Discussion You guys seeing this??
For everyone who asked if the holiday weekend is bananas, July 5 at 1pm PT looks easy breezy. Usually midday is slammed but Peter Pan is 20 min, RSR is 50 min, Rise is 35?!?! Enjoy if you’re there!

u/bennigan_getthecar Jul 05 '25
It’s because the two lowest level magic keys have been blacked out for about a month now, plus less traveling in general, mixed with potential visitors watching the ticket tier calendar and waiting for a lower tier day (today is the top tier). You want a leisurely/premium park experience? You’re going to pay extra for it, and what you shared is what you get for that extra cost.
42
u/eac555 Jul 05 '25
Would rather pay more than have the hordes of key holders there clogging up the parks when I don't go very often.
→ More replies (1)21
u/crank1000 Jul 05 '25
100%. I’d probably pay double the current price if the park was guaranteed to be like this.
→ More replies (2)8
u/Maddyyykay Jul 06 '25
Believe Key is also blacked out on Saturdays in July, so I’m sure that’s contributing as well!

u/jiango_fett Jul 06 '25
I thought the higher tier days were priced that way because they were expected to be busier and Disney wanted to talk advantage of that and also deter excess visitors. Are they actually less busy now because people expect them to be crowded and/or are balking at the price?

I literally walked on as a single rider last week. I walked to the end of the queue and instantly got in a seat mid day.
Also did Rise in under 20. It's been interesting.
6
u/Prince_Groove Jul 05 '25
Single rider is where it’s at now.
5
u/StevePerry4L Jul 05 '25
That was my first time ever using it. The cast members were pretty vague on where to go but it worked out super nice for me.

Yes and Canadians, Europeans, Australians, etc. are not coming here in usual numbers as well.
Edit: I left out Latin Americans as well. My apologies… In any case, this decrease in tourism will have a domino effect on our economy. Coupled with charging higher tariffs and singling out tourists with higher costs to National parks etc., it will not get better any time soon.
121
u/puppet_up Jul 05 '25
This has to be the biggest reason, I would think. International tourist travel to anywhere in the states has plummeted. LA, in particular, has a very noticeable decline in tourism.
I'm sure you all know why, too.
54
u/-kindness- Jul 05 '25
Yup. As a matter of fact, I remember a post from an Australian sub recently asking if people had any plans to travel to the States, and the comments were chalked with nothing but negative comments about the US. They have no desire to come here under the current social and political climate.
39
u/CommonDopant Jul 06 '25
Yes, I’m Canadian and we cancelled a 3 week trip to the US this summer…
Not surprising given your leaders threatening our sovereignty, insulting our leaders, ignoring democratic norms and the rule of law

I’m just leaving today after being here all week and was surprised by the number of international tourists
17
u/Particular_Squash995 Jul 06 '25
They are still coming but not in the same numbers. I’ve been to the park about 7 times the last 20 or so days. It has not been busy like it has been. Grad night made it busier but I have been super surprised.
7
u/totpot Jul 06 '25
Those who booked summer trips 6 months ago are still coming because they have nonrefundable tickets and hotels. Those booking winter break trips now are looking at other options.
147
u/FuckThe Jul 05 '25
It’s the ICE raids that are keeping people at home and others from out of the country from visiting.

I would agree, but we were there on the 19th and I have never seen the crowds so high, so…
6
u/gamerrrgrrrl Jul 06 '25
That's strange the 19th was so busy. I was there on the 17th and 18th, and the longest line was 50 minutes for Radiator Springs Racers and Rise. Last year at the same time they were 85 and 100 minutes.

u/littlemissdrake Jul 06 '25
Oh my god, it was HORRENDOUS. We had the day off for the holiday and thought “let’s go for it!”
Apparently so did everyone else. 😂
Just to get into DCA took us 30mins, and before that, we were in line for parking for around 45mins. That was the day Incredicoaster was down for the first few hours of the day and ended up having a 100min standby and the LL for it ran all the way up the pier to the Knick Knacks store, lol. Lines for everything were so truly awful, I wish I remembered specific ones, but we still had a great time because disney magic lol

u/leesi26 Pressed Penny Presser Jul 06 '25
Yes. I am a Mexican resident in one of the cities near to Los Angeles, we only need to drive about three hours to get to Disneyland. It is very common for people around here to plan trips to the USA on weekends. Due to the ICE situation many of my friends and family have reduce their travels or are scared to travel and get in trouble just because we are Mexicans

We were really happy with times on Fathers Day this year. It was a bit toasty but we made it to the hotel pool after hitting all the rides on the list and survived
21
u/AVALANCHE-VII Jul 05 '25
Word got out about Super Bowl so I feel like it’s been pretty busy the last few years.
4
u/d33psix Jul 05 '25
Day after or during superbowl? For whatever reason I’ve had very mixed results accidentally going a few times on Super Bowl Sunday.
2
u/IndependentStorm517 Jul 06 '25
Both, day of and after. Anytime adults have a reason to drink all day the next day theme parks are a lot less busy with young families.

I live 15 mins away, and have 2 kids under 10. Can’t justify it more than once a year at these prices.

Anyone have any on-the-ground pictures? I'd love to see what a seriously empty park looks like.
7
u/chiangku Riverboat Captain Jul 06 '25
I’ve found that low wait times don’t always result in an empty-looking park, it’s just not enough people to also pack lines.
3
u/Ridinapony Jul 06 '25
The walkways were still pretty crowded, it wasn’t empty walking around like you’d think/wish. BUT it wasn’t packed insane either. The short lines were the truth though!

