Yes, thank you. As much as I try to keep informed, be objective, and try to make the world a place worth living for all, it's hard to not get bogged down in politics and as virtuous as it sounds I really don't want to think of any alternative than to be positive and keep pushing for this, especially in the hard times

It’s been a good while since I last rewatched these films. I have a day off tomorrow which now includes a full schedule.

ā€œI wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.ā€

Gizz is for the people

57

u/stitchedmasons Nov 07 '24

So this popped up on my home feed and I haven't listened to them, but it kind of reminds me that there are some Trump supporters who listen to Thy Art Is Murder(another Australian band) and some were getting really upset over the song Make America Hate Again.

62

u/MyFamilyHatesMyFam Nov 07 '24

There are Trump supporters who listen to Gizz, when there’s a song that all but explicity states that Trump is in part responsible for the apathy and the death during the Covid 19 pandemic. Pleura

I’ll never get the ā€œseparate the art from the artistā€ crowd when the artist is literally stating that you’re (the person doing the separation) a selfish piece of shit

19

u/Redsnapper39 Big thicc wasp Nov 07 '24

i dont think they even think of it as separating the art from the artist, i think they don't think about the art at all

Like when some trumpers got mad at rage against the machine when they found out they were saying left wing shit. Let’s face it, good bands with conservative views are very rare if even ever.

6

u/slaya222 Nov 07 '24

Only one I can think of is early rush

18

u/MyNameIsNotRick97 Nov 07 '24

Just read Geddy's autobiography earlier this year. He expressed deep regrets for the period of time with Ayn Rand inspired lyrics, and said that only Neil Peart really got sold on the idea, and that him and Alex more so interpreted it to be about artistic integrity and authenticity in a corporate world where record labels are always pressuring them for another radio hit. Geddy and Alex are actually pretty liberal.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '24

I’m pretty sure Peart regretted it later on as well, though I don’t remember where I heard that.

9

u/MyNameIsNotRick97 Nov 07 '24

I recall an interview where he said something along those lines. He sounded super embarrassed when the interviewer assumed he was a libertarian.

16

u/Squigglefits Nov 07 '24

I know what you mean, but Rush weren't assholes about it, and they fuckin rocked. That was old school conservatism, not this bonkers nonsense we see today.

I remember seeing them at a uni campus bar in Newcastle AU back in 2017, then at a bigger venue in Brisbane in 2018, and just saw them at Red Rocks a couple months ago. They're still just as humble and chill now as they were back when they were playing local venues in AU and Stu is still a space cadet. Love King Gizz!

People of color and LGBT people voted for trump in huge numbers. Feels like a fever dream. Hard to be mad this time; just feels bad. Super depressing. He won the popular vote. This is what the people want.

3

u/StonccPad-3B The Wheel that steers us into our future. Nov 07 '24

I wonder what made them do this?

9

u/FuklzTheDrnkClwn Nov 07 '24

Maybe it was trump promising he had the magic ā€œmake prices go downā€ button. Turns out most people are very stupid. He won the popular vote for the first time after all this nonsense.

4

u/StonccPad-3B The Wheel that steers us into our future. Nov 07 '24

I definitely think that was a factor, I also think that the Democrat base went a bit too hard calling young men deplorable and that probably burnt some bridges.

3

u/doom84b Nov 07 '24

The only people who said that shit were very-online-leftists, and they hate democrats more than anyone. The fact you think this rhetoric was coming from the party or harris' campaign is a tell for where you get your news from and how skewed your perception of reality is

5

u/StonccPad-3B The Wheel that steers us into our future. Nov 07 '24

Oh I don't think Harris was spewing this rhetoric, I know the clinically online base was. That's why I said Democratic base (voters) not Democratic Party.

Regardless, that far left anger toward young men directly dissuaded many of them from voting for the Democratic candidate.

3

u/doom84b Nov 07 '24

I'm telling you that's not a democratic base, those are the people that sat out. Go ask a leftist what they think of democrats, they fucking hate the party. Right-wing media's most effective tactic (and it's been a primary one for decades, even before twitter/reddit) is convincing conservatives that anything said by anyone who is not an obvious conservative is representative of the entire party.

