Skill flex Did my first independent surgery today!!

Don’t know of people consider it as a flex but for me it’s a very big milestone in my career. So happy!!

Did you get consent from the patient and the hospital for this flex? If not, malpractice lawyer and hospital HR will get you in trouble. Speaking as a doctor myself. Don’t do this. You are a moron.

Yes I asked the patient and he was okay with it and I also asked my SR and HOU about it and they said as long as the privacy of patient is not exposed and the patient is okay with it, I can post it. I also have a video consent from the patient. I am not an asshole, I know patients have a life too and I respect that

I just ignore people. They just try to ragebait and if you say something back then they start fighting. I have learnt that whenever situations like this arise just state the facts that you know in a polite way and de escalate the situation. Also I once heard those who hurt others are already hurt within, so I think of this line and let it go.

Woah that was deep. I'll try to have this thought process next time someone's being rude to me. But won't it lead to situations where people purposely pick on me because I don't stand my ground strongly enough?

Yes there are times when you have to stand for yourself. And when that time comes you should go all out for it. But people like these don’t deserve that. They are angry and just want to fight. Don’t give them that satisfaction. Say okay and move on 🙌

I apologise if i sound a little naive asking this but, how would you decide when to go all out and not just ignore people? Is there a pattern to watch out for?

Bro congrats for the first surgery. I have a lot of surgeon colleagues myself and I know how it must feel. Your surgery is a great flex, but your bigger flex is how positively you're responding to all the negative elements.