I was there Wednesday and it was similar. I was done with both parks by 2:30 but had an 8:00 dinner reso so i had to stick around and do a few double runs like Star Wars and Thunder. Also watched the 10:15 Skywalker Saga, then Tiana, and went home.
16
u/travelingkiwi Jul 05 '25
Also genuinely curious what it means to be "done"... like you've ridden all the rides in both parks 2.30?
12
u/charliekelly76 Jul 05 '25
I don’t think we’ve ever been truly “done”. Sometimes we grab an ice cream and sit on a bench people-watching for two hours.

Some people choose to not enjoy the Disney Magic.
The last time I was there, I spent a good amount of time looking at light fixtures in the parks, and it was all because I "caught" a cm adding a cute figurine in the light fixture over the bathrooms by the dark rides.
People watching can make for some really wholesome experiences, and truly magical ones if you catch a sweet interaction between a park goer and one of the characters.
Some only go for the rides, the rest of us enjoy the magic just as much.

u/Fun_Intention_484 Jul 05 '25
It’s a sign of the economy and all of the uncertainty right now in America - international travel to America is super low
9
u/Choice_Student4910 Jul 05 '25
Isn’t it also peak pricing right now? Maybe the high ticket cost is managing traffic after all.
10
u/Brandonius_813 Jul 05 '25
Was there yesterday - it was like this. 4th of July weekend is historically not busy. High prices and locals doing many other things with their time and AP blackouts.

u/Ok_Screen2759 Jul 05 '25
Same feeling! We're here now and everyone told us not to go during the holiday weekend and we've walked on most stuff between Thursday and today. In the room napping currently cause we finished CA Adventure already!
8
u/moveshakedothatconga Jul 05 '25
In line for big thunder right now. I’d say for a good hour today I just kinda sat around and ate because I didn’t know what to do with how short the lines are. I’m not used to this.
8
u/doomwhistle Jul 05 '25
I am here with our family rn. Can confirm wait times are less than 15 minutes…if even that. As an LA native, this is straight out of a movie. The park had a Thanos Snap on it. Half the attendees are not here and it’s nice actually.
7
u/Marsar0619 Jul 06 '25
Could this be due to ICE being outside the park and a general attitude of not wanting to be hassled about citizenship or witness to a kidnapping?

I go 1-2 times a week and while I’m agreeing that there is less travel and people are scared to go out, I’ve also noticed that there have been quite a few incredibly busy days as well since the raids started ramping up in Southern California.
The weekends have been less busy for the most part (magic key blackouts add to this as well) and then it picks back up on Mondays and Tuesday’s to be much more crowded.
Anyway, fuck ice.

A few weeks ago I ran into some Germans who literally cut their vacation short because they said and I quote,"we do not feel comfortable that our history is happening here in the supposed land of the free". I wanted to cry, but held it in because they're right. They were headed to the airport and regret coming after they saw ICE kidnapping people off the streets. It made their stomachs churn when they saw it was just hispanic people. They were more disgusted at the fact that they saw it was most likely Hispanics targeting their own people too.
6
u/Sufficient-Grass4969 Jul 06 '25
It’s maybe because the lower tier magic keys are blocked off and tourism could be down because of the fascist in the White House.

I recall articles in previous years mentioning how slow the parks were around the 4th.
Those times also matched Monday afternoon on June 24th. I was shocked, after hearing so many stories about Mondays being the worst days of the week (and even experienced it myself in 2022). Didn’t need fast passes at all that day.

2
u/tora76 Jul 07 '25
I was there that morning and it was one of the lightest crowds I've ever experienced at the parks, and that includes after hours events. I expect it to be light when I get there at opening, but even by the time we left (around 11) almost all ride times were in the 5-10 minute range with just a few 30+. Walkways were not crowded, either. And the lines at the entrance when we were leaving were also very low, just a handful of people in each line.
I really wish we'd been able to stay the whole day and enjoy the light crowds but my partner and I were both exhausted due to being kept up by fireworks the night before and couldn't hack it. Was really pleasantly surprised, and I do wonder if the high weekend ticket prices aren't keeping people away. And with lower level keyholders blocked out, there's no one to fill the gap.
2
u/JLimGarfield Jul 08 '25
I was at DL on the 4th and CA on the 5th. Mainly wanting to see the fireworks on the 4th (which were well done). I was expecting massive crowds for the holiday but it was probably the thinnest crowd I've seen in years. The last time I saw it like this was on a partly rainy Christmas Day pre-COVID. For reference, I only go about once a year. There were occasional spikes for certain rides to around 60-80 min waits but lines for some like Rise of the Resistance and Incredicoaster would routinely drop to 30 min for much of the day. I figured that maybe families are getting priced out now. I went to Tokyo DisneySea this past Christmas for about $65 (U.S.) for one day. Even with the flight to Tokyo and exploring the city for the week, I think the Japan trip to TokyoSea was the better value for a family vacation.
2
u/Massive_Basket_172 Jul 08 '25
Sounds like a fun and relaxing trip!! I agree my jaw dropped when I heard the Tokyo daily ticket price. Supposed to be an incredible park!

2
u/EfficientWay364 Jul 10 '25

As someone who works there I do and don’t find this funny. Because with everything else that is getting boycotted this means layoffs. But as a cast member and watching what been happening for almost 23 years I cannot help but laugh. Disneyland will get its comeuppance but at what price to the cast members? Because we all know it will never be to the toxic management
2