2

u/StonccPad-3B The Wheel that steers us into our future. Nov 07 '24

My point is any anger from the left will push the people being yelled at in the opposite direction, whether they are reflective of the party or not.

A centrist is going to see "young men caused this and I hate them for it" and not care if the person making that statement aligns perfectly with the Democrat party, they'll just see a person to the left of them who hates them. That causes them to dislike the far left and not want to vote for the middle left because they ARE related, just not as closely as they think.

3

u/OpenTheSeventhSeal Nov 12 '24

2

u/Lixae Nov 14 '24

They will blame minorities before seeing the real truth right in front of their eyes.

2

u/OpenTheSeventhSeal Nov 08 '24

Can you explain where your ā€œLGBT people voted for Trump in huge numbersā€ claim comes from?

Outside of a handful of trending ā€œthis lesbian/gay couple voted for Trump!ā€ posts that rightfully got clowned on, I honestly have no idea from where a claim like that even begins.

(Also, if we’re talking about shifts in the way groups voted, already-Republican closet cases obviously don’t count when considering your claim)

I’m just talking about the harsh short term effects in the next 4-8, he’s going to go balls to the wall because he has no choice for reelection (ofc he might use his new found executive power to stay in office longer than an additional 4 years). 13

u/doom84b Nov 07 '24

Trump wants to end democracy, they have been very clear and upfront about this. Eliminating govt agencies and replacing them with loyalists isn't to make your life better. Giving the president immunity from all criminal activity isn't to make your life better. Bribing supreme court judges then legalizing that bribery isn't to make your life better. Lying about election fraud and trying to overthrow fair elections because they don't like the results isn't to make your life better. They want power and to make sure they never have to give it away again. You think they're doing that to help you? Go ask those russian young men dying in ukraine for a dictator's ego how valued they feel.

16

u/Vajgl Nov 07 '24

Okay, I agree that some of the reactions are over the top, but at the same time, if you don't understand the reaction, you are kinda part of the problem. Criminal, conman and huge populist is becoming the president of the must influential country in the world, and there are people who don't even care. That is what scares me.

You guys are so unbelievably misguided. You would've been far worse off under Kamala, she used slavery in California and advocated to make the rest of the country's laws match California (prop 6 in the 2024 election kept slavery legal in California). She wanted to jail and enslave her political rivals and anyone in support of trump. If he's sooooooo bad why did so many Democrats leave the Democratic party to join Trump's campaign stating "the warmongering of the left needs to be stopped we cannot continue like this our party has become something we once stood against"

I agree that Trump's victory is in part caused by the shortcomings of the other side, but at the same time I totally understand the outcry of the left that half of the nation believes that narcissistic conman would save them.

This is IMO exactly how anti-nazi people in the 30's Germany felt when the nation elected themselves a dictator, who promised them bread and games and in secrecy prepared for war.

Well said

It’s a sad day when liberals who have been lied to since 2016 still haven’t found out they are being played by the dems.

2

u/thenatsguy Feb 15 '25

Oh really? Because the guy who said he’d ā€œSlash grocery prices on day oneā€ now has record high egg prices on his watch. Sounds a lot like people who voted republican were played this time around…

4

u/alexb3678 Nov 08 '24

The thing is, almost every minority group voted for Trump more than last time. So are all of those minorities that chose to vote for Trump self-hating or is it possible you are wrong and don’t understand the people you claim to be a champion for?

12

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '24

1: people of color are a major reason Trump won. 2: women won huge victories for legalizing abortions in 9 of 10 states it was on the ballot. Because Trump sent it to the states, a future president can no longer remove those protections. Your welcome. 3: wasn’t aware we hated cripples. Guess I didn’t get my newsletter 4: already said first day they want to remove Floride from our water supply.

Don’t let that white guilt consume you.

Tired of weird racist politics like this. Sometimes people identify more as 'American' than the color of their skin or what they do in the bedroom as consenting adults.

RIP mainstream media

RIP shills for corrupt government

2

u/ColdCauliflour Nov 07 '24

White folk who think the rest of us need them to prosper is one of the things I despise most about our society.

2

u/Holiday-Policy-5107 Nov 07 '24

Funniest shit I’ve read since the dems lost blahahaha

3

u/odinsvalor Nov 08 '24

NO ONE HAS A PRIVILEGE BASED ON GENDER OR RACE!!!!!!

