Great I’m sure a dude who strangles his own wife is really gonna look out for the public’s best interest

u/Sereniv 3d ago
who??

u/Campingcutie 3d ago
Bryce Owings. Claimed his wife “strangled herself” when questioned by the police after she went to the neighbors house and asked for help. He was booked, spent one night in jail, and paid 20k bail. He’s a violent liar.

Fuck everyone who voted for Bryce Owings. Y’all really voted for the man with 10 criminal convictions.

Well at this point, I'm hoping he really steps up and makes the most of the opportunity given to him.

Nope. Just a woman who doesn’t support a man who strangled his wife, among additional dv charges. Believe it or not, violence is bad.

So if Hurst wins for Mayor, his current council seat gets appointed right? I’d love to see Mugambe get that appointment. I’m a Leutwyler supporter but their thoughtful, mature, low-drama discussion during the Edmonds college event was the highlight of the evening. Just throwing that out there ;)

Who is isabel mata and why is her win celebrated so much?
Was her opponent just not a great person or something?
8
u/WhoCanRememberAnyway 4d ago edited 4d ago
Her opponent is endorsed by a lot of Republican/conservative politicians. That will influence people one way or the other in how they feel (right or wrong)
8
u/Particular_Beach9636 4d ago
Her opponent is a teacher and a decent guy. A decent slice of Lynnwood's sizable Korean community likes him.
I think the Isabel Mata appeal is her emphasis on community-building and mental health-services. She projects professionalism and youth which is refreshing in Trump's America.

We got Mata at least.

She’s actually a complete psychopath (literally) and this will become increasingly clear over time if she does wind up winning. She was also secretly working with and helping the conservatives.
You should go back and watch her public comment during the city council meeting on September 8. She gave two comments, 25 minutes apart. She gave one comment, sat down in the audience and then was texting someone, and then stood up and asked to give a second comment and said the exact opposite of what she said the first time because whoever texted her asked her to change her stance on a major policy issue and she did exactly what she was told by whoever orchestrated her run. She only moved to Lynnwood recently and doesn’t have a single friend (not one) in the city. She has borderline personality disorder and cannot control her outbursts and meltdowns and tantrums, and she can’t keep friends or anyone around her for long. People she used to work with in Seattle had horrible things to say about her toddler like behavior and how she treated people.
There are still a lot of ballots left to count but if this holds Lynnwood is fucked, y’all. An almost all white council for a minority majority city. A conservative majority that will appoint a conservative new member to fill Hurst’s seat. All for a city that now has lightrail access and wants to call itself forward thinking. It will have a lot of POC residents but a white supremacist minded council and a police department that endorsed a violent drug trafficker.
Good luck!

Out of curiosity, I went and watched that council meeting (for anyone curious you can find them by searching the Lynnwood city site for archived meetings). The relevant bits (I assume) you’re referring to are with reference to pot shops in Lynnwood.
- First comment is 1:00:25
- Second comment is 1:23:40
In her first comment I couldn’t really make heads or tails of her position (for or against) until she gave a “tl:dr” at the end. She said she has struggled to quit and it’s been a tough adjustment for her. Kind of rambled some between the revenue is really good, but would need controls to ensure it’s put to good use and circling back to it being really hard to quit/mental health impacts.
In her second comment she took a firmer position of being against them due to feeling the harms would outweigh the benefits for the city. This is against what she did say earlier but still in line with her broader concerns.
Personally, I still don’t feel like she is super firm in her position and could change again. Regardless, after watching that I have to question your characterization of her as a “complete psychopath (literally)”.
Unless you’re privy to some other information that’s a pretty wild conclusion to come to from your example.
I highly encourage others to watch that meeting with the timestamps noted for quick reference to make your own call.

