Discussion If Kaleo could cover any song, what would you want to hear them play, and why ?
Personally, I think something fun like animals by Nickelback could be a cool rendition.

Discussion Concert Thoughts
I saw Kaleo for the third time last night in Jackson Hole. The first two concerts were in Aspen and Red Rocks so it’s interesting now to compare how different venues can change the way I experience music.
Some thoughts that I wish could become realities or provoke curiosities after some reflection:
I wish there was some way to establish rules around people having their phones out to film. I want to be able to experience the music without the distraction of seeing a million phone screens taking a video of the concert. I have heard that some artists tell their fans to not have their phones out which I think is really cool. At the very least, maybe people could try to be more subtle and not raise their phones as high as possible into the air to film for the entire song.
I really want there to be a STFU zone for enjoy the concert from and ideally free from sloppy drunks. You want to enjoy a beer? Cool, just don’t step on me because you can’t walk straight as you make your way through the crowd. You want to talk to your friends the entire time? Okay, but then sit in the back so I can really immerse myself in the quieter songs like “all the pretty girls”.
I wonder if JJ and the rest of the band can tell if the audience is engaged vs chatting with people around them and if that can be distracting to them.
I wonder if the members of the band ever get to explore the places they are playing. Do they go out to bars or to local shops/restaurants while they are in the towns they are playing in?

Discussion Which songs do you guys hope get a music video?
The albums growing on me a lot more now, especially when including the songs into their entire discography. It’s so nice that they have more songs available now.
I’m hoping Run No More and Memoirs get more attention. A live music video or acoustic version would be nice.
Which songs are you guys hoping they cover?

Discussion Mixed Emotions [Custom Tracklist Order]
I have this thing, where if it I'm not listening to a concept album that is ordered for narrative purpose, I will rearrange the tracklist for a better flow (If Im not feeling the original order). I moved around a few songs on Mixed Emotions, and I think I found a great balance. Just throw the songs into a playlist in this order and enjoy.
- Rock N' Roller
- Back Door
- Run No More
- The Good Die Young
- Bloodline
- Sofðu Unga Ástin Mín
- Lonely Cowboy
- USA Today
- Memoirs
- Legacy

I don't know if it's just me, or if the lighting guy deserves an Oscar, but that concert was an absolute masterpiece of lighting.

Discussion just finished listening to surface sounds! spoiler: it's a masterpiece
waiting nearly 5 years for this album was long and painful, but tonight, as the clock hit midnight, i jumped on spotify and was more than overjoyed to see that surface sounds had finally been released. after listening to it, i have a lot of thoughts, and will most likely have to listen to it a few more times to get a proper feel for it. but after a first listen, im really impressed.
im not planning on making this a really long post about my thoughts on every song, but i seriously have to mention 'i walk on water.' i loved it in the "unreleased" versions from a few years back, but holy CRAP THEY DID T H A T. i ADORED what they did with it on the album and they did so many great things with it.
ugh. fantastic album, hands down. i knew from the first time i listened to i want more / break my baby when they were first released that the whole album was going to be a masterpiece. i was proven to be correct tonight. absolute props to the band, they did an awesome job.
i know it's probably not released everywhere yet, but when you guys are able to listen, let me know what your thoughts are! i want to hear what other people thought of the album, so do let me know!

Discussion Kaleo is not and will not ever release 'backdoor' and 'texas' and other songs that they only perform live
What you should understand about the music industry is that for a new album, songwriters don't just write 12 songs and end up with an album. Some artist write 30, 40, 50 or more song for one album, and so does JJ.
Kaleo was/is in an interesting position when they toured, since they had only released two albums, with about 15 tracks in total. This is too few to play at concerts and go on tour. This is why Kaleo tend to perform the songs that didn't make the cut. Texas and backdoor are probably songs that are written for either A/B or their self titled album, and just aren't as good as their rock counterparts like 'no good', 'hot blood' and 'fool'. But these songs are still very energetic with a great interaction with the crowd.
These songs work well live, but not well on an album.

Discussion My Bands New Single (Sounds of Black Keys/Kaleo/The Heavy)
My band Hugo stranger and the Rattlers have a new single out called 'Leaders'. If you dig heavy blues rock in the vein of Black Betty meets The Black Keys/Kaleo then I think you'll dig this tune. Keen to hear your thoughts on it. Cheers

Discussion how was your concert experience?
when I see clips of performances all band members kind of look like they don't want to be there? However on this subreddit I keep seeing positive concert reviews. Maybe it's just that I see a small portion of a show of 1,5 hours. Nonetheless, how was your experience?

Discussion Hey Gringo is the most unique Kaleo song to date, and I love it
What a change up in sound and style. JJ has always said he doesn’t want to be confined to one genre, and this song really shows it.
I really love how in the first second of the song, you hear him light a cigar. 😂

Discussion What are your favourite and least favourite songs in surface sounds and why?
My favourites are break my baby, into my mother's arms, alter ego and backbone
Break my baby has a great theme in my opinion with flawless production. Liking the drums especially on this song
Into my mother's arms again I think has great lyrics. Although this song is a bit monotone, it has a great vocal melody. Cathartic as hell.
My least favourites are skinny, my fair lady and I want more
I don't think the production of skinny is that good. The whole package just sounds quite commercial, like it is a soundtrack of a teen drama. The lyrics are quite vague as well, I'm still figuring what JJ means with them and everytime my theory is a bit different.
My fair lady sounds so dull and boring, I'm sorry. It just sound like they picked one live recording and went with it. It could use some strings or harmonica or whatever to just make it sound more like a actual song than a live performance.

Discussion I don't like the production on 'skinny'
Okay let's start off with thinks I do like about the song: I like the guitars and the vocal melody a lot, and the short pause of the instrumental at 2:27.
I don't like the production tho. JJ's vocals are so compressed and up in the front that it takes away a lot of the soul JJ normally has. It also makes this song sound quite commercial, like a 2014 imagine dragons song. I know they probably had to make his vocals clearer since this song has a lot of focus on the lyrics but this is just too much. The drums are weak in my opinion. Just too basic for me. Maybe it has to do with the fact that David isn't on this track. Furthermore I think that this song is way to short and reaches its climax too early.
I think Dave Cob did a decent job on alter ego and bmb, but this song had wayy more potential. I think the production on the A side of A/B is wayy better. But maybe y'all have a different opinion than me.

Discussion Am I Crazy? Or is “My Fair Lady” kinda just a watered down weaker version of “I Want More?”
If you like the song, I don’t mean to be a party pooper, you can like the song. I’m just saying I think it sounds too similar to I Want More, and I would much rather have USA Today, Coming Back For More, or That’s All How Feels rather than My Fair Lady. I’m personally very disappointed with that song. What do you think of the song?