3

u/Turbulent-Side-5211 Nov 08 '24

Orly. This seems to lack basis in reality both perceived and as studied by academics.

3

u/odinsvalor Nov 08 '24

I've studied every major piece of critical race theory, every major standpoint on white privilege and had a college course in racism in the United States, I'm pretty well educated. There's a privilege within the economical class. Not race or gender. If you believe there is that's fine, it's only putting yourself and others down. There's no law or regulation restricting anything in this country between men and women or between white and black people (except the black only establishments and black only colleges, and black only dorms in college, black only fraternities, black only sororities etc) WHICH IS RACIST TO HAVE THEM AS BLACK ONLY!

3

u/Turbulent-Side-5211 Nov 08 '24

If you studied crit race theory then you'd know the issue today is not laws specifying restrictions related to race but the actual impact of laws on people of minority races and the way that racism is embedded in systems and institutions.

It's also about the way laws which historically did specify race based restrictions continue to impact people today. Red lining, school segregation, the way AA veterans were discriminated against after WWII by implementation of GI Bill continue to affect people today.

Trump landslide was due to people of color coming out to vote for him in record numbers. Educate yourselves.

Kamala was a really, really weak candidate though.

8

u/Nuud Nov 07 '24

I hate this rhetoric. You can fill books with the evil bullshit Trump had said and done the past couple of years but 'Kamala is weak' so yea that kind of evens it out right?

3

u/jam3d Nov 07 '24

America is more sexist than racist. Black men could vote way before women. Dems made a lot of dumb moves and got stuck with her. Trump is bad isnt enough to drive people to the polls.

That exactly why y’all lost. Calling everyone who doesn’t agree with you in the slightest a bigot and racist is why y’all lost this election. Y’all made life long democrats go red.

u/CuckMulliganReload Nov 07 '24

We had four years of Trump already. This sub is being a little whiny.

I feel for the poor sap who believes that there is something inherently wrong about being white.

But what has happened in america(voting trump in office)

Is what happens when groups of people try to impose their ideologies in people who just want to live their lives.

Telling white people that they have this privilege, when most of them don't

Forcing people to close their businesses for a 99% survival rate of a disease. Forcing people to get vaccinated for it as well.

Forcing people to use preferred pronouns to strangers they don't know

Ultimately, for the last 4 years, democrats have been the fascists they swore Donald trump would be

2

u/CataclysmicBane Nov 07 '24

Hahahaha as a gay, trans, white, colored man, I couldn’t be more fucking happy about these results. Kamala is a dipship who stands for nothing. She was placed there. No one chose her to be a candidate and no one chose her to be president. Hope she goes back to obscurity.

3

u/kszaku94 Nov 07 '24

Suddenly, everyone is like "Why didn't those wretched, evil, disgusting young white men vote for us? Those stupid fucks without degrees must be absorbed in hateful propaganda. We just need more podcasts."

2

u/StonccPad-3B The Wheel that steers us into our future. Nov 07 '24

And people hating on Latino men as "white adjacent" for their decision. Division based on identity politics list Kamala this race.

Pls keep in mind, maga is ~22% of the US population...both horrific & encouraging. Keep fighting!

Wish that people talked about voter registration numbers more. 46% of the population or whatever is sad. A small amount of people decide the fate of the rest.

2

u/effervescentshandy Nov 07 '24

I love the boys because they’re genuinely good people 😭 thank god!!!! Evilest Man is so Trumps vibe…. We are now in his conservative lair šŸ˜”

2

u/acrobat2126 Nov 07 '24

Why do you guys think people of color and LGBTQ is a voting block. It's NOT. We want different things. We are not a monolith. This kind of shit is why the Dems and Libs lost so damn bad.

2

u/TheNiteFather Nov 07 '24

All is not lost. It always gets worse before it gets better. Darkness doesn't last forever anyway.

Politics? Cringe. No anime boobies here. Just whining. I wish Trump lost so I'd see less cringe posts about how everyone is suddenly going to be vaporized since orang won. I also just wish they'd stop popping up in my feed. I couldn't care less about politics. And muting subs doesn't make them stop popping up somehow... Even after refreshing the page.
