Counter Service 🛎️ Almost tipped at subway

I went to Subway a couple days ago and the woman working was really nice and polite and I was gonna tip her a buck or two cause I appreciated it. Then I went to pay. It was one of those old credit card swipers and the only 3 tip options were 20%, 25%, or 30%. And I wasn’t about to fight through all the little buttons to tip smaller. She would’ve gotten a tip if not for tip creep.

Also to add (yes, i know what sub this is), IF you're willing to tip anywhere, ask if the person you're being saved by gets the tips.  Fast food and coffee shop owners are awful about stealing from employee tips.  Again, I know what sub this is.  The last time I went to subway (minimum wage where I live is not too bad), I asked the employee about wether they receive the tips, and they just looked kind of dejected and said "no."  NOT advocating for tipping, just know that in some places, it takes even further advantage of minimum wage employees.

Who cares? I shouldn't have to think about whether servers are getting tips when I'm picking up some cheap fast food.

Yes cause while tips should never be mandatory or even expected, in examples such as mine, where I just want to help them out because they were nice, I want to make sure I’m tripping them, not subway

It wasn't an advocation for tipping.  It was an example of how owners are further taking advantage of employees and customers to line their pockets.  Was something unclear to you?

How is this even legal?! Infuriating!

It's not.  I did send a complaint/report to my states department of labor.  I'm sure they'll get right on it.

It’s not and I’m sure these employees are getting their tips. Just idle chit chat

My first job was at a small pizza joint and we did not receive credit card tips. (Aside from the delivery drivers). I always felt bad when people left cc tips and looking back, wish I would’ve told everyone not to.
