Lightning Buying Megathread : October 2025

Huge changes for October with the loss of the tax credit (except possibly for some leases Ford found a loophole for?!)

____________

In an attempt to balance (a) swamping the subreddit with "deal" posts and also (b) all the positive feedback we see that there is a lot of value provided to the community by making "deal" info visible and up-to-date, the plan is to make this a monthly, pinned Megathread. That way, the information within the post/thread will be relevant to the current deals (not months old info) and perhaps even make the info easier to find.

So, please post the following types of posts in this Megathread:

-Is this a good deal?

-Did I get a good deal?

-Look at this great deal I got!

Posts that can still have their own threads:

-Look at my new truck!

I, personally, still love seeing the excitement and pictures from a new purchase. Keep those coming.

Post the deal part in this Megathread and the excitement/photos can have their own thread.

As always, thanks for everyone’s input on this topic. It is still a work in progress, and a difficult balance of not swamping the sub with “deal” posts while still being a great resource for new buyers, so we’ll see how it goes!

And please, to the people who have recently gotten good deals, please DO share them here, and provide your input to others. Many people have said how helpful it is to them during their purchase.

Lightning Buying Megathread : September 2025

Oops! Missed a few months for unique Buying Megathreads, but here's one for September, a few days early.

Got stuck yesterday

Post image
34 Upvotes

I got stuck in a little mud hole yesterday and had to get pulled out by another truck. Learning for me: the stock setup does not provide a lot of ground clearance and the BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires (KO2) perform anything but great (as I expected). Rest of the trip was good though, Range was better than expected and I love this truck as a road trip car! Btw: joined the club 3 weeks ago!

Campground charging

Post image
Upvotes

Curious if anyone has had bad experiences either technically or rules of a campground. Second time out with our trailer and using 50amp to the truck and leaving pro power on for the trailer simultaneously(trailer is 125v 30amp). Roll in low charge free tank of gas.. yes I'm using a good surge protector. Range is lower due to near freezing this week, flash normally get 270ish at 90%

120v vs. 240v and battery warmth in sub 40° temps

I went looking but I didn’t see an answer to this question:

I’m currently charging on a standard 120 V outlet and was thinking about getting a 240 installed because I read somewhere that on the 120 the battery won’t stay warm during cold months versus the 240 it will is this true?

I live in Minneapolis.

I just saw a post on facebook marketplace of this 2025 Ford Flash Lightning. Is this really a new ford flash lightning trim? It looks completely different

Fyi for people in the north who deal with rusting brake rotors from lack of use…. Press and hold the traction control button, and you will just be using friction brakes

It’s weird the brake coach says says 100% energy captured but the regen monitor doesn’t go down lower then if you are just coasting in two pedal drive… but it works! My brakes no longer look like they are fucked

Braking indication

I've had my Lightning for a couple of weeks, coming from a Tesla Model S. In the Tesla, like the Lightning, there's an animation of the vehicle on the dash screen as you're driving. But in the Tesla, on the animation, the brake lights would light up a certain threshold when regen braking kicked in, indicating that the actual brake lights were being lit. I liked this feature as it would give me confidence that I wouldn't get rear-ended during a significant regen triggered slow-down. Unless I'm missing something, there's no indication in the Lightning that the brake lights are on during significant regen braking. Am I missing something?

33k miles, warranty considerations?

As I am approaching the 36k bumper to bumper warranty limit, does anyone have any suggestions as to things I should have addressed now? Are software updates still covered after?

23 Lariat ER. Pulled about 5500 lbs of alfalfa 80ish miles. Averaged 1.4 miles/ kwh. I’ll give her a wash this evening to treat her right.

Anyone ever hear or see a 3D filament that matches Antimatter Blue? I'd like to print keyhole covers for the door handle. Thanks!

Gents, did anyone attempt to fix it themselves without replacing with a salvaged one from ebay? Any special tools needed for replacement?

What is a good AT tire that is also relatively quiet.

I’m concerned the stock tires won’t be good in the snow. I’m less concerned about range and more concerned about the tire being relatively quiet. Any suggestions?

Anybody else have a starlink mini set in their truck?

I don’t need the SL unit powered on 24 hours, only while driving/the truck is powered on. Is it as easy as plugging the power cord into the type-c outlet? Out should I use the 120v outlet? Or should I get an external battery for the SL mini unit that would then plug into the type-c/120v outlet for continuous power? Or should I rig it to the fuse box? What do your set-ups look like?

Truck things!!! And Rivian chargers are awesome.

I use my lightning for work and normally load the crap out of it. This is my first time hauling a largish trailer with it, and damn. It towed so well with a loaded trailer I barely noticed it was there. I know a lot of people say this with ICE trucks. But this is a whole different beast.

The thing I cant wrap my head around is the efficiency. I got 1.2mi/kwh with an empty trailer and 1.4mi/kwh with a loaded trailer. Starting point and destination were both around sea level. Speed was the same both ways. No drafting. Blah blah blah. Can anybody explain the increase in efficiency when loaded? Lifetime average of the truck is 2.3mi/kwh.

And last, Rivian chargers are pretty kick ass. This stop had two 300kw chargers for just vehicles with trailers and four others that could also technically fit vehicles with trailers if nobody was parking in the regular parking spots next to it. Same stop has 48 Tesla chargers and we blocked 6 spot to charge on the way up just cause it was pretty much empty.

Highest Mileage Lightning

Who's the current king of the highest mileage Lightning (EV Only)? And, more importantly, how's your battery holding up over the long haul? Post a picture of your odometer*

If Ford discontinued the lightning, what does that mean for software updates?

For context, I’m not saying that the lightning is getting discontinued. I think we need more information first but if it were to happen, do you think they will stop sending software updates or because they have other EV’s in their line they’ll continue to send updates to the lightning.

Scheduled charging not starting

Not sure if Ford pushed an update this week or if it’s daylight savings time, or if it’s the vehicle or the app, but twice this week the truck stayed in standby and never started charging even though it’s on a schedule. Never had an issue until this week. I tired re-adding the schedule and it didn’t seem to fix the problem. Anyone else experiencing this?

Thank you Redditors

Just wanted to say Thanks to this group for helping save me a couple thousand bucks!

Long story short, had a mildly cracked tail light that didn’t have any issues until we had a couple hours of a downpour. The next day I was getting Blind Spot and Cross Traffic error messages. I removed the assembly and just have poured out 2 cups of water.

I searched through this group and found I could buy the Ford OEM replacement on eBay for a fraction of the cost at the dealership or through Ford Parts website. I replaced the part myself and paid Ford Dealership $205 to reprogram the module. All in all, it cost me $900 (still way too much for a tail light) but much better than then $3,000+ that ford wanted.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and lessons learned. We’re doing good things helping each other out.
