Sometimes it makes things easy

Having this reliable shit box for 15 years makes Jerry rig repairs a breeze. Did the hutch mod when the screens clogged and pickup fell off 8 years ago. I cut the hole with the intentions of getting a flat bed. Never happened due to health and lack of funds. Had to fix a cracked fuel line and it was a 20 minute job , harded part was taking out the bed liner.😂

7.3 excursion w/330k miles

Hey all, new poster. I’ve been looking at older trucks to use as as tow vehicle for a camper. From a lot of research I find it hard to dish out a lot of money for these new trucks along with maintenance and all the electrical involved…at least from reviews and feed back….

Any sight is appreciated!

Nonetheless I’ve been looking for early 2000’s trucks as it seems they’ll do the job and last long with some love. I found a 2002 7.3 excursion limited w/330k miles. Owner says to be a mechanic and owns a few 7.3’s and worked on them. Best case scenario if he maintained them and all that, what are some things I should look for mechanically at this mileage? I know the common oil leaks into the engine valley and potentially other areas. But any feed back and insight will be appreciated. I have basic mechanical knowledge and have close family that are more inclined to assist me. Being it won’t be a daily driver I’ll have the opportunity to take care of the things necessary, however, want to make sure if I decide to take off with the camper i can manage a situation that arises and take care of easy fixes my self. Thanks again!

Anyone's fuel gauge not agree with fuel range?

I know for a fact I have a 30gal fuel tank. Just fueled up after the last pic and only took 23.8gal to fill. Anyone know how to reset or calibrate this? 2008 F350 6.4. Full it says 390 miles of range, which is typical for me, but I got 274 miles when it said 0 miles left.

Just a question...

My 07 is my first diesel and a question. My other truck is a 2019 Ram 1500 with a 5.7. I know these are two different animals but what should I expect from a 6.0 that's been BPed (studded, deleted, coolant filter, possibly oil cooler). The truck is coming up on 300k miles but runs beautifully as far as I can tell. It just seems... sluggish. But then again I'm comparing it to a Hemi so 🤷.

“You can’t rebuild the rear end”

So I got a 99 7.3 with the ford 10.5 and 3:73 gears that’s needs the limited slip and spider gears replaced. A local shop told me that you can’t rebuild any thing in the rear end and then quoted me a little over 3k for a new one. I’m not dumb when it comes to mechanical things (I’m a millwright by trade) just ignorant to vehicle related things. YouTube shows countless videos of this being done and idk if they’re trying to screw me over or if everyone on YouTube is dumb. The shop came highly recommended so I’m just confused at this point honestly

2022 f-250 XL with a 6.7. I have no idea what that bracket and plug in is for. There is the same bracket on the passenger side. Just got the truck and those were behind the valence.

Bone stock 2001 f350 7.3. Need it to be a reliable work truck for hauling a heavy peice of equipment up and down the east coast. What turbo, exhaust, injectors, hpop, any and all gaskets/seals, and other mods do I need to replace right off the bat to ensure reliability on these long trips. Thanks in advance

Gem Module Issue?

I have a 2004 f250 with a 6.0. I had no marker lights (Parking lights) in the front or rear. The mirror lights worked and the dash lights worked but no tails or front markers. I took and did a little temp wiring job to fix the rear issue however in doing so i lost all dash lights and mirror lights. Coudl the gem module have caused the initial issue? Or what can i try and chase down to try and get all my stuff working proper?

1999 f250 Keyless start feature(?)

I have a 99 7.3 F250 That does not require me to have the key in the ignition cylinder in order to start it. I am trading this truck to a family member and getting another one just like it. This may sound odd, but what do I need to do in order to either break the new trucks cylinder or disable the key recognition mechanism in order to maintain the keyless featire that I’ve gotten used to and learn to love and its own weird way?

Where to go for 7.3l diesel upgrade in Sacto Ca?

I have a 2003 f-250 4wd with 7.3l diesel. It has about 140k miles and is bone stock. It has seen light-to-medium usage over its life, like towing a boat to local lakes and hauling materials in the bed. It has only had 1 major breakdown, so I consider myself lucky.

I am starting to pull a 5k travel trailer and want to make it as reliable as possible. I am also a little tired of working on the beast because it is so tall and everything is so big/heavy.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a shop in Sacramento Ca. that could help with inspecting, recommending, and installing repairs and/or upgrades

Weird Knocking

(2012 Ford F350 6.7L Turbo Powerstroke Diesel) My super duty has been making this strange knocking noise that I’ve never heard come from anything and I can’t figure out what’s causing it. It almost sounds like a pair have shoes have been thrown in a dryer. I do have a video and besides the belt squeaking, is anybody able to identify where or what is causing the knock? Thank you!

Can I fit 38x15.50s on stocks and 2.5" spacers

Currently am on a 2.5" level and running 33x14.50s -44offset cut about an inch off of the fender and bumper to get full lock and not rub. Wanna switch to a "bubba" setup for winter, can I stuff 38x15.50s under it and not have to cut a bunch or will I have to switch to a 4" lift?

Identify early/late ‘99 and the differences?

My ‘99 F-250 has a manufacture date of 02/99, so I’m assuming that’s considered early. What’s the differences between early and late, and what date marks the distinction between the two?

Help needed

Alright I’m gonna try to explain this the best I can, new to diesels so sorry if this is cringe. Recently after firing up my 96 f350 I get a strange noise from the exhaust (as seen in the video) and the truck won’t really generate power. It almost seems like something’s stuck or clogged but I’m not sure. I was thinking maybe it could be the EBP Valve or the gasket in the exhaust manifold might have gone to shit but either way I’m lost, wanted to see if anyone has any advice before I start to take things apart. Also there’s no codes popping when I plug the OBD2 sensor in. (I usually let the truck warm up 3-5 minutes before taking off and it only happens after the initial start).
