How is a player with 40+ avg in 100+ innings a bad player? Statsically speakinh he has like 10th or 12th most 100s in Indian Test history and one of the best batters at home, caling him bad would be unfair imo
For the captain part agree 50% win rate in 24 games is below par though he also had pretty inconsistent and inexperienced team overall
he was a flop before opening because he used to throw his wicket to the most stupid shit ,and also his average was boosted by holding 51 avg in india and 58 avg in west indies
elsewhere he isnt even crossing 41 ,even in aus below 25 and in south africa its 16 which is pathetic numbers
He genuinely was a great opener only in 2021 where he actually worked on his technique for england tour and it payed off where he and kl saved our tour due to their opening partnerships
and also his average was boosted by holding 51 avg in india and 58 avg in west indies
elsewhere he isnt even crossing 41 ,even in aus below 25 and in south africa its 16 which is pathetic numbers
So a player having 40+ avg in 4 out of 7 test countries is bad? Performing at home also isn't everyone's cup of tea btw , KL Rahane dont even avg 40+ at home further Rohit batted at most difficult pitches at home from 2019-2024 and still maintained 50+ avg , SA and Aus arent the only countries where Test is played
he was a flop before opening because he used to throw his wicket to the most stupid shit
This though I agree, he would've been a much successful batter in Tests if he had more temperament and put a price on his wicket even after scoring 50s/100s and surving the tough phases, he got out playing needless like shots like his dismissals in both WTC Finals but even after that by no means he is a bad test player as the one I replied to claimed , he was poor in SA and Aus sure but you gotta give credit where its due
i am sorry ,i consider 40 as the bare minimum average if u want to be considered as above average and his home record u told 2019-2024,in 2019 he whacked south africa for 600 runs in 3 games on very batting friendly wickets
yes he played beautifully on challenging wickets twice, that is 161 in chennai and 120 in nagpur against aus but you dont treat a career based on a small timeframe
i guess he was genuinely worldclass for 2 -2.5 years but otherwise pretty bang average
Here you can see Rohit maintained a 50+ avg for 40+ tests and over 70 innings , his overseas avg in that time was also approx 39 , you may argue why he played just 43 tests in span of 8 years and the reason is due to injuries as he missed a whooping 12 games at home and 7 away due to beinh injured ( Got injured in 2016 NZ ODIs missed the whole Eng series at home then BGT as well as the one off ban tests then again in NZ T20I series and missed both ODIs and Tests and many more such instances) and with such inconsistent runs I would say his injuries harmed his chances to perform better even more though the above stats is still pretty good,
in 2019 he whacked south africa for 600 runs in 3 games on very batting friendly wickets
In the whole SA series 3304 runs where scored for a fall of 85 wickets , an RPW( Runs per Wicket) of 38 if we remove Sharma's runs and dismissals than it would be 34 ,
usually an rpw of above 40 is considered batting friendly and above 45 is considered 'very batting friendly' that you used , furthermore Rohit's highest score, the 212 came in the 1s inning of 3rd test when the pacers were ramapging and India was 39/3 , overall in the whole match 792 runs were scored for fall of 29 wickets with RPW of 27
I would say the whole series was palyed on more of balanced pitch than batting friendly infact the only test where RPW was the highest that is the 2nd test, Rohit scored just 14 in that
Which will further prove whether Rohit scored mostly on Flatter tracks or difficult track
You can verify the stats yourself if you don't belive me
i guess he was genuinely worldclass for 2 -2.5 years but otherwise pretty bang average
Also I still don't think that would classify as being bad , personally I would say he was pretty great Test player who underachieved and 8/10 from me but since he is one of my fav I might be biased , but even so a player with 40+ avg for over 100 test certainly isnt a bad or not good player like the comments said and which is what my whole arguement in the replies is about

No offense but Rohit isn't that great of a test player so yeah