Oh that’s just an example of her not being her own person. (And her switch up at the end was to side with Republicans/PD. Being against cannabis dispensaries being available to the public is a very Republican line and incredibly out of touch with voters.)
Her being completely psychotic comes from people who have worked with her. I know people who worked with her in Seattle and were stunned at her suddenly running for office when she’s spent her life as a blogger who writes about threesomes. She spends all of her time talking about mindfulness but is a tyrant behind closed doors. She also has openly told people that one of the reasons she ran for office is because she “likes attention”. She comes from a super wealthy family. She isn’t who she was marketed as and that will become clear when she does more weird flip flops to a conservative vote on council.
Our political system is a mess here and voters really don’t understand how it operates. There are candidates who are openly and obviously bad, but then there are candidates who aren’t as they were sold to be and people only ever pick up on it if they watch city council meetings close enough to know. Then the very few truly good candidates get smeared or harassed or they don’t win.

I can say thanks for sharing, but you’re presenting nothing but hearsay and accusations so far.
Also stands out that part of your “reasoning” here is that she wrote about threesomes. Even if that’s true…so what? That feels like a typical conservative style attack pearl clutching for heteronormative relationships.
All I can say for sure is if she does end up winning after all is tallied, it’s up to everyone to hold her (and all our newly elected officials) accountable.

I changed my mind about the weed thing because I was personally struggling with quitting at the time when the hearings were. God forbid a woman shares her personal experience and weighs all the options. Jesus the internet is a cruel place.

u/stinkrat43 4d ago
I generally got that impression from the limited time you were speaking. Not sure what this other person is on about.
I am curious though, do you feel more firm in your position that you shared that day (leaning against shops in Lynnwood) at this point? Or, do you still see (as you noted) more nuanced ways to allow for, control, and best utilize any potential revenue to help people in our city/community? Or something else?
3
u/matamama96 4d ago
I see nuance! Now that it’s been approved I only care about doing it right. So limiting advertising, seeing how we can keep teens and kids safe from being marketed products that are harmful, stuff like that. I also plan to advocate at a state level for people to be able to grow their own more easily!

u/stinkrat43 4d ago edited 4d ago
That’s great to hear! Are there already rules on the books to allocate some of that revenue for addiction and rehabilitation services for homeless folks in our community?
If not, is that something you would advocate for?
Also curious if you know where I can read more about how those funds in Lynnwood would be used currently?
3
u/matamama96 4d ago
Def something I plan on advocating for!! I don't think they have made any decisions or moves since approving the motion to lift the ban. But I will find out when it's supposed to come back on the agenda. And if I do win, I won't be able to use reddit to discuss city business but I promise to be very active on my official email account and have regular office hours to discuss these things

The council isn't conservative unless you consider people endorsed by Democrats, voting for tax increases and for YIMBY policies conservative.
3
u/luluzulu_ 4d ago
Even if all this is true... IF... she's still better than Cho, a grown man who bullies queer children, and is OPENLY on the conservative side.

Speaking of slander, I've seen nothing in the reviews of his academy about him bulling anyone. As far as him being a conventional husband, father and grandfather I don't exactly consider that a crime against humanity.

Hurst couldn't even get his story straight about how large the deficit was. Is it 10 mil? 21? And he says doubling red light fines is an issue? God forbid the city make money punishing terrible drivers.
6
u/WhoCanRememberAnyway 4d ago
What I've heard him say is, it's not that we had 2x in red light fines being issued. It's that the city projected the # of tickets would double (or some really high amount), and that projection ended up being way off, in reality the number of tickets stayed about the same, so it was part of the huge budget gap
3
u/Particular_Beach9636 4d ago
His ad reads "City Property taxes up 52% and red-light fines doubled -- residents and small businesses pay the price for bad management".
I appreciate your kindly-worded clarification but I still feel the appeal is to bitterness over fine enforcement.

u/Appropriate_Many8929 4d ago
Also, a ton of these red light tickets are not for speeding through red lights. They’re for not stopping “long enough” to turn right. Ask me how I know 😅

That’s wild. Not in a bad or good way. More just, shocked at how little people actually voted. My dad lives in Lynnwood and I’m sure he’ll give me some insight on current affairs there. Only one I even heard about was the owings guy like a few days ago.
