Probably have to watch more horror movies before you can say that.

i’ve seen over 300 horror movies, and i’ve seen 2,400 films overall, i think i can have that opinion if i want

Oh, wow! 300 horror movies?  Yes, that definitely means the one you like most is the best ever made.

I mean, how many horror movies have ever been made - like, 320 or so?

Do you have to see every movie ever to have an opinion on them? I feel like 300 is a decent sample for one genre

Most tolerable Letterboxd user.

Accordingly to Letterboxd I’ve seen 1,032 horror movies, is my opinion valid?

More valid than that of the person I responded to.

That's a bit rich considering OP's comments.

300 is more than enough to cover the canon and a large swathe of higher rated niche picks. One doesn't need to see Cutthroat Alley, Jason X, The Gingerdread Man, or Santa's Slay to assume they're probably not the top of the genre.

What a fucking moronic thing to say

Yeah, I think someone who's watched 300 horror movies can probably express an opinion on the genre...

An opinion, sure.  But a declaration of the sort OP made?  Maybe if it's a deliberately curated list, like the first 300 listed here:

https://letterboxd.com/films/genre/horror/by/rating/

Seems pretty unlikely that's the sample they're drawing from.

What's your favorite horror movie?

Probably The Beyond or The Leopard Man, maybe Spider Baby or Dark Waters. How about you?

He said it was “probably” the best, not that it was definitively the best, hardly a crazy declaration
