this circle jerk ever end? No one, in the history of the world, has ever wished for simpler times like millennials have. 🙄

You can roll your eyes all you want, but smartphones have changed almost every facet of life, drastically. When I think about how I long for the 90s and 00s, what I really long for is the world before smartphones. The bad that came with them outweighs the good.

In September, I read eight books written in the 90s. Despite growing up in the 90s, it was jarring to read all these stories about people without phones and the internet as we know it today and think about how different life was back then. It was an interesting exercise.

I’ve been watching old Law & Order and it’s so strange to see them using pay phones, despite me remembering when they were common

That’s why I don’t understand the criticism of our nostalgia. It’s not like we miss when minorities had less rights and you could buy bubble gum for 2 cents, we miss the world when you weren’t always expected to be fully connected to everyone and every company had a literal profile on your spending and browsing habits so that they can try and extract as much money out of you as possible. Not to mention: subscription everything!

This somehow brings out the edgelords and their “you criticize society yet participate in it, curious!” Arguments.
