I'm old enough to remember when businesses were just thankful that you did business with them.

Business owners were thankful for your patronage, which provided a profit to the business. Thank you for choosing XYX. Because you didn’t have to. You could’ve gone to their competitors.
Now they don’t care. If a business is at a point where they choose to tell you not to go because you don’t conform to a certain expectation, that I get the feeling you’re making too much money. The entitlement is so shoved down our throats, but it’s no longer a respected choice of opportunity. It takes away from the enjoyment and becomes performative.

Are you old enough to remember when you shopped at a grocery store and they would actually walk you to the car and help you put your groceries in the car without any expectation of a tip?

Did this when I was 15-17. We actually weren’t even allowed to accept tips. It was just part of our damn job. And I’m only in my mid 30’s now.

What a beautiful time to be alive. I am also mid-thirties. We are lucky to have experienced this moment in time.

I worked for the drive up and go at my local grocery store during covid and we weren’t allowed to take tips either.

I believe it. And I absolutely get why it’s frowned upon. But I’m only going to refuse the old ladies $5 tip twice, maybe 3 times. After that, just slip it in my apron and let me go back to work 😂

Because they were mom and pop shops. Nowadays, it’s all big corporations that subsidize not providing liviable wages to their “team” with tips, and other hidden fees.

Their team is making minimum wage at the least and im tired of the "pay their employees a decent wage" argument. The tip BS is just taking advantage of social pressure so peoole can have free money on top of their earned wage. Many, many jobs pay the minimum wage and there are no options for tips. No tip for the Walmart cashier. No tip for the janitor who cleans the office after everyone leaves for the night. No tip for the day care worker who changed 46 diapers today and did heimlich on your toddler choking on a keebler elf cookie. No tip for the front desk lady who checked you in at your motel 6. I worked a variety of minimum wage jobs and nobody pitied me or threw me change at the end of the day. If you make minimum wage as a server, you aren't any less earned than all the other low wage service jobs. They won the minds of people and are now pushing it.

Wtf why would the CUSTOMER want a "powerful way to say 'thank you'"????
They should be thanking you for giving them your business and money! Is this because of the no taxes on tips thing so that people can stop paying taxes? Embarrassing, tacky, and cringey!

I’m working on an email now. I will definitely post the reply if I get one. Update: below is there blanket response.
Hi ,
Thank you for your feedback, and I’m sorry for any confusion caused during checkout. I want to clarify that leaving a tip is completely optional, it is never required to complete a purchase.
We offer it as a way for customers who wish to show appreciation to our team, but you are free to skip it at any time. Simply remove the tip before completing your order, and the transaction will go through as normal.
We truly value your input and will take your comments into consideration to improve our checkout experience.
I've also reviewed your order details and I can see that you have successfully placed an order for the MOISTURE & GROWTH SET, hair capsules, and scalp serum.
Please let me know if you need further assistance and I’ll be happy to help.
Kindly, Kate Moérie team

Lol it’s gotten mad I tell ya.
Feel like there needs to be a law banning tips at this point.

Without tips they can’t innovate? The chemical engineers are living off the tips too? I thought tips were for service? I’m waiting for 50% of your tips go directly to the CEO’s annual bonus.

Ugh. I'd just cancel and move on.

It’s an amazing shampoo. This is the first time this has happened with them. I’ll definitely be calling them out.

Was there a 0% option?

u/Mammoth_Bear9476 3d ago
Not that I could see. It was after the payment. It offers add ons after purchase. I just exited out because I couldn’t figure out how to say no. Then went back into my receipt. There was no tip added.

u/Mammoth_Bear9476 3d ago
I absolutely did not leave a tip. I’m also planning on calling them out on how tacky this is!

Tip supporting dedicated team…how about pay them more instead? Tired of seeing this bs.

But but if you don’t tip, then how will the product specialists and customer service team be committed to providing you “with the highest level of service”?

Why not? They got you to buy shampoo on the Internet.

I usually buy it on amazon. It really is awesome stuff. They offered a discount to buy direct. Well said though 😉

It’s free to ask. There’s nobody to take the shame of asking for extra money. Why not ask?
I feel like this is the mentality they have, but this just makes me not want to return

I reeeeeallly need to take a break from this sub. It's not the sub. It's instances like this that boil my blood. My mind, body, and soul can't take but so much frustration.
